She was also very good at communicating the process and keeping me up to date on what would be going on from week to week. > My wife and I decided we really needed to totally renovate the kitchen so we drew some rough concepts and went out to bid on the cabinets.  K&B Galleries were the low bidder of five companies on the concept so we gave them a design deposit of $500 to take the design to detailed construction drawings.  Robin, the designer, was very patient with us as we can be demanding having built homes in the past and my 40 years in the construction industry.  The cabinets came on time and were professionally installed by their excellent trim carpenters.  Installing kitchen cabinets is what I call forensic carpentry. They didn't rush but instead took their time to get it installed properly the first time. They dealt with uneven walls with unique solutions that they went over with us before proceeding. They even pointed out two doors that didn't meet their standards and ordered them replaced at no cost.  They also added some shelves for us at no additional cost.  They went out of their way to be sure it was perfect and it is.  Our new kitchen is stunning.

The scope included some new hardwood to be woven into the existing floors, re-staining the full hardwood floor, re-doing the bath, opening up the floorplan by tearing down walls (combining the dining area and kitchen into one large room), repainting the whole house, updating many light fixtures, and building a large island.  We had some tight timelines as we only had four weeks between closing on the house and moving in. I love how the sink isn't quite a vessel, but isn't undermounted either.  Can you provide the manufacturer/model?  Thanks!

**Q: Cleaning the chandelier?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I'd be curious to know what the homeowner has to say about cleaning this bubble chandelier fixture in the kitchen.  I live in Denver, and see the designer is in Niwot--any feedback on this?  I'd like to put this exact same fixture in my upcoming kitchen renovation.

A: Hi there--yes, not the easiest thing to clean so you have to be OK with the trade off.   It doesn't have to be done that often but people have different thresholds of "clean" so if your's is low, you may want to use it elsewhere.

**Q: Help on the guest bathroom** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm updating my guest bathroom but got stuck on the color choice. I just put black galaxy granite with two white porcelain square vessel sinks and chrome faucet. I'm adding two Framed mirrors. I'm not sure what tone of tan/brown color I should do the walls?? Any other suggestion of colors?

A: What about wallpaper?  It's a great fit for bathrooms and adds a lot of bang for the buck.  I would consider painting the vanity, which would open up a lot of design choices for you, and upgrade the cabinet hardware-- adding pulls to the top panel, even if it's not a functioning drawer.

**Q: Help with my stairs** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am tearing out the carpet on my stairs but do not want to remove the oak railing because I don't think it would be as sturdy when reinstalled.  I have black slate tile that I am thinking of using as stair tread and just bumping up against the oak tread.  I also have a weathered wood looking floor tile that is in the living room and hallway that meets these stairs.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

A: Use seagrass.  It's incredibly durable and hides a lot of dirt--not to mention it is classic and modern.  You can have it bound in a contrast (choc. brown or black) to give it a crisp look and leave your railing as is.  I have always had 2 big dogs, have seagrass in several rooms of my house & it's great.  I use Carbona rug cleaner (get it in the drugstore) to spot clean when necessary.  Good luck!
