The brief was to provide an enclosed bedroom space, and update the kitchen on a limited budget. 9 foot high grey linen curtains define the room and an oak countertop wraps the new kitchen. Other materials are a range of textures and sheens of white. A new ceiling element defines an entry sequence with cropped views to mature trees. White roller shades on the north windows create privacy and a wonderful soft light.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Do they have wood trucked in?  And how many cords to ge thru a week?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Based on our usage, we go through a chord every two years.   It's only necessary to use the wood stove nov-april.  The rest of the time, the passive solar heating works.  The building is highly insulated.  In the winter, we go through about 7 logs per day to keep it warm.

**Q: I would like the name of the water based whitewash stain. Thanks** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: True North by Pacific Energy.  A super stove for performance and value.  Hardly have to clean the glass, simple operation, and very efficient use of wood.

**Q: What is the brand of doors/windows?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Are these folding glass doors or a slider system?

A: The windows are by Eagle, and supplied by Washington Window and Door.  Aluminum clad with pine interior finish.  They are patio sliders, not a folding door system.  We looked into this option, but the folding systems were much more expensive and many didn't offer the wood interior finish.  Also, the site can be quite windy, so the sliders give the option of partially opening them for ventilation and airflow.  Essential for those hot summer days.

A: The refrigerator is 75w x 24w x 24d, by Summit Appliance.  It has worked very well.  Efficient with good storage and a compact footprint.
