While we anticipated spending more money then we set out to (every project does) not having a sense of what we were spending and total cost and projections was difficult and remained largely unresolved, leaving us both in the dark and wildly over budget which was difficult. Given that it was our first project, we were perhaps not as direct or firm as we could've been, hence the issue of communication rather than any ill-will but periodic meetings with boiled-down numbers would've been appreciated to review: this is how much we've spent, this is how much we still have to spend, this is where we can hold off etc-- > > Overall, the change in our home is immense and the work is beautiful- it is bright and spacious and feels competely transformed so while it was much more money than we anticipated, we are very greatful for the house we live in and the work that was done! **Comment from Creative Union Network Inc.:** > Thanks for your feedback. When we work closely together with a General Contractor it sometimes happens that the allocation of responsibilities becomes a bit blurry and slips happen. With a time and material based approach it isn't always easy to do so, and it depends a lot on the thoroughness of the General Contractor to keep everybody up-to-date on numbers. They came up with an exceptional design that used cedar wood planks and steel frames that matched the aesthetic of the apartment and its surroundings. In an urban spot like ours, the cedar wood looks and feels like a beautiful retreat, we can even smell the cedar wood when we enter and exit our home. The design itself is beautiful, modern, and with a touch of a nature-oriented aesthetic that we so appreciate. The angled wall of the porch is great to lean against, with built in benches providing a place to rest and entertain. We love that the top of the porch wall is also wide enough to hold a cup of coffee or small decor items if we wanted. The steel framing matches our apartment's steel doors and other motifs, and best of all, the steel siding to our stairway has a cut-out pattern that is an abstract image of our beloved dog, Fable! That personal touch made what is an outstanding porch even more meaningful and personal for us. The icing on the cake is the fact that the wall design is modular, with removable sections to facilitate moving furniture in and out of our raised-level studio right from a truck in the case of any future move. We highly recommend Creative Union, we have so much respect and admiration for their incredible talent, skill, attention to detail, design sense and expertise.
