**Q: Window treatments** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Like our window views of our backyard so want to find window treatments that allow us to continue to enjoy it but will also give us relief from sun shining in certain times of the day. What options would you suggest?

A: If you want to cut the sun glare, preserve your view, and still have the option for privacy then Silhouette shades may be a good option.  Having sheer window coverings will not only remove the sun glare, but help keep your furniture, floor, and rug from fading due to sun exposure. 
This type of shade has floating fabric veins between two sheer layers. These veins can be rotated to "close" the shade for more privacy and light filtering. This style can also work well with warm traditional decor styles, while roller shades often tend to lean towards a more modern and simplistic look.

**Q: I need help!!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I want to change my house from traditional to transitional ......where do I start ?

A: Right about here is a good place to start. Think about what your personal style lands (modern, rustic, country etc). The common law suggests that you have some contrast between your vertical and horizontal surfaces.

**Q: Living room decor** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Looking for ways to furnish our awkward living room. There will be no TV, and its use would be more for conversation (I'm not a fan of entertaining). I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the X ottomans, and the shoe trunk is a temporarily placeholder for a coffee table. The throw pillows have terra cotta accents, do I match the curtains/rug with them? Should I go for solid, patterned? TIA!

A: Beautiful hardwood, high ceilings and lots of room to work with. You have so many options. Generally, you want a contrast, darker vertical surface, and a lighter horizontal. Also, the safest method is to leave the patterns to the accents, such as area rugs, pillows and such. It really all comes down to your personal style, if it were me, I'd say maybe trade the curtains and drapes in, and go with something more updated to compliment the rest. Oh, and a fun custom area rug would add some flavor too. Good luck, enjoy and if we can help let us know!
