> Augustus was an easy first choice for a planned down-to-the-studs renovation of a 2400sf midcentury modern home on Cape Cod. Brian Hopkins was patient and resourceful, proposing a thoughtful plan to preserve key architectural features upstairs and make the most of the walk-out lower level, all while staying within our budget. We also were able to view some terrific work they had done on high-end renovations in the area, including significant home expansions with beautiful built-ins / cabinetry. Although our purchase of this home unfortunately fell through for unrelated reasons, our experience with Augustus makes it easy to recommend them to anyone contemplating an ambitious renovation on the Outer Cape.

> I purchased a 1965 ranch in Provincetown, MA that was in need of remodel. I interviewed 6 contractors and landed on Brian Hopkins and Augustus Construction. From the start he exuded a high level of enthusiasm for the project. Augustus started and finished within the original time frame. With the exception of some changes that I made, the project was also within the defined budget.
>
> This was my first renovation in P-Town but not my first go-around with a contractor (renovated and built several houses). By far, this was the best experience.
>
> Brian's relationships with his sub-contractors was really well managed. His expertise regarding construction was very impressive. Even though he served as the General Contractor/ Project Manager, he knew every nuisance of what should be done and how to manage the project.
>
> I am a type A guy, regardless of this, Brian was very patient. He also appropriately pushed back on me when the was a potential challenge with something I wanted. Regardless, every time he was spot on. The outcome could not have been better. I truly trusted him throughout the project.
>
> With the above in mind, I would highly recommend Augustus Construction. I am already planning Phase II and III - so get in line!!!

> We have had the great pleasure of working with Brian and his crew for several large projects on our vacation home. Brian was extremely responsive and responsible in getting the work done in a very timely manner, even using his fine judgment to make decisions that enhanced the quality and appearance of our project. Since we were mostly not on site during the construction, we were especially pleased to have a crew we could trust in every way.

> We have worked with Augustus Construction on large and small projects for many years. Their craftsmanship, attention to detail, respect for their work and for their clients has led us to call them for all our home improvement projects. They may not be the lowest bid on a project, but we have found that using well-chosen materials and working with some of the most skilled artisans on Cape Cod brings the best results. We highly recommend Augustus Construction.

> Exteriors (especially windows) of two rooms of my 19th Century farmhouse required repair/replacement. Augustus Construction reviewed the problem, designed/planned the repair/replacement, and performed the work with excellent results. Their special capabilities included: deep understanding of, and experience with, local homes and weathering; a positive, upbeat, understanding attitude; excellent technical skills and know-how; smooth work team interactions; and strict adherence to the agreed-on budget and work schedule. My work (relatively low-cost repair) had originally been scheduled for a winter date - one that instead brought unusual blizzard-like conditions. Despite the delay, Augustus performed the work during a busy period for the agreed-on budget and work period.

> Bedroom Suite over garage. Augustus provided design/build for a rebuilt one car garage with a beautiful master suite complete with porch, full bath and walk-in closet. The build quality is excellent and exceeded expectations. The team from Augustus broke ground on this project in December of 2014 and headed into the most severe winter on record with high winds and 6 feet of snow. Yet with those obstacles, they made a tremendous effort to stay on schedule and worked to move the project forward. Brian Hopkins managed the project and communicated clearly with us throughout. We highly recommend Augustus.

> Our experience of a renovation of kitchen and bath with this company was an overwhelmingly negative one. A 5 to 6 week job ended up taking 9 months. The owner was rude to our neighbours, both upstairs and downstairs; he was dishonest about the painting contractor he used (not a professional painter at all; terrible job); he caused delay after delay. The prices are exorbitant, and the contract we signed, which contained many "allowances" for items to be ordered (appliances, etc.), were never justified by showing bills to prove cost. He and his crew damaged our screen doors, broke a window, left us with electric sockets that no longer worked, and his response to fixing these things has been completely insufficient. We would never hire him again.

**Comment from Augustus Construction:**

> We have been in business for 33 years, providing the Lower Cape with the highest level of industry standards, and have had hundreds of happy satisfied customers over the years. We are proud of the services we provide, so we were very surprised to see this negative review.
> Throughout the project, we tried our best to accommodate the clients needs. But frankly, the clients extreme indecision on key aspects of the project led to many delays. Regarding the painter, he is indeed a professional painter that we have used for years. Concerning allowances, as is our policy, all invoices are forwarded to the client. We cannot be held responsible for damages to screens and windows, not caused by any neglect of our own.
> We actually received a call from a neighbor looking to use us for a remodel project.
> It is surprising that your reviews so harsh, when your email, dated 7/22/2015 states "The kitchen and bathroom is GORGEOUS. Thank you so much!!! You did a great job."
> We are proud of the work we did on this remodel, and it saddens us that it was such a negative experience for you.

> The best review is repeat business. I have now worked with Augustus on two major projects over the years, and would do it again. The projects were extremely different (new, contemporary construction with an architect vs. historical/antique restoration/renovation direct with homeowner) - they are flexible, creative and knowledgeable enough to be able to handle whatever is thrown at them. Great people, great time and budget management, great communication and follow-through.
