HISTORY As a teenager, Mitch worked alongside his stepfather, a field superintendent for a Detroit area builder. Mitch initially started with construction cleanup, eventually learned carpentry and other skills and, ultimately, experienced all facets of the business by the time he left for college. Mitch obtained his real estate and builder’s license and graduated from Central Michigan University in 1980 with a degree in business administration and finance. While working in a real estate office in Howell, a young couple came in needing to find a builder for their property in Milford, Michigan. “I said, ‘Hey, I’m a builder. I’ll build you a home.’ So I built them a 1,000 square foot ranch,” Mitch said. “That was the first house I built - $50,000. I still remember the sale price.” Mitch later found an investor and began to build spec homes in northern Brighton. “That’s when I started moving in them,” he said. The owner Mitch has integrity issues and will cheap out and blame others.We just had a water line leak in our front yard.The Twp. repaired it, they said it was a bad install (cross threaded fitting by MHB). When we asked MHB to repair the yard Ray said the Twp.was lying or the landscaper must have done it.Mitch after realizing this was his,said they would hand rake and throw dry seed at the side of a clay hill.Multiple landscapers told us that this would not work and was a poor repair.Proper repair would involve machine grading,top soil,and at a minimum hydroseed(all of which we had already done).When my wife and I asked Mitch about this proposed fix,he said that if we didn’t like it, we should sell our house and move out.The builder is incredibly difficult to work with, they charge a premium for a lack of accountability,there were numerous times we were told one thing and given another, changes occured that were not approved (15k daylight? see pic) . **★ — Scott Antcliff, Sept. 2019** > If I could give them negative stars I would. Worst purchasing experience I could ever imagine. Mitch cares about nothing but his money, and once he has it your on your own. Doesnt fix things that are wrong, doesnt respond to emails, doesnt respond to phone calls. Complete ignorance. Their "estimaters" tale 2 months to figure out a price, and usually have NO idea what your actually asking for. 2 ft of water at the end of my driveway every time it rains at all, cant get in or out with a standard car; has flooded the inside of cars 3 times now. Mud collects in the road which is then brought into the garage from cars which is then tracked into the house from shoes. Took 3 months for final grade on lot, and they wouldn't give me money they owed me until that was done. Wouldnt grade the lot like I wanted or bring in more dirt like I asked. Wouldn't do half the stuff I asked for on a "custom" home, and if they said they could do it they just priced it so high that no one would pay that anyways. A 3 year old could paint better than the inside is painted. Horrible office communication within company; I had to check EVERYTHING to make sure it was done as specified, and then they want to argue it wasnt specified that way. Tried to charge me for things that weren't done. Constant lies to cover their own mistakes. Constant promises that are broken. Constant timelines that are not met. The list goes on. Our foreman was responsive and thoughtful, and the office staff was bubbly and kind. We had several negotiation discussions that were not always pleasant, but were able to come to reasonable agreements every time. I think when folks are unhappy, they aren't reading their agreements thoroughly. This along with with the corresponding conversation should be done initially to prevent conflict as much as possible. Overall, the product is great and we could not be happier. We are nearing our one-year mark and we have several items that need to be addressed. We had decided to build as this was our retirement home and we didn't want to have to take money out of our retirement funds to pay for new furnace, roof, floor etc. In addition we designed the home to be barrier free- 36 in doors throughout, roll-in shower for two so we could roll a wheelchair in if need be in the future. Everything on the main floor we would need. Including a front door entrance that would not have any steps with the exception of the door threshold. > What we have: steps to the front door, repairs to the AC and furnace, roof leaks, plumbing issues on both toilets, both showers and all sinks, paint issues MHB could not/would not repaint our home so we are paying for that as well, wood/laminate floors that are cupping and splintering, cement porch crumbling, All in the first year! The first month we moved in we began our list of repairs and were told by Mitch to hold off until the 11th month. We did so reluctantly! They here were never fixed. > In addition we had 150 nail pops throughout the first floor int eh first 6 months. MHB staff came out, screwed the nail in and plastered over them. However, MHB does not come back and paint them. A month later they were all back. Finally we hired structural engineer who informed us in his written report how to repair the nail pops. Apparently MHB did not know how to repair this or just doesn't care once he has your money. > We had change orders on items that if they had been communicated in the beginning such as options we had there would have been less change orders. Mitch does not reply to email or phone calls. He does not reply with request either. In fact when I requested he send me a list of his contractors as we want to be sure we do not hire the contractors he used on our home he said he would help me if I removed my review on HOUZZ. I removed it yet he has not provided me with the information. So I am posting my review again. I will never recommend MHB. Initial planning of our project went reasonably well. Construction began and the overall schedule was on time. Even though this is a MHB plan there were minor issue with actual construction but those items were resolved. The issues that lead to the 2 Star rating involve poor business management practices; little to no communication and implementing changes without consulting the home owner that had a major financial impact. This probably should be a 1 star rating since I would not recommend. When we hired MHB we were looking for a general contractor to work with us on various details on a new construction project. In the end we dealt with an erogant contractor and subcontractors that changed plans previously agreed upon without any communication.
