Seeing the crate in the truck when we were unloading filled us with dread. We were BLOWN AWAY by the quality of the countertops however. We couldn't tell which side was meant to be up they were so well-made. This meant that we could avoid the gouges caused by the shippers by using both sides of the countertop. Craft-Art took up our claim with the shipper so we didn't have to and eventually refunded us our shipping costs. All phone calls thru the process were quite pleasant and the folks were competent and customer service oriented. It will have 10" overhang for seating on back side / dual ovens next to each other under the counter on the work side. Picked up a piece of granite large enough to cover at very reasonable price at an auction. Have a beautiful piece of butcher block counter that has never been installed 30" wide x 23". I want to cut out the granite & have the butcher block set into it -- centered on the work side --finished front even with the granite. I'm thinking it will be a nice look & very handy .... My husbands not so sure ... Any thoughts? A: We are a national wood countertop manufacturer and we actually see this Very often! And not just from a budget reason but from a purely design and function reason. The most important thing to remember is that wood has some slight natural movement. So if you initially install your granite and your wood at the same height and at the same amount of overhang, you could see that height or overhang that was once flush begin to vary by as much as a 1/16th of an inch depending on the season. We encourage customers to consider this and perhaps make your wood top 1 inch higher or lower than your granite so you will never notice the variation because the height is different on purpose! This is one of our bar tops being installed in a resent project! (The species/color of wood is our Driftwood Walnut) If you'd like to get a retail quote, I suggest quoting our "Rustic Black Walnut" species - which is Black Walnut with more character and variation intentionally left in the countertop and it's the most like the image above. For example, do you want to paint the cabinets? change the hardware? Put a new facade on that column?
