So we were told that everyone used a schluter with this mosaic tile. We had it installed and it looks horrible - the schulter application did not work because it didn't fit the tile right (Tile Lines sold me the schulter and promised it would work with our mosaic tile we ordered from them). Tile Lines would not assist us previously so we had another tile installation company come up to give us an estimate to do a rework. A: Hi Dianne, that tile is Virtue by Crossville Tile. It is unfortunately discontinued, but there are many marble-look tiles available with subtle veining like this. **Q: tile color/brand** *(in Photo Questions)* In the photo where you can see the sink, dark tile and lighter tile, what is the tile brand and/or color of the lighter tile? It's beautiful! A: The lighter tile is our Metallurgy Silver in 12x24. It is stocked in Canada and is available approximately 3 weeks after order. **Q: Beautiful dark porcelain feature wall! could you share the name/color?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: Hi Catherine, That is Emser Tile's Action Signal 11x23" tile. Unfortunately, the Signal color was discontinued a while ago, so you might not be able to get it through your closest Emser Tile branch. The next closest color in the Action line is Gesture, which is more brown/taupe. Surface Art's Polished Forms Charcoal Vein 12x24s is a similar look to the tile shown here. Hope that helps! **Q: Seams In Cambria (or any Quartz). Trying to Understand? Pros your Opin** *(in Design Dilemma)* So the thread \[here\[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/buyer-beware-cambria-brittanicca-dsvw-vd~4235878) - has me wondering what causes seams to be so off when purchasing quartz counter tops. I was pretty shocked when I saw pics of the seam in the above thread. I would not have accepted it had I known this would happen beforehand. When we got ours, also Britannica, we were told we would need two slabs (not including my island) for the counter tops. My seam was done at the sink and you can barely see it. When we were there for the layout, after the template was done, we were given other choices, one of which were two 20" seams on the side similar to what is shown in the thread I linked. We decided to have the 4" seam done at the sink and the veining was matched up beautifully. I know I would not allow the fabricator to choose where the seam goes without me. Is that part of the problem? I mean when you're spending thousands on counter tops, I don't think what happened in that thread is acceptable. It looks sloppy, and I would be livid if that was my finished product. So to all you pros - what went wrong? Because you have to admit it just doesn't look good. My seam below. We could have had it placed here as well (around the corner) but decided against it. A: When working with customers who may need a seam, I recommend they request a template preview. Most good fabricators have the capability to create a .pdf layout for you showing where they'll cut the slabs and how they plan to line up the seams. Most bad fabricators will not want to do this for you, as they'll just cut the sections that will be the most economical use of the slab. We've worked with many different fabricators over the years, and you do get what you pay for when it comes to customer service, attention to detail, and their own personal pride in producing quality work. This video is pretty cool, showing some professionals using SlabSmith software to line up the seams of a Cambria color. **Q: blacksplash** *(in Photo Questions)* I am getting black galaxy countertops..what color & size travertine back splash would look good with the countertops? my cabinets are light oak A: Hi Trisha, Since most kitchen backsplashes are about 18" from countertop to upper cabinets, I'm a fan of 3x6" and 4x4" travertine tiles. 6x6" feels a bit big unless you have a taller backsplash. If you can find them, longer sizes such as 3x12" also look nice. As for color, a lighter color (cream, ivory, or chiaro) like what we have in the picture will contrast nicely with the Black Galaxy, but you could also use a darker color such as noce (pronounced no-chay) or walnut since you have lighter cabinets. It really depends on how much light you have in the kitchen: a lot of natural light or under cabinet lighting? You can have a darker backsplash. Not a lot of light? I recommend a lighter-colored backsplash. The nice thing about travertine is that it's a common enough stone that you can find it at nearly any tile store. Just check the back of the tile before you buy. If it's severely pitted, it's a lower quality stone that will be very crumbly. If it's pretty dense with only a few little pits and holes, it will be easier to install and a better looking product.
