This was an important project to me, because the existing home had been in my family for a long time. This was a complicated project with tight deadlines. Time-frame and speed weren’t the only concern, keeping costs down was also a leading factor for me to even consider building my new home. > Demolition is not an easy. Your homes are beautiful. I have a few questions and really appreciate your time. What is the gray color around the fireplace? Just paint? The light fixtures are wonderful. Where do they come from? The covered deck looks like concrete. Is it? Thanks! A: Hi Jennifer. Thanks for reaching out. The fireplace has a custom concrete over the top of it. We were originally thinking of using steel plates and then also looked at a brushed aluminum panel. A lot of the light fixtures were purchased through restoration hardware. The one over the stairs and the lights over the center island were both purchased through them as well. The deck material is a concrete finish over a solid surface plywood deck. We used a company named RAD concrete. They use a synthetic material which they guarantee. They do excellent work and can make it look like wood, tile, or any other design you can come up with. They call it a "European Oak" 5/8" thick x 7 1/2" wide. **Q: Floors** *(in Photo Questions)* These wood floors are beautiful. Do you mind sharing the details? If they are engineered, do you mind telling the brand and color? Thanks! A: Hi, thanks for writing. They are a European Oak 5/8" x 7 1/2" XRL from Hallmark Hardwoods Engineered Flooring. I have more requests for information on these floors than almost any house I've built. They are beautiful floors. I am using them in a show home now and did a White European Oak on a floor I'll be uploading in a month. It turned out absolutely incredible as well. A: The door was custom made by a shop here locally that is no longer in business. However I'm currently using a shop named KSR doors in Pleasant Grove that does even better work. You can reach the owner of KSR Doors, Kurt, at 801-362-8984. The door measurements side to side are attached on a picture below. 3' 6" door width by 8' tall with 15" wide side light and a 15" transom window built over the top. I had Stock Building Supply and several other door companies, bid the original door at $6800 to $7900. I was able to negotiate this door custom built for just under $4k. Kurt would likely be less than that based on what I typically am charged for similar doors. Please let me know if I can assist you and I'd be happy to make a call on your behalf to line up my pricing with him. He's a wonderful craftsman and does excellent work.
