The owner, Josh, provided us with excellent design that makes the most efficient use of the space in our kitchen. Communication with Nick and Josh is easy for the most part and they were very good at accommodating our busy schedule as working parents with a toddler. They were also able to meet with our aggressive timeline to finish both kitchen and family room remodel (including fireplace) in just over a month. > > However, there are a few areas that could be improved during the process. First, Blank Page could have better informed us that the contract price was the minimum cost and there might be significant additional cost for items not included in the initial contract. For example, a range of typical prices would have been helpful for our budgeting. Second, there was a lack of communication at the end where we had to keep a running list of items that need to be done to make sure they were actually done. Josh is a design visionary with the excitement, knowledge, skill, dedication and belief in the BPDB team to make that vision a reality, and also ensure the project is code current. Four days later he returned with a fabulous proposal and the contract was signed. Within 13 days of the initial meeting we were at MSI to select the tile and counter top. A couple of days later I expanded the contract to include remodeling the main floor power room. The beautiful white marble countertops are the same in both baths.The cabinetry for both baths is exceptional - hall bath has a stunning expresso vanity with two large drawers and the powder room has beautiful white raised panel doors. All plumbing fixtures are the same style. The laser fit mirrors and embedded light fixtures are beautiful and enhance the each space. Both spaces now have dedicated lines for the GFI outlets. The Blank Page Design Build team completely gutted the upstairs bath and transformed it from sad to AMAZING! The powder room became an ELEGANT space. > > Communications were excellent during the project. Both Josh and Nick of BPDB kept me up to date on everything, and also researched and quickly responded to all my questions. The electrician couldn't help but notice the significant difference in temperature between the first and second floors of my home. He checked in the attic and found that the gable fan had stopped working and could not be repaired. He called Josh who called to tell me of the problem and the cost to fix it (also including a light which is now code). I authorized the work and payment over the phone and via a follow up email. Would these go with my other wood chairs? A: In my opinion, not quite since the back of the new chairs are round while your wood chairs are square. In regards to color they appear to be a good blend with your walls and floor. It also looks like the wood chairs have cushions on them that are a similar color to the new chairs which is good. Could you find a similar version with a square back? **Q: Window Treatments** *(in Design Dilemma)* What to use for privacy for a large window over a fireplace? A: Are you asking if you should choose blinds or curtains? Can you post a picture? **Q: Paint on picket fence** *(in Design Dilemma)* what paint finish would you use on picket fence? flat or satin? A: Flat is considered to give a more sophisticated look, it kind of gives off a modern or contemporary style with its soft, velvety look. It is however hard to clean. I'd recommend satin, it has a low shine and isn't too reflective of the sun but is great for cleaning and is more durable to the elements. **Q: Help! Need to choose a carpet color today** *(in Flooring)* We are replacing the carpet in our sunken living room off the kitchen and need help choosing a color. We would like to go with a beige that coordinates well with other permanent structures in the space; fireplace, granite counters, hardwood floors, paint color, etc. any advice is much appreciated!! I got valuable advice on here a few days ago with some polyester samples we had but we have decided to go Nylon instead, and the sale on the carpet brand we have chosen ends tomorrow. Thanks! A: Sounds great, if you wanted you could even add a coffee table or small lamp tables that match the fire place mantle shelf or the hardwood floors for blending. **Q: What is the most timeless shade of hardwood floors?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Light, medium, medium/dark, or dark? Hand scraped? 5 inch? Thanks. A: Somewhere between a medium and medium dark in 5 inch is the most traditional and can pair with almost any style. Hand scraped can give off a rustic style which may conflict with any future design changes you wish to make. **Q: What is the name of this shingle??** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are trying to figure out what this color and style of shingle is and cannot figure it out... anyone know of anything close?? A: These are dimensional shingles(a style of asphalt shingles) that are either in the color of silver birch, birchwood, or fox hollow gray.
