### Reviews

**★★ — Terrance Thy, Oct. 2023**

> Update: Kelly Roofing finally did end up reaching out to me and offered me an extension of the warranty on the roof, and $500.00. Additionally, they told me that they have made changes in the way they will handle similar things going into the future. While I can't say I'm entirely satisfied with the offer (given how they had acted earlier), it's only fair to update my review accordingly.)
>
> The following is a modified version of my original review:
>
> My initial experience with Kelly Roofing failed to impress due to the following reasons:
>
> 1\. They were explicitly told that there was a septic drainage field on the property and not to put anything heavy in the yard, as it can cause permanent damage to the septic drainage field.
>
> When they came to deliver the materials they used stabilizers in the front yard. It left about a foot deep hole in the yard. I happened to be there when they were delivering it and I took pictures, attached.
>
> Kelly Roofing's Response: It was a third party contractor that they hired and that I should take it up with them. Not sure how much damage it actually caused, but their response was disappointing.
>
> 2\. I believed them when they told me that a "private provider" would do a proper inspection of the roof. The "inspection" amounted to one of their employees sending a few photographs and a very short (less than a minute?) video call. I was there when they did it and documented it. While they have insisted this is standard, local practice, I can only tell you that I was not impressed.
>
> 3\. Ridge Shingles: Attached are pictures of the ridge shingles. I will let them speak for themself. Kelly Roofing's Initial Response: Well, it passed inspection. (See previous item.) They said if they cause a problem later, it's under warranty, and so the company will fix it then. (Update: They did end up replacing these shingles satisfactorily, and also gave me an extended warranty on them.)
>
> 4\. After it had passed their private party "inspection", another roofer informed me that insulation was preventing circulation through virtually all of the soffits! For those who don't know, circulation in a roof is a pretty "big deal". Improper circulation can lead to mold, premature failure of the roof, and it will void out any warranty from the manufacturer.
>
> If a roofing company discovers blocked soffits during the reroofing process, the appropriate course of action would be to pause the project, inform the homeowner, and discuss solutions for unblocking the soffits before proceeding. Long story short, Kelly Roofing did none of those things and their initial, sustained approach was to not take responsibility for it.
>
> (Update: Although it took them far too long to do so, the company did finally take some responsibility for what happened, as noted at the top of the review, hence the modification to the original review.)
>
> I have agreed to give the company another chance on another property and will update the review based on how that turns out.

**Comment from Kelly Roofing:**

> We greatly appreciate the time you've taken to articulate your concerns. It is with utmost consideration that we address each of the points you've raised:
>
> Damage to Septic Drainage Field:
> Upon thorough investigation, we consulted with our supplier, who clarified that the outriggers on their vehicles serve as stabilizers and exert insufficient pressure to cause damage to a septic drainage field. It's important to note that it is standard practice for suppliers to park their vehicles in the driveway for deliveries where they remain for the duration of the visit. Furthermore, we've reviewed pre-job commencement photographs, which indicate pre-existing damage to your driveway, as well as post-job photographs which show no new damage.
>
> Faux Inspection:
> We extend our sincerest apologies for any misunderstanding surrounding our inspection protocol. We acknowledge the paramount importance of a comprehensive examination. It is worth noting that a prevailing practice in most local municipalities is to conduct inspections via video conferences. Lee county does a virtual inspection program where contractors submit photos and videos via email for review. At Kelly Roofing, we strive to exceed expectations by enlisting the services of a professional engineer to meticulously assess the roof through this medium.
>
> Ridge Shingles:
> In response to the photos you provided which revealed a difference in the appearance of the ridge shingles in comparison to those featured on the Owens Corning website, we'd like to offer some pertinent information. Kelly Roofing provides a range of premium products, including the Duraridge shingles that you specifically selected. Given that these represent an enhancement, it's not uncommon for other contractors to have limited familiarity with them. It's worth noting that with the installation of these thicker shingles, immediate flatness on the ridge may not always be achieved. This is due to the fact that it can take between four to six weeks for the sun's heat to adequately warm the asphalt, facilitating proper settling. Although the initial installation was carried out in accordance with best practices, we understand your desire for a more aesthetically pleasing result. Consequently, we dispatched a crew to expedite this process, incurring no additional expense to you.
>
> Blocked Ventilation:
> We acknowledge the paramount importance of ensuring proper ventilation for the long-term integrity of your roof. We commend your diligence in bringing this matter to our attention. Upon your initial inquiry, you requested a quotation for a new shingle roof, without specifying insulation requirements. Subsequently, when the project commenced, our supervisor, Luis, engaged in a comprehensive discussion with you, clarifying that the insulation work was not encompassed within the scope of our initial estimate. Despite this, he reaffirmed our readiness to accommodate this aspect and provided you with a formal quotation. Regrettably, we understand that this proposition did not align with your preferences, leading us to proceed in accordance with the terms stipulated in the original contract. If you remain interested in pursuing this additional work, we are more than prepared to undertake it at the initially quoted price.
>
> Regarding the replaced plywood, our original contract did incorporate a provision for damaged wood, outlining the associated cost for each sheet requiring replacement. A specific estimated quantity, however, was not specified. When scheduling the original estimate appointment, you indicated an anticipation of substantial plywood replacement. In total, 26 sheets of plywood were ultimately replaced.
>
> Your feedback holds immense value for us, and we want to emphasize our unwavering commitment to treating these matters with utmost gravity. Our primary objective remains the delivery of superior service, consistently meeting the exacting standards of our esteemed clientele.

