**Q: Is my Hood Height correct?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I recently had a new wood hood installed by professionals, but multiple people on here have stated it looks too high. I asked my installer when completing the job about the height and they stated that it’s correct for gas and a wood stove.
If it’s incorrect, I need to know now, before tiling around it. 
The lowest wood portion is 32 1/2” from grates.

**Q: Mesh tape showing after thinset was applied?** *(in Bathrooms)*

Is it okay that you can see the mesh tape after the thinset was applied? I’m planning on doing a light sanding everywhere I applied thinset, and then I’m going to waterproof with AquaDefense.  (Also I’m not sure how smooth and flat everything needs to be for tiling? 4x12 tiles.)

A: mastic is okay but if hot water gets on the mastic it has a tendency to fail. I would use redguard if that's the route you choose followed by a thinset rated for water type 1 (if it where up to me , I would actually cover that cement board in Schluter fabric 😁)

**Q: Necessary to have 2 windows in the bedroom?** *(in Building a Home)*

With regards to cross ventilation, can we do with the one large window? We are hoping to board up the other smaller window to make wall space for a full sized wardrobe. Not quite sure if losing a window would have a huge effect on the ventilation. Are there any other ways to keep the circulation going? Thanks :)

A: as long as the window is operable and had the  correct shave required to exit. normally when I hear take out 2 and put one, it's a bay window or large picture window.

**Q: mid-remodel and hate it.** *(in Bathrooms)*

We are doing a full remodel of a 70s bathroom that was in poor condition and I hate the shower. I feel like I was slightly bullied into the tile being reassured it would look good and there was less grout to clean. We do like the scallop tile accent and the floor. We are paying SO MUCH money for this and expecting a baby in a month and I just want to cry. I don't know what to do. Does anyone think it looks good and I should stop panicking?

A: that's definitely a drop in tub.. while not incorrect, not ideal or recommended. The contractor should have set the tile on top of the edge and sealed it. If I were to do this, I would have set my backer board (wedi) against the tub where your tile is now, sealed that with the waterproof sealant and then set the tile on the flange and sealed that.

**Q: Compensation for wrong cabinet color.** *(in Paint)*

I ordered custom kitchen cabinets from a reputable local maker who’s been in business for decades. They’re beautiful but the color is not what I specified. It was an SW color but they had to mix as a custom color due to it being a lacquer paint process and SW got it wrong. Since the cabinet maker did not verify the color, they are now installed and repainting is not an option. Thankfully it is close and I like it, but would obviously prefer the color I spent a lot of time choosing. What sort of compensation should I ask for? The total price was $13,000 installed. I have paid 2/3 of that so far as installation is not quite complete.

the problem with color matching is the same color changes yearly with slight variations, yes the lacquer is made custom to match but even the color code is not enough. When I have my clients pick a paint for their cabinets, I have them hand me the color wheel that has all the information for that particular color.
