Our small team of artisans create hand crafted metalwork, designed to fit each client's unique style and needs.

In my studio, I use traditional blacksmithing techniques, industrial equipment, fire and creativity to turn raw steel into art. Each piece I create is unique, designed to suit the client's personal style and needs.

My career as a blacksmith began in Memphis, Tennessee. After a two year apprenticeship with a furniture designer, I opened my Memphis Studio in 1997. I have worked with architects, interior designers, contractors, government agencies and countless private individuals to create beautiful, custom ironwork.

For over a decade, I have worked to develop my skills as a designer and craftsman. My work is ever changing. With each new project there are unique opportunities and challenges - this is what inspires me.

> We are a Marine/Civil General and Engineering Contractor in the San Francisco Bay Area.
> We just celebrated our 30th year of business so I speak from experience. If your looking for that special look that will set your project apart from the norm, Jill Turman (owner of Bella Ironworks) is the lady you need on your side. Her ability to take your thoughts then add her artistic touch and provide you with a hand drafted drawing of what your thinking to submit to your clients is amazing. Not only have we been amazed by her commercial work, but I have the privilege to view her artistic work which I had made for my custom home.

> Jill and her team at Bella Ironworks does a fabulous job every time. We have worked with her on several custom furniture pieces, and they always turn out wonderful. She is great at understanding the design, and details of what we want and need.

> Jill Turman, owner at Bella Ironworks, and her team are amazing blacksmiths and have done innumerable beautiful projects for our clients. Jill has extensive experience and knowledge in this unique field, and brings this to every project, improving the outcome in the details as well as in the big picture. They are very versatile in what they can build, whether it’s a simple, handsome handrail, or a complex design element with many flourishes or intricacies. Jill has been happy to build our designs, but is a very talented designer in her own right and so often has weighed in or offered alternate options. Every custom situation calls for something different, whether it’s the architectural vocabulary, the relationship between materials on a project, or special customer service, and they’re up to the task!

> I am a General Contractor in the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe. Jill and her team have worked with us on several projects. She is a pleasure to work with - an absolute professional. Clearly we appreciate the quality of her work, but equally important to us is how well she interacts with homeowners. Her knowledge and personality quickly gain trust, which is helpful on any project.

> I worked with Bella Iron while designing projects for a very high-end design firm in San Francisco. When I began working on my own, I had several needs for custom table bases and Bella Iron delivered the most beautiful hand-forged textures, worked with me to get the perfect color on the metal for each of my clients and were amazing to work with overall. I recently asked Jill to create table legs that were 7" wide in a textured iron finish and she had a special tool and dye created in order to put the texture I wanted on that wide of a surface. She had her team hand forge the texture in any places that were missed by the tool and the result on the sample was stunning. I can't say enough about the quality of work that comes out of this workroom. They are truly artists and can handle projects large and small. I love working through engineering each custom piece with Jill to insure maximum strength, stability, & beauty, while keeping costs down where possible. Once after having a table delivered to my wood workers, the owner inspected the base and said that he is a welder, but had never seen welds as invisible and perfect as the ones on the table base made by Bella.

> I cannot say enough great things about Jill Turman and Bella Ironworks. Their work is top quality, fantastic customer service and their finishes turn out beautifully. We used Bella Ironworks for our niche for the San Francisco Decorator Showcase in 2015 and it was the hit of the space.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Simple curtain rod question** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have two windows that across measure about six feet...in my bathroom. I was going to hang a curtain rod above the molding and ideally I'd like two curtains to pull toward the right versus have them hang left and right. I see us mostly opening these curtains but only closing during a shower.

The curtains I picked are light linen ones, not heavy. My husband thinks we need to put a middle support thingy in there to hold the curtains and rod.

Do you?

If I do, I will not be able to pull them to the right as planned.

A: You can get a custom rod that will span that distance without sagging. I made one for my 8' wide doors without a center support, but is larger than you can buy at most retail locations
