His company completed a major remodel for us in 2007 - pretty much going to the studs ( a few hundred thousand $$) on an Eichler in Palo Alto. Since then he has completed several smaller jobs. He and his crew are conscientious, on time, on budget, organized and amazing at keeping the site clean. Scott communicates promptly. The quality of his work is topnotch. It is clear that we value him highly since we keep hiring him for projects. We had weekly meetings to discuss the ongoing progress and any issues that might have come up. If urgent items came up outside of this meeting, he would call us or email depending on importance. He also responded quickly when we had questions of him. Our project was a bit different in that it had steel posts (vs. wood), steel railings and tiled decking. Scott had access to the right subs when needed and made sure they did the job to our satisfaction. He made our long envisioned project a reality. Would highly recommend him. His crew went above and beyond in working round the clock to move us back into our house and meeting an agreed upon deadline- even though circumstances had changed that could have justified further delay. His costs are fair and he patiently explains billing inquiries and corrects any errors. We actually hired Scott and Scot twice- once for an initial bedroom/bathroom remodel and again for a much larger complete house renovation. With the help of experienced Eichler remodeling professionals like contractor Scott Flegel, our Eichler was upgraded while still staying true to the mid-century modern Eichler spirit. He brought the aesthetic back to 1964, but upgraded the structure to 2014. Scott has a fantastic attitude, great professionalism and communication, and the single-most organized, efficient, and deadline-oriented construction team I have ever heard of. Plus, they're REALLY nice - the entire team, the office staff, and even their subcontractors. We would absolutely love to work with them again in the future. > This Eichler was a "full gut" restore/rescue: the house, which was previously inhabited by 12+/- people as a halfway house, and had endured tragic and significant abuse. The wear & tear was horrifying: mystery stains on the ceiling panels; mismatched lighting & paint; grungy carpet; gouged, sloppily patched & horribly stained mahogany walls; chipped & cracked tiles; rusty fixtures; countless fire hazards and exposed wires, etc. 100% of the windows needed to be replaced with double-paned tempered glass, and 100% of the electrical system & wiring needed to be replaced. The configuration of the bathrooms, hall closet & laundry was awkward and impractical, but the bones of the house were good, as were the original copper-pipes of the radiant heating system, though the boiler system did get upgraded to a compact combo unit, controllable with a modern "Nest" thermostat. Some of the bathroom/laundry room & hallway space had to be reconfigured, inserting a half bathroom into the previously inefficient configuration of this area of the house. The kitchen was in sad shape and had to be completely rebuilt with modern Ikea cabinetry, 100% of which Flegel installed and customized. The kitchen island was a challenge because of complications in switching the placement of the appliances and water lines to a safer and more user-friendly configuration, but Flegel managed with a smile and impressive results. The dining room was dark & depressing...by replacing an expanse of dining room wall to the outside with a wall of floor-to-ceiling glass, then removing the wall separating the dining room and living rooms, the space was subsequently flooded with natural light and openness, drastically improving the connection with the greenery outdoors. Flegel had the added challenge of a rotting wood & untempered glass front wall of the atrium...it was so unstable it had to be rebuilt, but he was able to move the wall a few feet towards the street, tying it in with an existing structural beam, lending added stability to the new glass wall and front door configuration. This led to an expansion in square footage for the already ample atrium space. The entire property is now one seamless, flawless, zen feast for the eyes. The entire renovation from the initial meeting to move-in date and the close of the "punch list" was 10 months.
