> I met with Diana regarding a custom Mosaic of her parents property. Diana and her siblings wanted to articulate what it was like growing up on their parents property. all of the siblings had input on what they wanted in the mosaic. I designed a mosaic using inspiration from the hills of Silverton and pictures of the family home, Barn, Dad's log truck, a dove to represent dad going off to heaven, sun rays, Bible verse, hops, Vineyard, madrone trees, I added the 6 butterflies, two frogs, 3 turkey vultures and abiqua falls. the whole family was dreamy to work with. The day I installed the mosaic all six children were there and Mom was very moved by the art her children had commissioned. I highly endorse Diana Paul design for your home renovations.

**Q: Love the thickness of the island countertop** *(in Photo Questions)*

How thick is the island countertop and what material is it?

A: Oh my gosh, I apparently don't look at my Houzz profile enough to answer questions quickly... Sorry about that! The countertop is 6cm thick. It's a 3cm slab with a mitered edge that drops down to 6cm. The miter ensures you don't see a seam on the side of the edge. The seam is within the top edge so it becomes less visible. Thanks for the question!

**Q: Love the cabinet color!** *(in Photo Questions)*

What species of wood and stain color are the cabinets?

A: These are maple cabinets from Omega Cabinetry https://www.omegacabinetry.com/ The finish is called Smokey Hills. I run by business out of a cabinet design center called Eastbank Interiors, and this is one of the lines of cabinets we use quite a lot. We love them! Thanks for the question!

**Q: Microwave** *(in Photo Questions)*

I've been seeing this a lot where the microwave is placed lower below the countertop....is this to save space?

A: My first question on Houzz! I'm so excited! Looks like I don't have notifications set up for questions, sorry so late...
Most of the time, we put microwaves below the countertop just because there isn't a good place to put them above... It often has to do with the "look" of having a microwave above the countertop. Like this example, a microwave in the really light, airy feeling on the walls would be a big distraction.
Sometimes people want to put the microwave down low, but can't because it would take up too much of their base cabinet storage space.
Microwaves can be tricky to place, so I just take it case by case and ask lots of questions about how the homeowner wants the kitchen to look and function, how often they use a microwave, how important it is in general. Sometimes I just make sure there's an outlet on a shelf in a nearby pantry if it's not terribly important and doesn't get used often, but is convenient to have.

What wood Species and Finish type is this?

A: Hi there! That is Omega's quarter sawn white oak in the Riverbed finish. Cool, huh?!?! Omega does the BEST quarter sawn oak for not a huge price increase. We love it... They have a new finish called Desert that looks more like this color in person. In person, Riverbed is a little more on the gray side...
