He came and discussed the process and sent a detailed and reasonable estimate right away. Work started promptly on the agreed date. Sam and his team who refinished our floors did a very careful and attentive job. They are obviously quite seasoned and experienced. They removed the extremely dark stain down to the original white oak floor boards, sanded between coats and cleaned carefully, and applied 3 total coats of oil based polyurethane. The transformation from ldark to light has been amazing. The finish has held up extremely well for 7 months which speaks to future longevity. We were very careful to allow the polyurethane to cure and harden completely before walking on the floors. I ran to one of the home centers and rented a sander thinking I'd get to it myself. I THOUGHT I had sanded it down properly (Ha!) There was a troubling middle area of the floor that had planks of wood running perpendicular to the rest of the floor and I knew it was beyond my level of skill to fix. Almost on a lark, I contacted Robert via Houzz to see if I could get a quote for refinishing the floors. He came by, immediately pointed out how the rest of the floor was misaligned from one side of the patch to the other and gave me a very fair quote to remove the patch, blend the wood back together reusing as much of the original wood as possible and then refinish the entire room. Not only that, he could have his guys start the following day. Two days, it took. These guys showed up on time both days, worked their butts off all day, and though the jokes were apparently flying (I heard them laughing out loud with each other), it was never at the expense of doing the job at hand. By the end of the second day, I had pristine floors that look as though they were newly installed. Better than new, in fact, since I knew where it all started! > > I can't recommend these guys highly enough. If there were more stars to give them, I'd have gladly done so.
