She asked what we couldn’t change (only the granite counters). After discussion, we determined that in our environment, the old and new cabinets needed to be painted for a cohesive look. Jennifer evaluated all the areas that impacted the kitchen then did a deep dive into the colors of our granite and the surrounding areas. She advised color options including telling us the “why” so we were able to see how lighting, furnishings and other factors affect our colors. We were able to finally choose colors for the cabinets, walls, ceilings and woodwork for all the rooms creating a wonderful flow throughout the house. Next, we asked her opinion on flooring styles and colors and her guidance on flooring was extremely helpful! Finally we asked her thoughts on room layout and she helped us “shop the house” identifying new furnishing layouts and wall art we already owned and we literally moved furniture and hung art so by the time she left, our home already looked and felt better! Now, I’m off to the paint store and the contractor has his marching orders. I plan to have Jennifer return after renovations are done so she can help us place furniture and decor to really make the most of our home’s new look! Together we visited the granite yard and tile stores to select everything. Because I was with her, I was easily able to check out samples and take home to look at things in the best light. We also selected carpet this same way. She also came to the cabinet wholesaler to verify the cabinet selections. When it came time to select the paint she came to the house with all these samples (we checked them out again) to make sure everything would go together. The colors are absolutely perfect. Jennifer charges by the hour rather than for the entire job. Many designers charge for the job and then they make an additional commission from the various vendors for your purchases. Jennifer does not take any commission from the vendors so she can more easily work with your budget (she doesn't make money off of a more high end tile selection for instance). In fact, some of our vendors offered me a discounted price because I shopped with her. We love how our house turned out.
