Craig came and offered options we had not thought of to maintain the historic look of our home. He was amazing at every step of the way, and even worked with us on getting the variance we needed. And as the side of our house was torn off just prior to COVID, LaDuke was called on to address any number of issues. They did them quickly and with expertise. Always willing to hear our concerns and make changes needed. The project took 3 times longer than expected due to COVID and material shortages, but what an amazing end product. So much so we had them start a 1,000 sq ft deck project that was second to none. Can’t say enough about Craig and his team. Teardown to studs and subfloor with walls removed. > The planning/design phase of our project went well considering we had no idea what exactly we wanted in the end, only knowing we wanted "something special". LaDuke listened to us, gave us ideas and had no problems changing plans multiple times to get make us happy. LaDuke also has a showroom in the office. Here we were able to get ideas, select our materials, and colors while we went through the planning stages. Not having to travel from store to store looking at materials and colors was a plus. We picked out cabinets, ceramic floor & wall tiles, granite, paint and wood planks all right in the showroom. A special thank you to Adrianna at LaDuke, who has a keen sense of style & colors, she guided us in the selection process. > The construction part took longer than we expected. But this was partly due to our fault, changing and adding ideas as we went. LaDuke was always accommodating to these. The Field Superintendent kept us up to date on timing/schedules/costs and returned our phone calls within reasonable times. The LaDuke crew and the sub-contractors were always polite and cleaned up after themselves. The craftsmanship was top notch, could not be better. We decided to hire Craig LaDuke to do the repair work since we had worked with him before when we originally built our home about 20 years ago. At that time he was a Lindal cedar log home dealer and we went through him for all the materials from Lindal and for some of the finish carpentry work. We were just as pleased with this most recent experience with him as we were with our first. Craig, Kirk, and the rest of the crew are very knowledgeable, professional, and polite to work with. They took the time to be sure that all of the soffit materials were cut and stained to match exactly to the original, and the shingles were also an exact match. Everything blended beautifully with the rest of the house. They completed the work in a timely manner and provided us with weekly updates from the time they first came out to assess the damage until the work was all complete. A: It's real however it's machine cut and installed similar to cultured stone. We are distributors and can ship as needed. **Q: Help! I have a volcano in my living room.** *(in Design Dilemma)* My husband and I bought a 70's house a few months ago and are in the process of remodeling the entire home. The only original "character" left in the house now is the massive volcanic rock fireplace. The fireplace is so sturdy and well built, but the rock is over powering. The room is 19'x26' and the ceiling goes from 8' to 12'. What should I do with the fireplace? A: Have you thought about adding a wood ceiling and possibility adding two more beams at each end of the fireplace? I would also add a large mantel and remove the picture.
