> We initially contacted Paint Power to do a kitchen countertop repair. We spoke with Mila and she got us on the schedule. Brando came to our home as promised, when he was scheduled to do so. He was professional and courteous. Brando answered all of our questions and took his time with us. Brando worked with our budget and we ended up reviewing other home improvement projects. The crew was a pleasure to work with. Matthew was skilled at his work. The crew cleaned up everyday after completion of the work. We are extremely satisfied with the quality of the work and finished project. We can’t wait to have them back to complete more projects. Thank you Paint Power!

> Paint Power did an exceptional job renovating my kitchen and replacing the flooring in my kitchen, dining room and living room. Brando, Mila and their crew were professional, talented and conscientious. Brando did an outstanding job helping me with the scope of work and selection of materials, colors, etc. All materials and appliances arrived without delay. The crew could not have been more accommodating and took great pride in their workmanship. My new kitchen totally exceeded my expectations. It is absolutely gorgeous!! It is my absolute pleasure to recommend Paint Power to friends and family for future renovations.

> Brando, Mila and their team are top-notch pros and we have used them twice and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Great, responsive crew that are skilled in what they do.

> These guys are fantastic! We have
> used them for two projects in our brownstone, most recently this October. They’re super honest, great communicators and the work quality is excellent. They’ve done painting, tile work and carpentry for us - and if any problems arise, they’re able to look for creative and cost effective solutions, not the most expensive one.

**★★★★★ — Heather McMaster, Feb. 2024**

> I work with Paint Power all the time and highly recommend them. I am a real estate agent in Brooklyn and they are my "go-to" for painting and light renovations (they can do larger renovations as well). Mila and Brando (the owners) are super responsive. I am always so happy with the work they do. In my business reliability is so important as is the quality of work and Paint Power delivers on both.

**★★★★★ — HU-768128319, July 2023**

> I cant say enough about Paint Power and the husband wife duo who own it, Brando and Mila. First time in my 18 years career as a real estate agent have I seen a contractor who not only has decent prices, but delivered on time, worked so clean and efficiently, super honest didn't try to upsell my clients and just overall great attitude and EXCELLENT QUALITY WORK. Renovations is a scary task for my clients and thanks to Brando and his team he didn't let me or my clients down! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

> Paint Power is an excellent company that does beautiful work. It is a company that you can trust on every level. I am more than delighted with the work they have done for us. I wanted our newly purchased home to be repainted and have a clean updated look. The house was built in 1935 with original moldings and old plaster walls. After the work was completed, I felt as though I was in a brand new build. I am most grateful for the professional work that was performed by a very caring crew of painters. Thank you, Brando and Mila, Ceasar, Matteo, Leader, Ariel, Jefferson, and Miquel, thru your hard work and dedication you have transformed our home and have made our dreams come true.

**★★★★★ — Greg Venech, Aug. 2021**

> Brando, Hector, Mike and the rest of the team came in and essentially rebuilt our entire basement. This included floor leveling, installation of a new subfloor, the hardwood flooring on top of it and some wall removal. Not only were they able to start quickly but they asked questions when necessary and finished everything in under two months.
>
> I would definitely recommend Paint Power to others and look forward to hiring their team again for future projects.

**★★★★★ — Ryan Fischer Harbage, May 2021**

> Brando and his crew have remodeled teo Brooklyn row houses for me over 5 years. Their work is excellent. They are cheerful and always get everything done with cheerful care. I would not work with anyone else.

**★★★★★ — Ellen Stoller, March 2021**

> Paint Power are amazing. They were efficient, understood our job very well, managed their time in our home and were thoughtful and considerate. They finished everything we asked and even fixed some extra items. I can’t recommend them enough! This job involved carpentry as well as plastering, painting and installation.

**Comment from PAINT POWER:**

> Thank you so much Ellen for your kind words. We really appreciate you taking the time out to share your experience!

