**Q: Does anyone have one of those faucets with instant hot built in?** *(in Appliances)*

We are closing on a house in a few weeks. We are not doing much to the kitchen as it is recently renovated. However we really enjoy an instant hot faucet and have had one in the past that we used all the time. The new house has Taj Mahal countertops and we don’t want to cut a hole. I have seen a faucet that has an instant hot built in that you operate by twisting a ring or something. I recall seeing it on a Devol kitchen so maybe it is more common in Europe.

A: You need an additional dedicated electrical line for any of the instant hot/cold suppliers.  You will have a tripped breaker if you try to put that on the small appliance circuit and then plug in a toaster oven.

**Q: 70’s Ranch Remodel** *(in The Old House)*

Has anyone remodeled a 70s ranch with an addition? How did you tie everything in to make it look like one home instead of a 70’s home with a 2026 add on? 
Also, ceilings.
My current ceilings are 8 ft. I would like to redo the roof to extend them higher, but I found out that is not an ideal situation. I could vault, but what does a flat 8ft ceiling transformed into a vaulted ceiling look like?

A: ^^^Hideous.  And very expensive to get to hideous. Coulda been a teardown and so much better. And cheaper.

**Q: Looking for Durable Flooring that Actually Looks Nice/High End** *(in Remodeling)*

We are redoing the floors on our entire main level. we currently have a combo of natural slate, carpet, and engineered hardwood. It is extremely visually busy to me, so im looking for something without a lot of variation. My favorite look is the Stuga wood flooring (probably Ingrid color) - i love the long boards, the color, and the ability to nail/glue down so it feels sturdy - but im concerned about the price and durability (we cook a lot and have heavy kid traffic - drops, spills, scooters, couches being tackled and sliding across the floors, etc)

A: Look at a higher end porcelain that either looks like wood or stone if you are concerned with durability.  Marazzi Unicheis one of the best mimics of travertine that I've seen, and it comes in modern large format sizes. Their Meronawood look has few knots, and is wider and longer than the typical wood look. I've personally used a lot of their sister company's Saddle Brook Oak Trail as it's a light natural background.

**Q: Fix Island Doors** *(in Woodworking)*

Good morning all,
We bought this inexpensive island online, it has been such an awesome buy for our family. The only issue is that the doors are flimsy and coming off (pic attached). How do you suggest fixing and reinforcing them so this problem doesn't reoccur?

A: That is an irretrievable broken joint. No fixing that.  I'd suggest contacting a local cabinet maker to make you something similar, but that isn't landfill quality.

**Q: Design Dilemma - Entryway** *(in Building a Home)*

This is our entry area on a new build.  I always envisioned a long linear entry.  The edge of the kitchen protruding into the entry ruins it.  I am told that kitchen edge needs to stick out even with the edge of the family room for structural reasons.  
The builder thinks this is totally fine and it’s a nice big open space.  I’m worried the foyer jogging to the left visually will drive me crazy.   
Am I overthinking this?  Any solutions?
If it’s relevant, the ceiling is 9ft.  It opens into a 2 story family room.  Thanks!

A: WHO designed this  THere's more than "just" that one issue wrong with this plan.  The transition to a 2 story space is not going to work, and neither will a corner fireplace.  THe stairs are awkward and consume room.  The powder room isn't really comfortable either.

**Q: Countertop issues with Dekton...looking for expert advice** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We recently had our kitchen renovated with new cabinets and a Dekton countertop. The Sirius black Dekton slab is gorgeous...BUT it is shimmed on top of the cabinets, AND the shims are loose.  There's a large section of countertop that doesn't appear to be glued to the cabinets at all.  The gap between the cabinets and the slab is about 4mm+/-, or just over 1/8." Below some of the bigger shims, it looks like there's a cabinet panel missing.

We were hoping for a beautifully, finished kitchen, but the companies involved have refused to come out and assess the situation or fix the problems unless we pay the final 10% first. Any advice?

A: YOu are way over reacting. All counters get shimmed.  No cabinets are as level as the counter.  It's normal.  What isn't normal is that the shims shouldn't be moving.  That just means it needs a bigger shim to replace a too small one.
