> Karen was amazing helping me find a good layout for my awkward living room! What a transformation! She helped me find the right accessories to bring it all together, like an area rug, end tables, curtains, without breaking the bank. Highly recommend! Attached are photos before and after the consultation.

> Karen is a wonderful person.
> I’ve known Karen for a decade maybe longer. She has designed my PA house and now my FL house. Karen is always thinking about your design - communication is excellent. Her ideas are great and she’s always aware of the budget. She’s very thoughtful of your personal preferences and sentimentality. Most of all, Karen designs what you will love and imprints every design with her heart and soul.
> I’ve tried other designers because of logistics and no one comes close to Karen.

**Comment from Grey Heron Interiors:**

> Thank you so very much for this wonderful review! It is always a pleasure working with you. I'm so excited to see the final designs come to life!

> Grey Heron Interiors is THE BEST \*\*\*\*\*
> Designer Karen, has helped me with several projects. My WHOLE house flows, she made it make sense. She has a VERY unique eye for fabrics which transforms everything into a rich design. I can't even brag enough about the complements I receive on my kitchen. It is beautiful and timeless. My family room has a clean, comfy feel to it. She provides swatches for fabric, wood and hardware. Oh and the best part.. you get a Digital layout of the room! You feel like you're on a home show!!

**Comment from Grey Heron Interiors:**

> Thank you Airen Ehrlich - what wonderful words. It was such a pleasure working with you and your husband on your spaces. I'm so glad you thoroughly enjoyed the process and I'm so glad I made you feel like you were on a home show! Your rooms turned out beautifully and I'm so happy you love them. I look forward to working with you again.

> I posted a question in "Design Dilemma" on Houzz. I needed help with my master bedroom and bath paint color. Not only did Karen offer suggestions, she had Benjamin Moore to send me 8 x 8 samples of the colors she recommended. I received eight of the squares for each paint color. Her help was tremendous, and my husband and I absolutely love the color we chose. Who knew one could find the perfect paint color just from posting a few pictures. I was extremely fortunate that Karen saw my post and offered her help. I wish we lived closer so I could have her come to my home to help me with some rooms, but I live in Georgia. I would highly recommend her. Thank you, Karen.

> Our first contact with Karen was almost ten years ago when we asked her to design our family room. The brown and dreary room became light and airy and is a beautiful focal point when you enter our home. We have used Karen for three projects ( and now beginning our fourth)! She designed and orchestrated a MAJOR renovation of our kitchen. She took the lead with EVERY part of the project, including finding the best contractor for the renovation and being the contact person when they had questions. Who knew there were so many choices to make for drawer pulls and kitchen faucets? She gives great attention to every little detail. Karen was ALWAYS just a phone call away (even on nights and weekends). She made sure that she knew our style and color preferences, and our new kitchen is everything we wished for. One year later, we just finished our living room which Karen designed to be kid & pet friendly - a warm and inviting room for family gatherings. We are now ready for her to help us update our entryway. She has offered lots of ideas and color schemes to blend in with the other rooms. One last point- in the 10 years since we updated our family room, she moved almost 200 miles away. The kitchen renovation and living room project went off without a hitch. She has fabulous ideas, and always gave us choices that reflected our personal style preferences. Karen is truly wonderful to work with- highly recommend her work

> Grey Heron has helped me with a few projects; window treatments in living/dining rooms, paint colors & furniture placement for guest bedroom and a total remodel of my teenage son's room. Karen is extremely easy to work with, especially since most of our communications are through email and phone conferences. She is very creative, respectful of our budgets and truly listened to what we wanted; she didn't force her design style on us. I highly recommend Grey Heron!

**Comment from Grey Heron Interiors:**

She worked very well with my contractor as well; so we were all on the same page with what I wanted. I highly recommend Grey Heron for all you interior designs needs; big or small!

