She was great to work with every step of the way, always coming with ideas based on what we wanted, bringing samples for us to look at or meeting us at show rooms to check out counter tops, flooring, and tile. She is mindful of your budget but will also tell you where it is best to splurge in order to get the look you want without it looking cheap. She wasn't pushy and didn't make us feel forced to go with an option that she liked which I felt many other did, but instead always worked with us even if at times she had to help us see why our idea wasn't the best...this is why I recommend a designer, they think of things you didn't even know you needed to consider, from matching metal finishes on fixtures and appliances, to the color of grout for the floor and back splash, wanting just enough contrast between the counter and floor so they weren't competing....who knows how our kitchen would have turned out without her. Can you give the name and color? A: this was a custom color/custom vanity **Q: Niche Schluter not mitered - gap between sections - is this okay?** *(in Bathrooms)* Hello, we are in the process of bathroom renovation. Tile work and grout were completed this week. I am surprised that the schluter trim around the niche was not mitered, or at least cut flush. There is grout between the schluter pieces which makes the gap even more noticeable. In fact, that is the situation for all the outside edge corners of the shower, which are lined with the schluter. There is a lot of variation from slab to slab, but is a beautiful stone and the brushed finish dulls the pattern of the material down just a bit. This particular slab was selected because it had a single strong horizontal vein and a vertical one. However, there are a lot of slabs that have more and more varied veining. There is a lot of (sometimes conflicting) info out about quartz vs. granite when it comes to durability, as the durability for both materials varies from stone to stone. After asking a lot of pointed questions, the rep advised that the builder charges around a 50% mark-up on top of the design center's prices, which of course includes their profit margin as well. For a $12/sqft retail price mosaic band in the shower, they are charging $50-$60/sqft depending on the size of the mosaic: $500 for each 12" vertical mosaic or $310 for each 6" (we have 10 ft ceilings in the bathrooms). These prices seem crazy to me for 5 or 10 sqft of tile! I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it or not.
