Award winning designer, Kathleen “Tath” Hossfeld, literally grew up designing homes at her father’s drafting board in his architectural-engineering firm in Hollywood, California. Tath presented her first floor plan of a home to her father at the age of ten. Her undergraduate studies, as a design major, were at Northern Arizona University. Tath completed her studies at the Interior Designer’s Guild, in Newport Beach California and Bellevue, Washington. Upon graduation she was hired as an in-house designer for Mortimer-Kahn Associates (Seattle, Washington and Berkeley, California).

In 1981 she founded her own firm of Tath Hossfeld Designs. As a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association, Tath has been published in national and international magazines. Her interviews concerning design work have appeared in Sunset Magazine, The Everett Herald, The King County Journal and The Seattle Times.

Married for over 40 years, Tath is the proud mother of an Lieutenant Colonel who is the father of her 2 beautiful granddaughters. In her “free time” she has walked over 9,000 miles raising funds for Breast Cancer and plans to continue her trek until a cure can be found.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Sectional** *(in Photo Questions)*

This is a beautiful setup! Is this one unit? Where can I order the sectional, wall and counter?

A: A wall was built to support the counter - then a template was made fro the sectional sofa. Brackets keep the piece from shifting or pulling apart

**Q: Wall height** *(in Photo Questions)*

Could you tell me the height of the wall under countertop??

A: I know you cannot tell from the camera angle but the sectional area is one step down ( 7.5 inches) which allowed for a stadium seating venue. So the wall starts at that level ( 7.5 inches below the chair level) then comes up to finished height ( including the subtop and Richlite material ) of 32 inches - 2 inches above normal table height.

**Q: What is the fireplace material?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: We used El Dorado Stone ( manufactured by Northwest Stone & Brick Co) Color was Mount Saint Helens. The Hearth was "Toto Stone" a Kansas Limestone. the El Dorado Stone was also used on the reverse side of the frieplace that has buit in buffet ( see photo) and on the extrerior of the home in limited quantities

**Q: Mural?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is the background a painted mural or some kind of wallpaper?

A: A fabulous Trompe L'Oeil Seattle artist named Andy Eccleshall painetd this . This is sub basement level of the client's home and we wanted to create a window - so realistic that it feels you can step out on the terrace !!

**Q: Suggest external paint colors please** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am renovating an arts & crafts/tudor revival in Maryland and hope you can suggest external colors! The house was built in 1924 and sits on a 1/2 acre lot. I'm adding to the house in the rear but much of the house will be restored-- original windows, doors, siding (and much of the inside). The metal roof cannot be saved but I'm replacing with metal shingles by Berridge. The new section in back will have James Hardie Artisan lap siding (smooth), which is a close match to the existing wood siding.

I'm attaching a photo of the front of the house as purchased and a drawing of the plans for the front. The north side porch (added a couple of decades after the house was built) will be demolished. The front porch, which is unsafe, will be replaced also. The brick chimney will be stuccoed. The original house had shutters that will be replaced (other windows are casement). The entire property will be landscaped so try to ignore that aspect.

My problem is that the colors of the house are constrained by the colors available for the siding and the roof. I've attached these colors. Even so, I've still got options. Does anyone have suggestions?

A: Here are a few more :)

**Q: Comfortable mobil chairs** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where can I find those chairs?

A: Sorry it took so long for us to respond. We are still searching in our "morgue" files but a part of us believes that our client have purchased them somewhere else. We will try to find that information.
