It's very thin but does catch a fingernail. Fabricator says it's too thin for epoxy. This is a bathroom vanity which will be makeup and water headquarters. Waiting to hear a solution from the fabricator. Any advice? A: @Donna I assumed that the vanity counter is already installed and 'in use' meaning the drain on the sink is connected and the faucet as well. So, if the fabricator decides to take the vanity back to his shop to fix/fill the fissure and WET polish for a nice finish, THEN the plumber would have to disconnect drain/faucet...... **Q: Granite Seam Opinion - is this seam something to be "proud about" ?** *(in Design Dilemma)* When we mentioned how bad it looked - the color seems much lighter (because of the natural aspects of the stone) it the seam very very obvious and in a prominent location, right in the corner where the peninsula meets the counter AND there seems to be an "arrow" pointing to it! When we told the installer that it looked terrible - pictures were taken and reviewed. The response was that - they "felt the installer did a great job given what he was working with". Furthermore we were told that: "There is no matching veins to that end piece because of how long your counter top is. The slab was not long enough. So we had to take a lower part of the slab underneath where we cut originally for the sink run, and try to find the best piece to match it. There is no matching piece, so it wouldn't be matching anyway. " ....and also " Any fabricator I think would be very proud of that job." and they were "proud of the job and they would take pictures and post them. Which is what I would like to do" So I ask are they right? It's a source of pride and post-worthy? We were unaware that there was any issue at all. We were not told that someone was going to do the best with what they were working with. Had we been told there was any issue - we would have chosen another slab or at least known about the shortcomings. Am I being to picky ? Is my disappointment unwarranted? Is this the best we should expect? A: I don't see anything wrong with the seams at all. Right now you are fixated on the seam because you know it's there. The back seam at the faucet hole will be barely visible once the faucet is installed. The front and side seam are perfectly fine.... there are so many 'so called professionals' that install counters with seams much more apparent then the ones you have. Most important is that they are leveled at the seam and the seam is completely filled with epoxy. **Q: FRAMED to FIREPLACE!** *(in Before & After)* Kitchen opens up into living area with fireplace and tons of built in's...per the request of the homeowner! A: Nice design! **Q: Need help with tile backsplash + outlet** *(in Design Dilemma)* I am not sure how I should handle this. I plan on doing backsplash in the kitchen very soon. Should I go past the edge of the cabinet to the end of the wall? I am not sure it would look right having the outlet half in the backsplash and half out. A: The metal trim is a Schluter edge https://www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en\_US/Profiles/For-Walls/c/P-FW any competent installer will recommend that to you. Instead of stopping on the cabinet or wall, and pending on the tile size you chose, maybe stagger the tiles like steps going down? or a rough edge (pending on the tile material) Unless your kitchen design is modern and very streamlined, then end the tile at the wall corner. **Q: Super Thread on Countertop seams** *(in Polls)* Please be advised that not all of these seams are done by my facility. Some of these are repairs to seams we have done. I am going to post on this thread often with pictures of seams, good and bad. And let the pros and HOUZZ-ers decide what you guys like vs. don't like. First up.... A simple "builder grade" granite A: @paddykk There are jumbo slabs available from most fabricators of manufactured slabs such as Cambria, Silestone, Ceasarstone, ETC.... although most are limited to 10' in lenght. That said, I worked with natural stone as well as manufactured for over 15 years before starting to work with concrete. No matter how good the fabricator is with 'busy' materials (veining, patterns...) a seem will always be visible at least to you because you KNOW where it is and your eye automatically will look for it. So, the trick is to make it a design feature instead.... use a transition material in between or just change colors/materials completely. **Q: Granite Seam - Good or bad?** *(in Polls)* What do you think of this seam in Taupe Grey Granite? Good or Bad? Why!? A: Well it's hard to tell which of the sections are seamed in your counter pic. It appears that the slabs are either not in continuous slab numbers as the veining should not shift that dramatically from one to the next slab or even from different lots. Also, if the bar counter (assuming the long rectangle below the large L-shape) would have been cut from a different slab the seam of the L-piece could have been moved downwards to move the same in the 'calmer' area which is then easier to match.....
