> Whatever Melissa dreams up for her clients’ cabinets, we can build it! She’s so creative and client focused. The possibilities are endless, from color and door designs to hardware. Her clients are always happy because she does a fabulous job putting everything together. She doesn’t stop until it’s perfect.

> I love doing crafts—mostly quilting and painting—but needed my own dedicated space separate from our family room. Melissa found it in the large mechanical room in our basement. She camouflaged the equipment, repurposed my oak drafting table as the island and designed a J-shaped work counter with plenty of storage. Our next project is a basement kitchenette and workout room. If you have an idea for making your home better, bounce it off Melissa. She’ll find a way to make it happen!

> Terrible - I worked with Melissa on a kitchen remodel the cabinets were not correct and I paid an addition $7,000 to reorder. The doors on the reordered cabinets (delivered 6/2023) do not match the original doors and one of the cabinets does not function properly I have been waiting 9 months for her to order the correct cabinets. It is now 3/2024 and I cannot finish my kitchen and she will not respond to email or phone calls.
> In addition, Melissa did not follow through with promises to review my needs I kept asking for more drawers and she didn't listen. One of the cabinets I am stuck with opens into my face and is extremely awkward - this supposedly to provide access into the corner - which I wouldn't be able to reach unless on a ladder - so terrible functionality. I could go on but suffice it to say don't work with her! Also up-charged on carpet in living room when she said she didn't upcharge so that was extra $2,000 in her pocket. She choose out of town provider so had to pay extra travel costs.

> After Melissa did such a great job remodeling our basement in our old home, we knew she was up for a much larger project. We bought an A-frame, knotty pine lake home that my in-laws built in the early 70's and made it into our retirement home. Melissa was able to translate "contractor speak" so we could always make the right decisions. We added a new master bedroom, bath and walk-in closet, as well as updating the existing kitchen. Melissa always found exactly what I was looking for, whether it was a narrow, triple-bowl kitchen sink or wrought iron lighting to complement the original fixtures. She also found us more storage space than we could have ever imagined, with custom-designed kitchen cabinets and under-the-stairway hidden drawers. Because of her patience and attention to detail, this home honors my in-laws while giving us everything we wanted and needed.

> Most interior designers I work with know a little about cabinetry and leave the rest to us. What impressed me about Melissa, as we worked on a whole house remodel, is that she was involved in all the fine details right from the planning stage. From the kitchen and bath cabinets to the laundry room, office, entertainment center and wet bar, she understood all that goes into cabinetry to assure her client got exactly what they wanted. Melissa is very straightforward and a clear communicator. I highly recommend her.

> I provided all the plumbing fixtures for Melissa’s remodeling project. She transformed a house that was built in the late 1990s into what looks like a period craftsman home from the 1920s. Melissa thought of every detail, from enlarging the doorways and adding oak paneling to the hammered copper cooktop hood and custom bookcases. Melissa was wonderful to work with, always bubbly and upbeat with great ideas.

> It truly was a pleasure to meet Melissa Brunk. After our discussion of the end result that I wanted to achieve in my master bathroom and closet, she brought together fabric samples and ideas to achieve just that! She is very professional and listens to your wishes. I would highly recommend her professionalism and efficiency to get the job done!

**★★★★ — Consumers Lumber, Sept. 2013**

> Melissa ordered an entry door with me. She did her research and knew what she wanted and had all of the information that was needed. She was also personable and professional at the same time.

**★★★★ — 62mexico, Sept. 2013**

> Melissa provided us with some good ideas for our basement remodeling project. Soothing paint colors for the walls and a great flooring product.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Flooring Dilemma** *(in Flooring)*

A: I like this waterproof LVT tile look for 2 reasons:
1.) waterproof & durability for the kitchen
2.) it brings in the warm tones of the oak flooring throughout the rest.of your home but also ties in the whites and grey of the quartz countertop.

**Q: Where can I find these cabinet pulls?** *(in Home Decorating)*

Saw on the studio McGee show Dream Home makeover of Netflix. Dying to find these! I emailed the studio McGee team and they refused to tell.
Do these look familiar to anyone?!
I they they are the same in both pictures, just different angles.
Thanks!!!

A: @jinx has the correct pulls from Rejuvenation

**Q: Am I crazy to put dining room table against one side of the room?** *(in Home Decorating)*

TL;DR - I'm thinking about putting our "formal" dining room table against a bay window with an upholstered bench on that side (photos at bottom of post). Is this a crazy idea?

