Carolina Timberworks crafts timber frame and post and beam work and we install anywhere in the United States. What makes this practical is the way we build our timber frames: we fabricate and carefully fit your timber framing in our shop, take it apart, label each piece, and deliver it to your site–where it goes together surprisingly quickly because we send the same craftspeople who spent weeks cutting and fitting your timber frame in our shop to your site to professionally install it.

> I used Carolina Timberworks for a large remodel project that involved extensive and challenging details. From design to install, I had an incredible experience working with these guys. Extremely professional, courteous, and thorough. The superintendent who was stationed on the job (who has been remodeling for over 30 years) would constantly tell me how impressed he was with their crew. From the top-down, they really know what they're doing. Their turn-key operation made it extremely easy on my end as I never had to worry about a thing, they would always honor their word in regards to schedule, design, etc. And anyone who is a Project Manager know how much of a value that is. I have never posted a recommendation on Houzz before but I was so impressed with this outfit that I had to share this experience. And, of course, the finished product was absolutely beautiful (see picture attached). There's really no other team to use in the business.

> We could not be more pleased with the level of service and care Eric M, Eric O, and the entire CTW crew put into our project. Our project was not without its challenges as we had issues with the stain color being inconsistent, this is where I think the integrity of CTW was exemplified. They worked to make everything right and did not stop until we were completely satisfied. I would highly Recommend CTW for any project!

**Comment from Carolina Timberworks:**

> Annette, we are so proud to have provided the timber framing for your and Rob's strikingly beautiful new home. From the first time we met you and your sons at our shop, to my latest site visit to admire the progress, you two have been some of our favorite clients. Although we'd prefer nothing go wrong, things can, and do go wrong. We've been told that the way we handle problems is one of the things that differentiate Carolina Timberworks–and it's nice to hear that our efforts to remedy problems are appreciated.

**★★★★★ — Brian, Nov. 2015**

> Spivey Construction is a custom home builder in the Lake Norman, NC area. We've worked with Carolina Timber Works on smaller a project consisting of a custom Pecky Cypress fireplace mantle, a detailed project in Denver, NC using interior and exterior heavy timbers, to a larger complex project in Mooresville, NC consisting of a reclaimed custom beam package. You won't find a better company. From the start of quoting and details during the estimating phase, providing detailed drawings for the sign off phase, and the actual installation, we've had happy clients on every job thanks to Carolina Timber Works. They return calls, keep open line of communications, and stick by your side until the project is completed and after.

**Comment from Carolina Timberworks:**

> Brian, I doubt that a timber frame subcontractor has EVER received a nicer review! In response, may we say that all the nice things you said about Carolina Timberworks apply equally to Spivey Construction.

**★★★★★ — dsulli3, Nov. 2015**

> I am building a house in Blowing Rock, NC. It is a timber frame structure, SIP panel, geothermal, solar panel BARN.
>
> Carolina Timberworks was my first choice. They are astonishingly good. The big timbers were delivered on Tuesday along with a trailer. Wednesday morning found the job site crawling with hardhats. Thursday at 7am, a crane arrived and by 7pm, the timber frame was complete. Friday was odd. The only trace they left was a pine tree hanging on the western peak of this astounding structure.
>
> Obviously there are steps that you take before and after the timber frame, but I found the planning stages interesting and informative.
>
> I expect that you will find the price a bit uncomfortable, the workmanship master level and the product as promised or better.

**Comment from Carolina Timberworks:**

> Doc...what can we say except that we LOVED working with you. Thank you!

**★★★★★ — rbowers72, Oct. 2015**

> When we selected Carolina Timberworks as our partner on a high profile job we knew we were in great hands from the beginning. With detailed drawings that reflected the pricing to redesigning some aspects to make the pieces fit the real world job site that we live in as Contractors. Structurally there is no room for improvement and professionally I would say the same they have anticipated and bent over backwards to make sure we loved the material , the finish and finally the assembly. Great partners and we will definitely be working together again soon.

**Comment from Carolina Timberworks:**

> Robby...thank you for your extremely kind words. We love working with your team, and we appreciate the confidence you've placed in Carolina Timberworks over the years. With respect to the reclaimed wood beams in your current high profile project...we're reminded of Tedd Benson's words in The Timber Frame Home: "Those who make good buildings are always both rewarded and humbled. When the work is done, or when pieces of it are completed, more often than not we stare in wonder at our own creation because our best work always contains more intelligence, beauty and nobility than we ourselves can summon".

