## Selected projects

- [Timbered Lake Lodge](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/timbered-lake-lodge-pj-vj~5458603)
  - Location: Alton, NH
  - Photos: 20
  - Description: This 3,800 SF, heavy-timbered home is built on a small parcel of land on Lake Winnipesaukee that was purchased by the client’s great-grandfather in 1920. The clients wanted a home designed for entertaining that evoked lake lodges of the past, with extended living space gained through open, easy access to the water. In addition, they desired a large garage to hold the client’s car collection and a plan to refurbish the existing boathouse. To achieve the desired lodge esthetic, SDA designed a post…
- [Norway Point Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/norway-point-home-pj-vj~795321)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 17
  - Description: This home is sited on a narrow peninsula that ends in a moon-shaped cove embraced by two thin strips of rocky shoreline providing limited viable land on which to build. The overall house footprint and shape are uniquely formed by the site constraints. In order to accommodate the required setbacks and address the clients desire to maximize lake views, a bowed elevation was adopted for the main living area and the master bedroom. The design allows for views of the sunrise as the clients look lake-…
- [Renovated Family Farmhouse](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/renovated-family-farmhouse-pj-vj~5458577)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 22
  - Description: The Client’s family has treasured this farmhouse ever since her father purchased it in the 1950s, with every space containing photographs and vintage items. By 2015, however, the dark, rambling warren of tiny rooms no longer accommodated the growing family. The farmhouse was not winterized and the steep stairs did not meet code. The Client wished to renovate the home in a way that honored the old house and created space for the family to make memories for generations to come. A portion of the ex…
- [Intervale Pond Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/intervale-pond-home-pj-vj~795170)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: This 2,200 SF cottage sits on 15 secluded acres fronting a pristine pond deep in a seemingly untouched hardwood forest. The cottage is so remote in fact, that in the winter season the Clients must snowshoe or cross-county ski from the main road, as the one-lane dirt access road is not maintained for winter travel. The simple use of woods and other natural materials add to the feeling that this structure “belongs” in its setting. The three-bedroom cottage features a Douglas Fir post and beam fram…
- [Lakes Region Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lakes-region-home-pj-vj~5458553)

- [Meadow Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/meadow-home-pj-vj~795251)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: Two years before work on this home even began, the Client was involved in the preparation of this most unusual site. The Client originally purchased a total of 55 acres. Fourteen of those acres the Client chose to donate to a local land trust as they were adjacent to a small natural area. The remaining acreage contained an 8 acre abandoned sand and gravel pit, many stumps and slash from recent logging, and wetland with red oak, pine, hemlock, poplar and cherry; a dozen very large high bush cranb…
- [New England Island Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/new-england-island-home-pj-vj~796067)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: The most stirring compliment that the clients have received on their new home came from their caretaker who has lived in the area and cared for homes on the island all of his life. He simply said that he liked it because it reminded him of the homes that used to be found all around the lake when he was much younger. As it happens, that is exactly what the clients wanted to create when they first approached the project. The home is located on a point at the southernmost tip of Governor’s Island -…
- [Valley Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/valley-home-pj-vj~796019)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: The Clients wanted to create a home in this small mountain community where they could actively pursue their loves of gardening, skiing, and hiking. Using memories, collections and found objects they sought to build a home that would reflect their family and personal histories and would be a dynamic, comfortable place for visits with their grown children. The Owners had a vision of what this house would be like. They knew that they wanted it to be of post and beam construction; for the interior t…
- [Camp Oligawi](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/camp-oligawi-pj-vj~795833)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: Oligawi - An Abenaki word meaning “peaceful rest.” When the Client contacted the Architect, that is exactly what she wanted to create, a quiet retreat for the entire family, a jewel of a home where they would be able to “rest” and gather for generations to come. What she found as the project progressed was a great pleasure in the creative energy produced between herself and the Architect, and that central to the creation of her “peaceful rest” was an immense amount of energy and playfulness in t…
- [Squam Lake Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/squam-lake-home-pj-vj~795206)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: As a painter of natural landscapes, the Owner of this lakeside home had a unique appreciation for the beauty of Squam Lake and the respectful building practices that have kept the shoreline and the lake pristine. As an artist, she had a feeling for the romantic and historic nature of the traditional camps that lay tucked behind veils of trees along the shoreline, hosting generations of families as they gathered to celebrate New England summers. These feelings informed the focus of the project: t…
- [Family Vacation Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/family-vacation-home-pj-vj~795961)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: The Clients wanted a vacation home on a quiet lake that could accommodate their four grown children, and eight grandchildren. They planned to spend long stretches of time on the lake in the spring, summer, and fall, and to gather there for holidays and family celebrations. They knew that the only way to truly enjoy all of this togetherness was to include spaces in the design where each family could have some measure of privacy. The Architect worked with the entire family to create this 9,000 SF…
- [Mountain Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mountain-home-pj-vj~795418)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: The Clients value the unspoiled nature of New Hampshire’s White Mountains. They wanted to have a home in these mountains, but did not want it to be obtrusive, or in any way detract from the beautiful riverside setting. Both the Clients and the Architect wanted to contribute a more unique and site appropriate design than much of the recent development in the immediate area. The Clients wanted this home to look like it belonged in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, to reflect in materials and s…
- [Family Camp Restoration & Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/family-camp-restoration-and-renovation-pj-vj~795500)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: This classic New England camp has been in the Client’s family since it was built in 1910. Childhood and family memories of summers spent on the lake and in the camp made them reluctant, at first, to even think of renovation work. With the Architect, they resolved to keep the essence and atmosphere of this place they loved by maintaining the original construction and architectural details while accomplishing general repairs and opening the house up to the lake. It was also agreed that the general…

- [Ski Area Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/ski-area-home-pj-vj~795661)
  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: The post and beam home “sits into” the hillside on the steep site with a large curve of porch and windows maximizing the view. An access stair and covered bridge at the loft level allow the family direct access to the ski trails. The home is clad in red cedar shingles with a Doug Fir timber frame and fieldstone fireplace and chimney. Floors are of concrete in the entry porch and pine throughout the rest of the home. Cherry sapling adorned wainscoting is found in the bathrooms and a birch bark pa…
