Now I have a fireplace in the middle with an uneven ceiling due to ductwork. The house in surrounded by a beautiful lake and I am striving towards a coastal / cottage look. Note: the backside of the fireplace is now in the foyer. I just purchased my first home! A bright, sunny turn-of-the century brownstone. I'm excited to start making it my own. I'm trying to decide between paint colors and sofa colors. I was leaning towards gray shades, but have this beautiful dark, buttery wood fireplace to work with. What's your opinion? Stick in the brown family or can I pair light/medium grays? Thanks a million! Do you think gray couches will go out of vogue too soon? (never mind the window treatments and the champagne bottle - that was post-signing) :) A: I think the grey tones( not too dark) would be gorgeous contrasting the beautiful moldings you have.
