The Formica was showing its age and we wanted to replace our laminate floors (installed about. 10 years ago. It was a pretty major remodel taking out two walls to open our family room, kitchen, dining /living room area - the first floor of our tri level home. Jillian and mike were quick to respond to our questions and ideas. We stayed close to our budget and the end product is we have a beautiful updated kitchen and living area. The granite countertops are gorgeous as well as the kentwood hardwood (acacia) floors. We are loving every bit of it! **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > We are happy to hear you are loving your remodel and Golden Rule appreciates you putting your trust in us for your big project. Thank you for your review! **★★★★★ — Linda Kubler, Nov. 2014** > Being a newcomer to the world of remodeling, the team from Golden Rule went beyond my expectations. My newly purchased home presented several serious exterior challenges. CEO and Interior Designer, Jillian, along with Lead Carpenters, Mike and Carl, immediately came to inspect. They agreed there was moisture under new paint as signs revealed where it had happened before, suspected dry rot but couldn't tell how extensive until removing siding. Yes, my roof was sagging and dropped 2". A pressured cedar beam had a gapping crack and should not have been used. During the demolition other issues appeared. > > Knowing this was my first experience, Jillian was extremely professional with details and openly cooperative when changing the number of windows to install. > > Mike and Carl are incredibly meticulous to detail, talented individuals who really love what they do. > > I would not hesitate for one moment recommending this fine company. **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > Thank you Linda for putting your trust in Golden Rule. We are happy to help! Thank you for your review! **★★★★★ — lozomartin, Nov. 2014** > Since the day I started working with Golden Rule Remodeling I have been impressed with their quality, workmanship, and overall business like approach. They are extremely reliable and easy to work with. I have total confidence to recommend them to anyone. **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > Thank you for reviewing Golden Rule, we feel the same way about you and the services you provide. We are grateful that we get to work with you! **★★★★★ — sharonawilson, Nov. 2014** > The fireplace project was the culmination of a remodel of the whole house that began in 2010. The transition from a bulky, clunky fireplace that screamed the 1970's to a contemporary and timeless work of art delighted us. Golden Rule Remodeling was the key to the process. > > None of us were sure what was under the massive fake rocks, so we agreed that we would have a wide estimate for the cost of the project. Mike tackled the dismantling with his usual calm assurance that whatever the stuff was, we would get it off and not damage the two year old hardwood floor they had installed previously. The care both Mike and Karl took was excellent. Karl's suggestion that we frame the slate border surrounding the fireplace to match the border around the entry slate was perfect. The pair of them are skilled and professional. > > Designer Jillian has been able to make the bathroom projects coordinate with the kitchen project, and the floor project, and the fireplace project making it seem to be just small parts of an overall plan. Jillian listens to clients carefully and helps us make good decisions. If she thinks we are headed toward a bad choice in granite, she lets us know that she thinks we might want to consider another option. We were never left to flounder. She also stayed very flexible when we fell in love with the sandstone and decided to go with it rather than any of the slate options we had been looking at. She also quickly revised the project estimate since the sandstone was more expensive that any of the slate options. > > We were given time estimates that were followed, or informed of any alterations in the timeline. Any delays we experienced were caused by supply availability. The cost estimates were accurate. Anytime we requested additional modifications (floor electrical outlets) we were presented with a Change Order showing the additional costs. There were no surprises about cost, time, or sub-contractors. > > We would not keep going back to a company in which we did not have total confidence. **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > The Golden Rule Team is very thankful that we continue to have you as clients, it makes our job so enjoyable. Working on your remodeling projects has always been a pleasure. Thank you for your detailed review! **★★★★★ — austin2685, Nov. 2014** > Golden Rule has done a couple of projects: 1. we had a complete bathroom remodel and 2. kitchen remodel with updates throughout the home inside and out. > > Our home was built in 1974 so over the years we have slowly been updating our home with various Remodeling companies. Then we found Golden Rule. Golden Rule takes care of everything. Our bathroom remodel was smooth from start to finish. They had wonderful suggestions we never thought of. They make picking out finishes easy with a large selections and options. The job plan is laid out clearly with an organized notebook provided showing dates of completion. They were efficient, clean and quality craftsmanship every step of the way. Communication was excellent and always stayed in touch. If I called and left a message, they promptly called back. We felt so comfortable using Golden Rule. Having used them for two projects we are making lists for more updates for our home using Golden Rule. They are the best. **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > Golden Rule appreciates your business, thank you for all of your positive feedback. We look forward to working with you again on your next remodeling project! **★★★★★ — mgiles2222, Nov. 2014** > As an experienced sub contractor I have worked with many remodeling > general contractors over the years. I have found that Golden Rule's > standards and performance are some of the highest I have encountered. Their belief in solid relationships with their trade partners and dedication to customer quality make our jobs easier and very rewarding. **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > Thank you so much for your kind words. Golden Rule truly enjoys working with you and your team! **★★★★★ — prwillhite, Nov. 2014** > The crew was respectful, worked