**Q: Can I mix two different laminate countertops** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am remodeling my kitchen and I am painting my cabinets in a light blue Sherwin Williams &quot;Watery&quot; and the island cabinets will be a dark navy blue.  I want to use Wilsonart laminate in Trinidad Lapidus for the main counters and Retro Dungaree (I know this is rather busy but I love it!)  for the Island.  So the Trinidad will be on the light blue cabinets and the retro will be on the navy blue island.  I know that they are not a perfect match but I have been reading that islands are starting to be treated differently than the rest of the kitchen.  Please tell me if this is a big mistake. 
The backsplash is a cement tile called Circulos A Cielo.  The floors will be LVP Mohawk True Design in Sandstorm which is a very light blond wood.
I have been in my home for 18 years and plan to be here a lot longer.  Thank you for any advice!

A: Hi Trina, Sometimes it is difficult to visualize the materials in the space. All those countertops are very nice alone but when you mix them together it might not give you a good result. I would advise you to have a 3Dimensional model of your kitchen with those materials before any renovation that is the cheapest way to visualize your design. **Q: Help: should I keep pantry or have a more open concept??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are in the process of designing our home and are having some trouble. We like the idea of having a pantry very near the kitchen. However in this current design the pantry is located in between the kitchen and dining room. we are afraid of it taking away from an open concept. 
Just need some help thinking this through. Should we keep the pantry where it is and have a more closed off kitchen and dining room or should we remove the pantry/closet to create that open concept? 
Do you guys find a pantry essential? 
We are newlyweds and Don’t have any kids yet, but hope to start a family in the near future!

A: Hi Prisci, I think the kitchen triangle which is a stove, sink and fridge are not in the right position, I think you should reconsider the island as well, what is behind the island? is it your breakfast area or family room?
The pantry in the kitchen is very useful especially when you have kids or guests because you always have a decluttered countertops and as nwduck said you will not worry about any mess in your kitchen but it is totally optional! if you like to have a minimal design and you do not have lots of cooking tools you can make the corridor wider to have an open space. Just make sure to change your kitchen layout. If you need a new layout please let me know or contact me at info@paroxstudio.com or ask your designer/architect to revise it for you.

**Q: Bathroom reno - paint color & hardware** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are renovating our kids/guest bathroom. 
I’ve included a picture of the vanity and tile. The herringbone tile will serve as an accent in the shower. The shower will have a teak wood floor. 
Here’s where I’m stuck. I wasn’t planning on tiling the bathroom walls. I was just going to paint them but now I’m second guessing my decision. Should I tile the wall behind the vanity? If I paint, what color would you suggest? Also, what do you think about black hardware?

**Q: Which rug would you choose for this living room??** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hello Fellow Houzzers, 

I am in need of your thoughtful input! I need help choosing which rug I should get. I was also thinking of maybe a Persian rug as an option. 

I just ordered the sofa, large cocktail ottoman, and throw pillows with the noted fabrics indicated below. The wood legs of the sofa will be the same wood as the gray chair in the picture. 

Which rug(s) would you recommend: Rug 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or something else??

A: Hi, I like 2,3, and 10 because the room is modern, so I think those patterns matches better.

**Q: Solid color or Dark accented?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: I like the the solid color better, the dark accent breaks the house and it looks like a town house to me. Both are nice but depends on your client :)

**Q: Kitchen Paint HELP!** *(in Paint)*

I just painted the walls Agreeable Gray (SW) and planned to paint the cabinets Sea Haze (BM). However, after painting the walls, I slapped some sea haze on the cabinets to test it out and it feels like it looks so similar for some reason.  Any other ideas for what I could use here? I feel like what would be a little too much white. The painters come in a few days, so I need to decide.  Help, please!!

A: The best way to find a right color is to compare it... You can get a large paint sample (or get the paint sample and paint it on a large white board) from the paint store like Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moor then put it on the wall between your cabinets and floor tiles (where your garbage bin is now) to compare it first with an existing materials that you are NOT going to change!  If the color makes you happy then you can compare your back splash samples and counter top samples to see which one is going to match better. Agreeable gray is a green-gray so darker shade of it would be match better. 

If you like darker shade go with these colors and choose one.
