**★★★★★ — Haver & Skolnick LLC Architects, June 2019**

> We recently had the pleasure of collaborating with Hoffman Landscapes on an extensive landscape installation for a client’s new pool house in Washington, Connecticut. The Hoffman team, led by Brian Cossari and Peter Lawrenia, worked seamlessly with the entire project team to source and install the very best plantings while still meeting the client’s budget. Despite an extremely tight schedule, they worked many long days to ensure that every detail was perfectly in place on time. They were a true pleasure to work with and we look forward to many more future collaborations.

> We tried other landscapers and were getting pretty discouraged until we found Hoffman. They’re different. Scott, our maintenance director actually listened to us and then gave us some great suggestions for our lawn and perennial beds. We like our yard to be party ready and now it is. What a pleasure working with a company that does what they say they will do!

> As a commercial photographer, my clients expect me to enhance their products and services through the lens. But a camera can only record what it sees. Shooting a property for Hoffman Landscapes is a pleasure because the crews understand the meaning of attention to detail. They go the extra mile for customers and it shows. The properties look beautiful because of the people who maintain them. If you look at the photos on their website, you’ll see what I mean.

> I find Hoffman Landscapes to be one of the top design and build landscape firms in New England. Their work is impeccable and they are extremely responsive to customer needs. They are also a great company to work with for other service professionals. Knowledgeable, courteous and extremely competent with a flair for out-of-the-box solutions. I would highly recommend them for your next project.

> Working with companies during the past 20 years, I have been exposed to a broad range of management styles. I have extensive hands on experience with many different sales teams in companies both large and small. The sales team at Hoffman Landscapes is first rate and professional. I can attest to it. What I find most unique about Hoffman is their dedication to customer satisfaction every single day of the year. They live the company’s commitment to service and truly care about their customers. It is no surprise they have one of the highest customer retention levels I have ever seen in business.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Beautiful trees!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would you please tell me what are the burgundy colored trees? Thank you!

A: The burgundy colored trees are Purple Leaf Plum Trees. These particular ones are non-fruit bearing.

**Q: Love the idea of the lighting in the sitting wall!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you let me know what type of lighting this is and whether it's mounted on the underside of the seat or on the wall itself? Also, how far apart would you recommend placing the lights? I love your portfolio of work!

A: That's great to hear! There are directional bullet lights shining up on the dwarf crab apple trees behind the wall, and underneath are the cap wall lights, which are shining down on the seat wall face. Light placement can vary depending on design, as well as your own preferences. Please feel free to give us a call is you have any other questions concerning outdoor lighting: (203) 834-9656.

**Q: Love the Fire Pit** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the idea of the fire pit with the gravel floor! Do you have the dimensions of the fire pit and the circular gravel floor? Are the gravel loose or have they been sealed down? Beautiful work!

A: The fire pit has a 3 foot inside diameter and a 5 foot
outside diameter.
The gravel area has a 14 foot diameter and the gravel is loose.
Thank you!

**Q: Trees** *(in Photo Questions)*

What type of trees are the 2 about center picture. They appear to be a pine

A: Thanks for the inquiry. I believe the plant in question is a Cryptomeria. Its botanical name is Cryptomeria japonica. Hope that answers your question. Bob Doerflinger, Landscape Designer at Hoffman Landscapes

**Q: Garden help pleas: how to make a maintenance free garden on a budget?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi there,
I need help and your advice to find a cheap, maintenance free garden? The grass we currently have is always damp and grows moss.
We have a small house and two small kiddies so we need to use the garden for play space. But at the moment it's impossible to go outside - damp, water logged.
We've looked into digging out a drainage system but it's so expensive. We live in a terrace house so access to garden is only through the front door.
We've asked a few landscapers to pave the whole garden (this would be ideal) but it's just so dear.
Would anyone have any suggestions?
45 sq metres.
Slight slope.
Thanks as always

The photo attached was taken on a very rare good day!

A: Consider using natural stone as opposed to concrete for a more organic look that addresses your problems as well.

**Q: Are you ready for the snow?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Snow BobCat is ready! It's getting round that time of year again.

Are you ready for this coming winter? What are you doing to prepare?

A: We sure are!