We are changing our formal living room into a dining room to have more space when we have extra people over for a meal (not so much these days but hopefully someday soon!). The old, smaller dining room space will eventually become an office/reading area and we will get rid of the Queen Anne dining set that was a hand-me-down and is way too formal for us. We recently were given an Ethan Allen Cameron trestle table from family friends who are downsizing to a smaller home. Other than that, the room is basically a blank slate with a bay window on one side and a fireplace on the other (pics below). There is no overhead lighting so I can do nearly anything (limited by one A/C vent). We don't plan to reface the fireplace or anything right now - even though I would like to eventually, the hearth in particular is terrible - but might add a mantle.

As I was looking for x-back chairs to pair with the table, I came across a photo of a room that had a table with an upholstered bench up against a set of windows and thought that it might be good for my room too. I thought that it would help preserve a comfortable walkway in front of the fireplace and prevent the room from feeling too much like a bowling alley. I found a bench at Ethan Allen and some x-back chairs from Canadel (also shown below) that I liked but haven't ordered anything yet.

I went to tackle the rug next and I realized it is going to be virtually impossible to find a stock rug that can both fit all of the chairs when they are pulled out and also be centered under the table without running past the bay window wall. I think I need something along the lines of 7'6" x 12" and a custom sized rug or FLOR tiles (who knew those were so pricey?) is going to be a huge chunk of my modest budget. I had been planning to get an indoor/outdoor polypropylene rug in the $300 range that would be easy to clean and wouldn't be devastating if it did get stained, since we have 3 young kids. This isn't the time to "invest" in a really nice rug. We won't eat meals in this room daily (we have an eat in kitchen) but it will get regular use for board games and puzzles and distance learning.

So now I'm second guessing the whole table against the wall thing even though I think I might really like it if I can pull it off well enough. If I center the table, I don't think I would do the bench and would likely just get 8 of the Canadel chairs. Normally, I would get the furniture and try it both ways but I need to figure our for sure if I am going to do all chairs or chairs/bench before I order.

I also have no idea what to do for other furniture especially since one side of the fireplace is larger than the other. Ideally, it would be built in cabinetry but that's definitely not in the budget now! I think I am going for a transitional look that is simple yet slightly more elegant/elevated than eating in the kitchen.

A: For calculating seating space there should be a minimum of 24" per seat/chair preferably 30" for elbow room.

**Q: Fireplace rehab** *(in Home Decorating)*

I’ve recently purchased my first home! I’m not a designer or decorator but this old fireplace puzzles me. I thought about white washing it but idk how it would turn out. I need ideas on what to do. I don’t want it left red brick. Help!!

Other Info: there Will be an accent wall in the color of a blueish teal to match my new furniture.

A: Congrats on the new home!!

I think you would have a few options. Below is a link to a Pinterest post. The teal accent wall could be the fireplace. You could also white wash it, as pictured, and place either candles or wood to "stage" a fireplace.

https://pin.it/ywpadhodxdoubf

When you do paint the brick, whatever color it ends up being, make sure to properly prep the brick.

**Q: Caesarstone install question concerning edge** *(in Remodeling)*

I'm planning on getting a Caesarstone countertop and figuring out the thickness and edging; one possibility is getting 2cm thick slabs and doing a laminated edge. A couple of questions: 1) If it's a mitered edge, can I choose the thickness, i.e. how thick the countertop will appear? And 2) can I still have a minimal overhang? Not sure if that's the right terminology, but I like the modern look with the countertop almost flush with the cabinetry, and only about 1/4 inch out. Presumably, in this case, the sub-board would have to stop short of the edge of the cabinetry to provide some space for part of the mitered edge to sit??? Just wondering how that would work, and if it would work. Thx.

A: Yes, there is buildup (is what it is called) to raise the countertops so that the 4 cm (2cm top + 2cm laminated edge) is all above or sitting on top of the cabinets and not hanging over the front of the cabinets. The typical overhang is 1 1/4". This is to ensure that the drawers would not get dripped on if anything was on the edge of the countertop. Do you have a inset door style? If you have this style of cabinet you could go with less overhang.

Is it possible to attach a picture?

**Q: Where to put the TV in the living room?** *(in Home Decorating)*

We just bought a house and we have nothing in our living room yet because I can't decide where to put the TV. I want a large U sectional to face the fireplace so I'd like the TV to be along that wall somewhere.

But I don't want the TV to take away from the beauty of the fireplace. What do you think? Thanks so much in advance for your help!

A: Once you post a floor plan I'd be happy to SketchUp a furniture layout to make the best use of your space including: TV viewing, fireplace, walkways and the great windows that you have in the living room.
