My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Vaughn Scott of VS Design Group in Calgary last summer for our second new-home build. Our work together started in late July and by early September we had just the fine details to discuss. At that point we were able to resolve the remaining details via e:mail with very prompt responses from Vaughn. Most impressive was Vaughn’s ability to take from our first discussion a front home elevation that we’ve never had to change – we loved the look of our next potential new home. Vaughn is very knowledgeable on our city’s building restrictions and required codes, which allow the design process to move along at a productive pace. He is a creative designer, but at the same time keeps an eye to his client’s budget. He cleverly designed our roofline, which is both interesting and appeasing, while still keeping it affordable. It was very much appreciated to have options given with cost in mind. We always felt that our suggestions or ideas were considered and that feedback was professional and well handled. Vaughn is very approachable. At one point, post the design sign-off, I had a concern on an area that I had been vague about. Vaughn responded immediately to my concerns and offered a couple solutions, one of which was redrawn the next day! We recently sought out his expertise again to do a major renovation to a small bungalow. A small addition to the front and creating a very desirable roof line from the typical 1955 sloped roof. He was very attentive to our requests as well as the structural design components such as an en-suite, large front entrance and an open concept main floor. Vaugh accomplished this by utilizing existing walls and flush beams to really open up the smaller space. His pre-inspection of the home was accurate and proved very valuable in the design we were after.