## Community Q&A

**Q: What trim color with Dove White kitchen cabinets?** *(in Paint)*

We are painting our kitchen cabinets Dove White. The backsplash is a dark gray tile, and the granite is mostly a creamy white with gray and black tones through it.
The walls are currently a soft green. We are wondering if we should paint the trim the dove white to match the trim or if it would be better to have a brighter White on the trim?
If we go with a different color, which white trim color would provide enough contrast? We don't want it to look like it was supposed to match, but it missed!?

A: Hey there! You can match it with Chantilly lace to add more contrast using whites 😉

**Q: piano and other furniture in family room** *(in Home Decorating)*

I wanted to thank the Houzz community for helping make the family room come together in my downsized retirement home. We love it!
So glad I can fit my “player” piano and watch the piano keys dance! I hardly enjoyed it in my old house where it was in its own isolated music room. Took your advice on protecting it with dual shades and protective windows. These dual shades are also used to watch (binge!!) shows on a movie screen that comes down from ceiling above fp (which doesn’t allow me to put things on the mantle. Oh well!).
Did I say that we practically live in this room??!! Other rooms have come along nicely as well. My bedroom is still a work in progress!

A: It looks so great! It gives that serenity vibe that we want in our homes. A perfect room to do many things 👌

**Q: antique cabinets in kitchen remodel** *(in The Old House)*

Hello there!
We’re embarking on a kitchen remodel of our 1906 home. The last time the kitchen was updated was in the 1970s. My goal is to bring a feeling of the original kitchen into the remodel. I’ve been thinking of how to do this and have found a lot of great new kitchens online that use antiques or tile that looks more historic. Today I found the bottom half of a bar. It’s the right size in every way. I love it and I want it and I’ll be saving thousands of dollars using this piece instead of ordering 3 to 4 cabinets bases from our manufacturer. But I’m nervous about blending the new cabinets we will need with these antique ones. Had anyone used antiques for the built in aspects of their kitchens? Not just a table or hutch? This piece will get a counter top on top of it and become some of the most used counter space in the kitchen.
Thanks!

A: Hello there! Don't be scared, we think your idea will look great, just try to match the colors and put some cool latches. That will make the difference.

**Q: Bathroom Reno Part 2 Before/After Pics DIY Project** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This is part 2 of our master bathroom reno- we did this bathroom in 2 stages and still have a little bit to finish up (including a shower door, potential runner rug, a small bit of art and fancy light above the toilet we will be adding in the spring.) My husband and I are experienced DIYers and gutted this bathroom down to the studs and built it back up- going from 1 sink to 2, a bathtub to a shower, removing an old small closet to gain space, changing out 2 swinging doors that took up much needed space in the bathroom to a sliding barn door and a pocket door. The shower has some serious and sound waterproofing behind those tiles. We saved a ton of money doing it ourselves (this was by no means an easy DIY job) and by using IKEA kitchen cabinets. The wood counter is from IKEA $210 (sealed extremely well with poly, this is not a countertop for a bathroom with children as it can be scratched or scorched. I use a cork pad for my curling iron. Its been holding up well over the past 8 months however, and looks as good as when we installed it. Zero water mark issues.) The flooring is not tile, but is Tarkett Fiberfloor, which is inexpensive, soft, warm and easy to clean. We used textured faux grasscloth wallpaper from Lowes on the backsplash and towel hook wall. The extra long neck faucets are from Amazon at a cost of about $70 each (and I adore them.) The hammered copper with a nickel finish sinks are from Home Depot (purchased online during a black friday sale.) We used about 750 subway tiles (American Olean Starting Line in White Gloss from Lowes which have self spacers) for the shower. The shower niche was on sale from Wayfair. This bathroom always had a humidity problem after showering (and we live in a dry climate)...the Panasonic bath fan we put in was like magic. Highly recommend the brand. Very quiet and powerful.

As usual, we realize this won't be everyones cup of tea here, as we all have different tastes. It fits our personalities and style and we love it. We like to show what you can do on your own if you don't have access to a very large budget- but do have access to determination, imagination and are willing to do most of the work yourself.

You can see more of the renos we've done to this house in my profile.

