**Q: What to do if you have hired a sleazy contractor?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

As one who is in the design services business I keep my standards very high and make sure that the customer is always right.
As a consumer, we mistakenly hired a landscape contractor who put workers on our job who had no pride in their work and the main guy only came about 1/2 hour a day. The quality went downhill from day 1 and all we heard was complaints about how long it was taking. Finally after 4 weeks we had to stop work with 1/7th still to go, as the gate metal work was so god-awful and the gate was dragging on the ground as to be completely unacceptable. I think he purposely did a bad job just to get us to fire him.
There were numerous cases where something was done not strong enough, crooked, poorly, upside down or backwards. 
We signed the contract and paid in full, just to get rid of him. All he cared about was money.
Any thoughts on how to deal with this? Should I complain or write bad reviews?

we are looking to add a covered front porch/patio to the front of our house. do we hire a general contractor or a landscape designer/contractor? we would like a covered patio with roof attached to front of our 2-story colonial
