In 2000, Douglas Mott's move to a community of artists near a river proved catalytic to his considering art as a viable form of self-expression. It was at this time that he moved past the traditional boundaries of designer and craftsman and started creating a body of work in the realm of art.
Mott values the materials of wood and metal partly because of their historic precedent. Each suggests different approaches to line and form, the combination of which are vital to his compositions. His attraction to natural themes intermingle with deeply personal references to create expressions of new ideas.

Influenced by a social awareness to the responsibility of conveying a positive message, Mott uses figural and non-represenational forms to create images of joy, passion, hope, humor and peace.

Visitors are welcome and encouraged to join in the ongoing dialog about art and life, serious or otherwise. The studio / workshop is located in rural Chester County Pennsylvania, 50 miles west of Philadelphia. For more specific directions please feel free to call 610 913 6270.

> My husband and I had hired Douglas Construction to gut and then design and build a second bathroom in our 19th century farmhouse. The bathroom presented many challenges, including an uneven floor, multi-angled ceiling, and structural issues. All were resolved expertly and efficiently. Doug proved not only to be a master craftsman but also a skilled designer who seamlessly paired unusual architectural elements with modern day fixtures and amenities. When we asked for design guidance, he willingly provided it. Yet, he never pressured or imposed his taste on us. The end result is a gorgeous, meticulously crafted bathroom that exceeds all expectations. We truly could not be more pleased. > We originally hired Doug Mott to help correct a substandard floor installation done by Hood Flooring out of Lambertville, NJ.  We knew he was more than simply a woodworker and handiman - but a true craftsman and artist.  We then commissioned him to create a pair of end tables for a room that had an African theme.  I wish there was a way we could attach images to these reviews, because the results were abosutely stunning.  Since then, he has redesigned and remodelled our kitchen island and a master bathroom.  In both cases, people who visit invariably drop their respective jaws.