Before:

In this photo you can see the old closet space inside the bathroom on the right hand side that we removed to allow us to have the room for 2 sinks.

A: What an impressive remodeling job! Enjoy!

**Q: Sewing/Quilting/Computer Room Makeover!** *(in Organizing the Home)*

Last Summer, I tackled my sewing/quilting/computer room with a total makeover to make the room more functional and colorful since I love color! After taking a lot of my craft items out of the room that included sewing, quilting, and beading supplies, I cleaned the room and painted it with a gallon of Palace Rose from Behr and since the color was not vibrant enough for me, I purchased a much deeper rose color from Behr and mixed the 2 together and viola--I got a color that I really love! My husband built shelves from old interior doors given to us and he replaced the carpet with a pretty silvery grey, which I love. I purchased some new furniture to hold my supplies along with creating a peg board and I purchased a new computer desk that would accommodate my new flat screen monitor! I love black with pink along with the brilliant white I used in the room for the trim and closet doors. I decided to paint my shelves with black to again punch up the colors in the room. I spend most of my day in this room and it was very important to get it organized and of course, to add beautiful color. Since I suffer from Fibromyalgia and Osteo Arthritis, it took me 2 months to get everything done.
BEFORE (Furniture and carpet from the last home owners):

One of the first things I did to this room was to remove these ugly drapes (not my style)! The quilted panels on this window were made by me for my last house.

AFTER:

The first machine you see is my HQ Quilting Machine which makes it much easier to quilt quilts! Since this photo was taken, my hubby made the cabinet to the right of the quilting table the same height so that it is much easier to work here. He also mounted my thread racks that hold 120 spools of embroidery thread on the wall left of the window.

Close up of the quilted panels that cover this window. Each panel has an embroidered basket of flowers and they represent the 4 seasons!

This is my pegboard that holds a lot of notions and beading supplies. My hubby built the frame around the board and I painted it black. I shopped at the dollar store for my buckets and trays to save money! I spent a lot of time on You Tube getting ideas for my room.

My other window that has a kitty cot for my cats to sleep on (you see two of them on this cot). I purchased beautiful stained glass items that adorn the upper part of the window. Under the kitty cot are new units that hold cubes which hold a lot of items!

This is one of my clothes closet where I also store a lot of supplies and an embroidery machine on the floor of the closet! The storage units on top of the shelf are from QVC, which I love since they have clear windows so that I can see what fabrics I have stored in them (just a small portion of my fabric stash). The cabinet to the right holds spools of ribbons, jars of buttons, and hanging from the rod are my quilting rulers! That cabinet was purchased from a friend on Etsy and it was too ugly for words! I painted it black and spray painted the cabinet door handle with silver metallic paint, which I also used on the closet door handles. Over the window is a jewelry display bar that after my hubby built the bar and I painted it black, we added door knobs so that I could hang some of the necklaces that I made from the bar (an idea I got while I was on Etsy)! The rolling cart in front of the closet holds tons of beading supplies, which has now been moved to a storage room.

This is where I am at right now writing this post and adding photos. I wanted to share what I did with an approximately 11x12 bedroom to make it into the craft room I always wanted! It can be done with careful planning and adding shelves over windows and doors!

A: Good job, Bev!

**Q: A fresh look for a 1984 modern style home** *(in Before & After)*

This 1984 modern built home was in need of a facelift. The old vinyl siding was brittle, outdated, and lacked character. The roof overpowered the front of the home and the celestial windows faded into the roofline.
It took a few years before we could make a decision on how to bring a little style and personality to our home.

We removed the vinyl siding and replaced it with stucco. Then enhanced the front with a coining application to draw the eye away from the roofline.

The Sherwin Williams paint is - body SW 6171 Chatroom, trim SW 6237 Dark Night, and entrance is SW 6390 Bosc Pear.

Do you like what we have accomplished? Many of our neighbors are astonished and a few are disappointed.

Before - Vinyl siding and no character

After - Vinyl removed, stucco and paint applied

During - Vinyl has been removed, the stucco and coining has been applied

A: Great makeover!