## Community Q&A

**Q: please help me choose a layout** *(in Design Dilemma)*

this is my first kitchen remodel. my dad is a carpenter and does these all the time and has been helping me. We can do everything for cheap. except the doors and countertops. I am so scared to commit to anything. I'm panicking.
Here are three designs.
Ive been living with the first design for the last year. and it's not bad. but behind the island is tight if the stools are out. I feel like this is the prettiest design but maybe not the most spacious.
the second design is the same but I removed the cabinets from most the island to hopefully help keep the seats out of the way. idk if it would really help though.
the 3rd design, the u shape, has an added door to the backyard. all my neighbors with the same house have added doors in that spot, so it is a popular thing to do on my street. I would have to change my lighting placement which would be annoying. this is the most expensive design. I feel like the u shape makes the kitchen look smaller. there is less seating. but this design has more storage and probably better flow.
please please please help

**Q: Please Help With Tiny Bedroom** *(in Organizing the Home)*

Hello, I’m here for help with making the most in my 10x12 room I’m moving in to. I’m relocating so will be starting out renting just a room. I’m desperate to make the most of every inch of space without it looking like a storage unit. The room also has no closet! Downsizing to a twin bed so thinking of getting one that sits hiigh with drawers underneath for storage. I’ve also seen corner ceiling high double rod ”closets”. I do want a door of some type covering my clothes. I have two beautiful small chairs. The ”closet” systems I’ve seen also can be made with a row of drawers to use as a dresser. I’ll hang my TV. Also maybe some floating shelves or floating desk? Thank you in advance for any ideas you might have.
Also, any closet design companies in the Temecula/Murrietta, CA areas that are reasonable and reputable!

**Q: Mixing stained wood furniture with painted wood furniture** *(in Home Decorating)*

We are redoing our primary bath and bedroom. The bathroom vanity is going to be a dark blue (Sea Serpent by SW) and the walls will be a light greige (SW Repose Gray). The bedroom walls will be a shade darker (SW Mindful Gray). Our bedroom furniture (Bed, tall dresser and a jewelry armoire) is mahogany. We need a long dresser and two nightstands. I cannot get the pieces that match what we have, I’ve tried.

I think I want to go totally different with different wood or painted pieces. I would love thoughts on colors and how to successfully put stained and painted pieces together.

These are the pieces we will be keeping. I need to get a long dresser and two nightstands and I am leaning towards painted furniture. I was thinking maybe white/cream or even a blue that would coordinate but not match the bathroom vanity. I could also use help on the style of furniturebased on the pieces we already have. I would love thoughts and ideas.

Hello, Im currently repainting all my bedrooms which includes a master bedroom with a dark wood fireplace and black tile. Its a seperate corner of my bedroom but still part of the room. im not sure which direction to go with. I was thinking If i should do the master and the addition all one moody color, or should I speerate this space with a brighter color? Im picking everything from benjamin moore! So far i have chosen these colors as options:
-Sea Salt
-Edgecomb Gray
-Abalone (it think abalone is a little too grey for me)
-Ivory White
-Acadia White

**Q: ordering link cccccfff** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you share the url so I can order this? It looks great.

A: Sure! https://www.etsy.com/listing/955054504/linen-bed-skirt-dust-bed-skirt-linen?ref=hp\_rv-1&pro=1&frs=1 Just pick your size and drop.

**Q: Tips on installing wallpaper so it’s easier to remove?** *(in Home Repair)*

I’m planning to install this wallpaper in my new powder room, above a wainscoting, and was wondering if there’s anything I can do now to make it easier to remove in the future, either by me or a future owner.

Last night I was reading This Old House and they said that it’s easier to remove wallpaper from plaster. They said that with sheetrock, it almost always goes badly because the wallpaper sticks to the paper on the sheetrock.

So....is there anything I can do now to prevent problems down the line? (Short of plastering the walls?)

Thanks in advance for your help

A: Hi girl\_wonder,

Yes! You have two options:

1\) Make sure the wallboard is primed really well with an oil-based primer like Zinsser. Wallpaper paste - whether its brushed on or pre-pasted will soak right through latex paint no matter how many coats you use - and become one with the wallboard paper. Then you need to roll on sizing so the paper is more manageable.

Or

2\) You can apply Zinsser Shieldz Universal Wallcovering Primer. Here's the link: https://www.thepaintstore.com/Zinsser-Shieldz-Universal-Wallcovering-Primer-p/02504.htm

Love the paper!

Good luck,
Karen
