> Tom, Maria and Lee recently completed a complete update of our stairs, including all railings, balusters, treads, and risers plus some additional trim work on the second floor. Our stairs are prominently on display as soon as you walk through the front door, so it was important that the update achieved the look we wanted to compliment other renovations in our home. Tom and Maria took the time to explain the project, work with us on material and color selections, and schedule around other contractors doing related work in our house. They were always courteous, punctual, and an overall pleasure to work with. Most importantly, Thomas' craftsmanship and attention to detail was amazing. He was able to work around existing issues due to original construction of our house plus some less than ideal work from the other contractors involved in this project, creating a truly stunning staircase that is now the showpiece of our front entry. We already have plans for future projects working with this fantastic team.

They did several things including full refinishing of existing railings and trim, restaining and finishing, and creating new interior handrails to match. The refinishing was difficult work but it looks great. They were on-time, professional, friendly, and importantly for us, helped keep our house clean and dust free while they worked. We appreciated the up-front contract, and Tom was more than happy to go over all the questions we had before beginning the project. The cost was in line with what other contractors had estimated but they were able to get the project done in a much more reasonable time frame than what others had promised. And of course their work is really impressive. We would certainly recommend them for anyone doing carpentry-based projects; we will certainly call them back for future projects!

## Community Q&A

**Q: French door leaking on new build** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have a 72" Masonite inswing French door on the back of our new build home. Every time it rains there are puddles on the subfloor. GC can't figure out what the issue is and has requested a brand rep come take a look. One of the helpers mentioned that he has never seen an uncovered French door not leak. I am not going to cover this door. Would an outswing door be less likely to leak? I was thinking that maybe the wind would actually push in and give the door a better seal during a storm. This picture was taken after a heavy storm, the water is only on the sides during an average rain. Thoughts? Suggestions?

A: Without physically being there it would all be a guess. With that said Flashing could be the culprit. But most likely because you are also getting water in the middle you are looking at miss-alignment with the seals, which can be addressed by adjusting seals or the doors. I've seen it happen before.  Good luck.