> Kelly Roofing is the best roofing company in Southwest Florida. We've used them for 3 different roof repairs and we wouldn't call anyone else. Their extremely professional, thorough and in constant contact with their customers. Sammy, Justine and Jamie are the best!!! Don't call any other roofer! You won't be disappointed.

> Irma damaged our tile roof. Kelly Roofing did a fabulous job from start to finish. The entire team from the office staff to the workers on the roof are experienced, courteous and helpful. The estimate including photos of the damage was in our hands before Kelly left the property thanks to the printer they have in their truck. Kelly's men came when they were expected and finished the roof on schedule. Hurricane Andrew damaged our shingle roof at another location.Kelly was our roofer then. Hurricane Wilma damaged the same roof and Kelly replalced it with tin. Now at our new home Hurricane Irma damaged our roof. Kelly Roofing does a great job no matter what kind of roof you may have.

> I have dealt with this roofing company since 2009. They have been excellent to deal with! I was a firefighter and contractor in Massachusetts. I had many questions about the roofing system they used and all my questions were answered in detail and I felt I was dealing with someone who knew what they were doing! When they started the job I couldn't believe how clean and detailed they were. They even put plastic down underneath there vehicles so no oil would damage our driveway. How great is that? They cleaned up everyday and made sure everything was secure before they left for the day. This company is the best in my opinion! I never had to "babysit" as I call it, because they always had a Foreman on site to make sure the job was done correctly! Kelly Roofing's core values our spot on! They truly do care about you as a customer and individual! Thanks for the opportunity to review such a GREAT company, Paul Silvia, Naples, Fl.

> After Hurricane Irma, I submitted an online request to Kelly Roofing for emergency roof repair. I had to include my credit card information in order to submit my request. A crew came out and nailed tar paper to a small area on the roof ridgeline where a few shingles had blown off. The entire emergency roof repair took approximately 30 mins. My credit card was then charged $900. I have repeatedly asked Kelly Roofing for an invoice showing the cost of materials and labor and never get any response from them. I literally have sent probably a dozen e-mails to the project managers, the project administrator and the office manager asking for clarification of the $900 charge and not a single one of them has responded. As a consumer I have every right to see a breakdown of charges including materials and labor. A charge of $900 for tar paper and 30 mins of labor is excessive and unfair and seems like price gouging to me.

**Comment from Kelly Roofing:**

> Janet,
> Since our computer systems were down immediately after the hurricane, we were unable to take photos of the work completed. The work completed of re-securing loose roofing materiel and covering areas of damage were priced at $300.00 per area with a dispatch fee of $600.00, which includes the first repair area. In your case there were two areas repaired. I have reviewed your job and all looks right in line with fair and standard pricing for the work completed. Insurance companies are actually paying more, but we kept our standard pricing and didn't increase after the hurricane.

> Do not use this company. The company sales team will tell you any lie they believe will get you to sign a contract. Then the work crew will do whatever they think is the easiest and fastest way to "complete" the job. Quality of workmanship doesn't matter to them. When you question them about what is going on, all of a sudden, their comprehension of English becomes very poor. Avoid this scam company at all costs.

**Comment from Kelly Roofing:**

> Steve,
> You stated numerous times that you recorded the entire inspection discussion and can show us where Greg "lied" to you. However, you refuse to let us prove that everything we stated we would do is what we did. You are suggesting that we were supposed to use membrane over the hip and ridge tiles. This request is not a detail approved in any way, by an manufacture or by any code body. It was not something we included in our agreement or stated we would due because it is not something ever done in roofing. In over 45 years in business, this is the first time I've ever heard it even suggested. Please understand that the work we performed was done in the highest level of workmanship and in full to our agreement. We can't even imagine what was said to lead you to think that item was even a part of our agreement since it is so bizarre in nature. It is hard to admit when a mistake is made, but stating slanderous accusations on various social media sites doesn't change the fact that you are not correct. Please allow us to meet and listed to your "full recording of the entire inspection discussion" so we can figure out where you misunderstood. Thank you. Kelly Roofing

> Great workmanship! Friendly crews! Finished each job completely same day. With the rain storms it pushed back the completion, however they finished the entire job, even doing some nailing in the attic in a reasonable time frame! Kudos Kelly Roofing! It looks gorgeous!!! Definitely within the quoted price!!

> I was a satisfied past customer until my 4 year old roof started leaking from an "unknown" cause. They would not honor the warranty and wanted almost $1000 to fix a 10x10 area. It also took them 6 weeks to come to this conclusion during rainy season. I waited over a week for call backs and had to get in touch with them in order to get a response. I am looking for another roofer who stands behind the product and offers timely customer service.

**Comment from Kelly Roofing:**

> Laurel,
> Unfortunately, our warranty would not cover termite damage. I hope you can appreciate that the roof did not have a problem that we caused and can understand why it's not covered under warranty. We appreciate the situation you are in and offered the roof repair for less than cost to help lower the burden. I suggest contacting an exterminator so the damage does not cause structural damages.

> Mine was a very small job.....Fix a few loose tiles and power wash the roof. Nevertheless, they treated me as though my work was just as important to them as any of their larger projects. They responded very quickly to my request for an estimate, kept me informed as to when the work would be performed and then performed the work in a very professional and courteous manner. I am quite satisfied with the work of Kelly Roofing and will use them again if the need arises.