well with us, gave great suggestions, and we are very pleased with our new bathroom. They did a lovely job on our kitchen in 2013, we hired them again for our new bathroom. **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > We loved working with you again on your bathroom remodel and the Golden Rule Team appreciates your business, thank you for your feedback! **★★★★★ — patchjacket, Nov. 2014** > We are so pleased with the excellent service and workmanship provided by this team of professionals. Every detail we asked about was listened to and resolved. Timelines were either met or explained all throughout the kitchen project. We always felt like our project was important to them. > There are always "unknowns" when remodeling an old house and as these came to light the team was with us all the way discussing the problems and proposing alternate resolutions. > > We hadn't planned on tearing out the walls of the kitchen until the electrician discovered old, out of code, probably home hobbyist electrical wiring. Off came the walls and the electrical was done correctly. We knew from the beginning that the walls were not plumb and the flooring was uneven without square corners. Golden Rule compensated for these problems beautifully with craftsman like skill and concern. **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > We strive to make the remodeling process enjoyable for our clients, so hearing that you are pleased with your experience makes us happy! Thank you for your review! **★★★★★ — bkahne, Oct. 2014** > My husband and I met Jillian Renner in January 2014 while visiting the home show at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. We were there to talk to remodeling professionals and get an idea about who we would like to work on our project. Jillian seemed friendly, upbeat, resourceful and interested in providing us with the very best design to fit our needs. Over the next few months we met with her several times to talk about the kitchen design and develop ideas, review plans, and discuss costs, timing, etc. She is very creative and brought several design elements to the plans that we feel really makes our kitchen special. > > Golden Rule conducts business in a very professional manner. We were presented with a complete timetable for each segment of the project, projected costs, what we should expect from them and what they expected from us throughout the process. Every step was laid out in writing so there were no unpleasant surprises. They also offer a very unusual 5 year warranty on their work which we felt was a valuable asset and gave us added confidence in hiring them. > > The staff at Golden Rule were very accommodating to our needs as far scheduling segments of the construction to have as little impact as possible on our daily lives. > > Everyone on the staff at Golden Rule is easy-going and fun to have around. Mike and Karl are both excellent carpenters and problems solvers. They were always very quick to address any concerns that we as the homeowners had and did their very best to make our "dream kitchen" all we hoped it would be. > > The kitchen is beautiful, we are very happy with the results, and would hire Golden Rule again for any future projects. **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > Thank you for writing such a detailed review about your experience with Golden Rule, it's wonderful to hear! We are so glad that you're happy with your kitchen remodel, it was such a fun project and great working with you both! **★★★★★ — jdogrso, May 2014** > I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you, Jillian. We are sooooo happy with our remodel and want to share that so here goes! > > " We had heard very positive comments about the work that Golden Rule did and contacted them to have a conversation and and discuss ideas about remodeling our kitchen and eating area. Jillian really listened to us and took our likes, dislikes and budget to heart. When she showed us the three remodeling options along with a budget for each it expanded our vision of what was possible. She has a marvelous sense of style but she also LISTENS to her clients to meet their needs. The final product was far more functional and attractive than we what we had envisioned. In addition the lead carpenter and crew kept us informed of their progress, were quite tidy (all things considered) and minimized the disruption to our daily lives ( even with the refrigerator in the living room!). They also held to their estimated budget and time estimate give or take a week. > We would hire Golden Rule again with no reservations. > Rick and Jean O'Grad **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > It is so nice to receive positive feedback to let us know how we are doing. We are happy you enjoyed the process as much as we did! Thank you so much for the lovely review! **★★★ — Jeanne Fredrickson, May 2014** > There were some glitches and mistakes made but all were remedied and our kitchen/mudroom/utility area is amazing. We love it. Jillian was especially helpful in the design process. We have been in our home 35 years, we should have done this 20 years ago! **Comment from Golden Rule Remodeling & Design Inc.:** > We are so glad you are enjoying your remodel and your patience is greatly appreciated, thank you Jeanne! **★★★★★ — User, May 2014** > We are consulting with Jillian on an expansive kitchen project and master bathroom remodel. We examined numerous examples of her work and find her to be very knowledgeable particularly, in terms of technicality... who knew designers were such nerds!! Jillian's industrious nature and suggestions have narrowed scope of our project plan to meet our budgetary requirements. We find Jillian to be very credible and have also been told so by past customers. We are very excited to have the weight bearing beams modified in order to expand the kitchen and display the luxurious nature of the materials we've chosen. Jillian's creativity defies physics and the sight lines are dramatic!! The new lighting will give our home the coveted Veranda Magazine feel. We are so excited to have these projects complete to enjoy with friends and family! ## Selected projects - [Classic Blue and White Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/classic-blue-and-white-kitchen-pj-vj~6135598) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 7 - Description: "Golden Rule Remodeling worked quickly to organize and schedule our kitchen remodel and booked excellent subcontractors for our project.
