> Without a doubt, Tom is an excellent architect. He is most personable, has wonderful listening skills, and knows how to meet his clients' needs with innovative creativity. His ability to sketch out a solution after a few minutes' discussion is remarkable. Tom's designs display classic sensibilities with contemporary functionality. We couldn't be more pleased with our new home!

**Comment from Markalunas Architecture and Design, LLC:**

> We so appreciate the opportunity to have been a part of your home. Thank you for sharing your wonderful compliments and for your support of our work.

> Choosing Tom was the best decision we made in the house-building process. Not only is he one of the nicest guys we have ever known, he is also extremely attentive and brilliant at design.
> He turned the ideas we had into real-life spaces and consistently met and exceeded our high expectations.
> Building a home is a long, stressful process and you are sure to encounter a few bumps along the way. Tom was always a consummate professional - he somehow managed to disarm the couple firey phone calls I sent his way, resolve the issue, and bring the project back on track. Having someone so knowledgeable and steady to go through this process with is an incredible asset.
> We have already recommended him to friends and strangers alike and would not hesitate to do so again.

**Comment from Markalunas Architecture and Design, LLC:**

> Thank you so much for the kind words posted to HOUZZ. We have truly enjoyed being a part of your vision, and we could not be happier with the outcome.

> Bevolo has worked with The Markalunas Architecture Group on custom residential design projects. Tom and his talented staff work to cater to the needs of their clients and continue to create new and standout homes in Colorado and South Carolina. We look forward to more projects to come. Thanks! The Bevolo Team

**Comment from Markalunas Architecture and Design, LLC:**

> My husband and I were quite hesitant about building a home. We knew it would be a long and difficult process. Then we met Tom. We can't describe what an outstanding and pleasant experience it was from the beginning stages until the exquisite moment when he handed us the key to our beautiful new home. He is talented beyond words and we are privileged to say he became a friend along the way.

**Comment from Markalunas Architecture and Design, LLC:**

> Thank you so much for the incredibly kind sentiment. We feel equally privileged to have been a part of your wonderful home.

> We bought a 1700 sq ft 1940s cottage and hired MAG to design our expansion. The initial plans included a stunning addition, a rearranged existing floorpan, and completion of existing attic and basement spaces. When we went to pull the permits, the city "discovered" an undocumented sewer line that limited any expansion of the existing footprint. Tom Markalunas essentially had to start over and create something that was nothing like what we had originally envisioned, but he managed to do it quickly and with the functionality and spaces we desired. During the building process, the MAG remained in close contact with us and our builder and continued to provide spot on recommendations on interior designs as well. The Markalunas Architecture Group was responsive, creative, professional and designed a fantastic and beautiful space that we love.

> Tom is a pleasure to work with and so talented! We really enjoyed the process of designing our home with him. He has unique ideas and knew exactly how to implement the ideas we had. We are so appreciative of his hard work on designing our home!

> Tom Markalunas is, without a doubt, an architectural genius. I met Tom three years ago shortly after we bought our lot on Lake Keowee. Over a two year period, we interviewed about six builder/architect firms, but none impressed us more than Tom. We selected Tom and his builder partner, Matt Vogt, to design and build our residence. Not only is Tom is a consummate architectural professional, he also really does place himself in his client's shoes and looks at every issue from both perspectives. Tom has an amazing capacity to take verbal ideas and rapidly translate to them onto paper so we could fine tune the ideas on the fly and then immediately see the results. Tom's ability for balancing the relationship of size, shape, angle, perspective, and color is one of his many strengths. Tom's experience in designing mountain homes in Colorado really paid dividends as he shaped the design of our mountain/lake house. It is without hesitation that I recommend Tom Markalunas for any architectural/design project.

> We have worked closely with Tom for over two years as we designed and built our retirement home in The Cliffs at Keowee Springs. The entire project was a delightful experience for us. We've built 7 other houses and we quickly recognized how creative Tom was during the design process. And during the construction project he continued to be a source of creative ideas. The result is that we have a terrific home, that's both comfortable to live in and very functional. Tom gets the a lot of the credit. We highly recommend him and will be happy to chat with any prospective clients about his skills.

> Tom Markalunas marries a wealth of experience with an open mind and creativity -- and a keen ability to actively listen -- to translate your vision for a customized home into reality. On a personal level, Tom and his team are attentive and responsive, and they work hard to exceed expectations (for example, with respect to overall design as well as details of design and construction, and coming in on budget and with high-quality construction). We live a long distance from where Tom and his team designed and constructed our new vacation home, and he managed the process in a fashion that gave us detailed information and confidence.
> We highly recommend Tom and his team.

## Community Q&A

**Q: what color are walls** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Trim is SW7531 Canvas Tan. The walls are poplar shiplap painted with a wash of diluted (25%) SW7531 Canvas Tan.

**Q: kitchen pendant lanterns where to find** *(in Photo Questions)*

How do I get something like this

A: I think they came from Resptration Hardware...but they were provided by the interior designer so I am not sure. Might also try Lantern and Scroll.

**Q: What is the shutter color?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I'd like to know the color of the shutters in this photo. We are building a home in Texas and we have been using this house as a guide for our colors.

A: These are stained shitters, so the wood is Sapele (similar to Mahogany), and the stain was, I think, a custom blend. I would try Minwax colors...start with Provincial (lighter) and maybe try Special Walnut, Dark Walnut...can blend to suit.

**Q: Beautiful Home and fantastic choice of colors!** *(in Photo Questions)*

I'm very curious about the color of your windows/doors and handles in this photo. Is it dark bronze with black hardware? Thank you for taking time to answer my questions!

A: The door hardware is Oil Rubbed Bronze (very dark bronze color).

**Q: Love the chandelier!!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love this chandelier! Been looking a longtime. Where is it from?

A: I apologize, but I do not have the source for that fixture.

**Q: ceiling wood and stain** *(in Photo Questions)*

What type of wood is the ceiling? And what type of stain?

A: It's been a minute, but I seem to recall the ceiling as being clear fir, 1x6 tongue and groove with Sherwin Williams "Fruitwood" semi-transparent stain.
