> Disappointed in how their team managed a special order and subsequent return policy. Several thousand dollars spent at this shop so the customer service provided was a big let down.

**Comment from Rubble Tile:**

> We have numerous custom lines that offer unique looks. We carefully walk customers through the detailed order process, which may include ordering control samples. Because they are specific to a customer's request, custom orders cannot be returned.

 - Description: This was a beautiful makeover to a bath that was vastly disconnected and underutilized. We kept the overall footprint, but made the fixtures more functional. The vanity base was custom made to fill every nook and cranny of that wall. The tub was replaced to a freestanding, which is not only more interesting and attractive, it is actually something the homeowner enjoys using. The shower was opened up so that we could add a bench and multiple head functions. All the finishing elements that we chos…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Kitchen Backsplash** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am trying to pick a backsplash that will go with black granite counters with brown splotches and White Kitchen cabinets,

I know so many go with white subway but I find the ones I have tried make the cabinets look yellow...

A: Backsplashes can be among the most difficult places to select tile because the sky's the limit! Almost anything can go on a backsplash. One way to approach the daunting array of options is to go for something that offers some contrast with the cabinets, some contrast with the countertop, but that is alway relatively quiet, classic, non-busy. Notice how the paint color you have on the walls gives some contrast with your cabinets and your countertops. That color makes the cabinets and wood trim around the windows stand out as beautiful architectural details. This also takes you out of the endless search for a white tile that will always look right with your cabinets; even if you find a tile that looks like exactly the same white as the cabinets in a certain type of lighting, it will likely look "off" when the light changes.

**Q: Patterned gray tile?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Please tell the name of the patterned gray tile?

A: Glad you like it! That is the Siena series from AlysEdwards in the "Ice" color.

**Q: Stool** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the source for the rope/rattan-top stool w/the copper legs? I love it! Thanks!

A: We will look into that and see if we can find out!

**Q: Help picking backsplash** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am having trouble picking a backsplash for my kitchen. I have white cabinets and a busy granite. I don't want to pick a backsplash and regret it later. My husband wants something busy but I don't want a backsplash that takes attention from my granite. Someone help!!!

A: One thing that comes to mind is that, among the options shown, at least one is a marble mosaic. Marble is much more porous than your granite countertop; it is soft; and it is vulnerable to acids. If your splash goes behind your cooktop, options of marble, travertine, or limestone should be thought through very carefully.

And those tiny little mosaics have been very hot for the last few years. That may mean that in a few years they could look dated. Consider a solid ceramic. It could be a subway tile, or a different brick-like proportion, a square, anything that appeals to you. Given your beautiful choice in granite, you could consider a deep grey, which would give some striking contrast to your cabinets, or a medium to light grey. If you pick a grout color close to the color of the tile, that will create a quieter effect than a high contrast grout. Both the high contrast and low contrast options for the color of your tile can still let your granite top have center stage!
These photos are not all of backsplash installations, but maybe they will help as you consider your options!

**Q: Love this combination. What is the countertop?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Sorry! Can't tell you what the countertop is; we didn't spec it and don't have that info.

**Q: Are glass tiles still in style?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I bought 4 boxes of glass tile squares to put on the back wall of a large shower 4 years ago at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. We are in year 6 of our housebuilding project and now I am concerned they might be out of style!

A: It's a pretty mosaic. Are those metal frames around some pieces? If so, it's best not to install them in a wet or hot area. They can tarnish and/or fall off.