**★★★★★ — DuaneDesign.com, Oct. 2015**

> Carolina Timberworks is a professional design associate with us, fabricator, and an installer of fine timber architecture. They have performed in all three phases with me as I work through the designs of projects. I was the project manager for a speciality pavilion for a client in South Carolina and Carolina Timberworks was a major player in the success of the project. From choosing the wood, inspecting the fabrication procedure with the client so they were comfortable with the product before we had it finished. We were able to make and fine tune design decisions all the way on a very sophisticated project. I look to Carolina Timberworks as a design associate when I have ideas for homes, barns, pergolas, and other ancillary structures. I am grateful for their reviews and their craftsmanship. I can not wait to work together on the next project with them. Duane F. Christopher, PLA, ASLA

**Comment from Carolina Timberworks:**

> Duane we loved working with you on this extraordinary White Oak timber frame pavilion. I know that the Owners call it "The Shed", but we like to think of it as a fabulous open air Party Barn! Love how beautifully it is aging and fitting into your landscape design.

**★★★★★ — Terranera Family Builders LLC, Aug. 2015**

**★★★★★ — ricklauer, July 2015**

> Carolina Timberworks far surpassed my expectations. The craftsman who came out on-site were curteous and always listened to my customer. The quality of the timber work was unmatched, the professionalism and focus on detail was astounding. I have built many Homes over the years with timber construction but Carolina Timberworks out did themselves. I would recommend Carolina Timberworks without question! I guess the only thing I can say is Quality all the way thru the process. Lastly thanks to Eric and Eric for a job well done.

**★★★★★ — David McKinnon, June 2015**

> Eric Morley and his quality team of craftsmen at Carolina Timberworks did an AWESOME job at retrofitting our remodeled mountain home to create a Timber Frame Home look and feel!
>
> I can not recommend anyone higher and would use them again!

> David McKinnon

**★★★★★ — Judd Builders, April 2015**

> Judd Builders really collaborating with Carolina Timberworks for various reasons. They are extremely skilled, meticulous and creative, and it shows in the high quality timber they deliver. Their team takes pride in their craftsmanship and we would recommend them to anyone building a home.

**Comment from Carolina Timberworks:**

> John, from your first call to the day we finished erecting the timber frame, we thoroughly enjoyed working with you and your team. Can't wait to take photographs of a party in what will be one of the most beautiful timber frame Party Barns anywhere!

**★★★★★ — mcguiregd, March 2015**

> Carolina Timberworks Crew,
>
> First off, I would like to thank each and everyone who was involved in the first phase of the Whittaker's timber frame. The entire process went smoothly and went off without a hitch, from design, coordination, and the installation. Everyone who arrived on the job was prepared and took the bull by the horns and really preformed flawlessly. The Douglas Fir timbers were spot on and the joinery looked perfect. Thursday afternoon Dr. Whittaker came out to the job to take a look at the trusses and he was so excited and blown away he kept taking pictures and saying wow this is amazing. His exact words were," The joinery in the beams are perfect, I'm in love with these timbers, they're bitchin!" To me a reaction like that is what it's all about and why we do this line of work. Thank you for making our homeowners day, and once again this job illustrated the craftsmanship, pride, dedication, and reputation that Carolina Timberworks holds. I look forward to working with y'all on the next phase of the Whittaker's.

> Thank You,

 - Description: Timber frame porches provide shade, protection from wind and rain, and often perfectly frame a view. In a sense, they're a bit like the cardboard boxes we played in as a child–a safe, protected place from which to look out at the world. Of course, the analogy tends to fall apart a bit when these outdoor living rooms incorporate a fireplace...

## Community Q&A

**Q: interior designers?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Whom was the interior designer?

A: Lyndzie, I'm sorry but we don't know who the interior designer was.

**Q: Love the rock! Is it River Rock? River Boulders ??** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Cyndi--no, the rock isn't river rock, but individually selected natural boulders--although river rock would work just as well if locally available.

**Q: RoughSawn product** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am using these beams over the front door arch exterior as well as the posts on front porch... I'm looking for a medium to dark grey stain? Can u suggest?

A: Hi! We're pretty good timber framers, but not finishing experts! I'd suggest taking a sample piece of your timber to your local paint store and ask them to make you a couple of samples--in a high-quality semi-transparent stain.

**Q: dimensions of room** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you provide dimensions of room and wall and ceiling height? Thank you beautiful room

A: Holly, thanks for your compliment. This timber framed Great Room is 21' 6" wide and 30' 6" long. The ceiling height is just shy of 19'.

**Q: Beautiful room!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Thank you for your helpful information on trusses. I'm wondering about the ceiling. What material is it and what colour?

A: Sylvia, our role was limited to providing the Oak timber frame trusses shown in the photograph so I'm sorry but I don't know the species of ceiling material or the specific color.

**Q: wood type and finish** *(in Photo Questions)*

Beautiful!
What type of wood was used for timbers and decking and what kind and color of finish was used?
We are starting a hemlock timber frame pavillion next month and I need to choose a stain. I love the finished color of this project!
Thanks in advance!

A: Hi Tara! Thanks for your kind words. I don't know the finish, but do know that these timber frame trusses are Western Red Cedar. We've not built any timber frames from Hemlock, but I feel certain that a good paint store could come up with a similar color for your timber framing.
