After a year of living in Westlake Village her family settled in Irvine where she spent most of her childhood. In 1994 Rama started what she thought was going to be a career in architecture at Saddleback College only to realize that it just was not the right fit. So she changed gears and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona where she graduated (in 2002) with a degree in landscape architecture. She then spent 7+ years working for a landscape architect before deciding to fly solo. Rama is dedicated to meeting her client’s goals and is determined to provide cost effective services. I honestly have no clue what kind of what it is. **Q: Backyard privacy ideas, alley entry neighborhood.** *(in Landscape Design)* Hello Houzzers! Looking for help with landscaping privacy and / or privacy screens in our coastal Wilmington, NC 28411 backyard. We live in a neighborhood where the homes are rear entry so there’s neighborly traffic in the alleyway. While we love our neighbors, having privacy is pretty high up on my wish list. The driveway has been my biggest challenge in figuring out placement of privacy screens and plants. Love the idea of bamboo planter boxes, but where to place? There’s so much cement and pavement in our view.. it could really use something softening and nature. We’re considering adding deck boards on top of 12x15 ish patio to expand and/or change shape. Would love to have seating along patio and a mini fire pit, but not sure we have the space for it.. Budget: TBD Thanks everyone! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts! Side note: HOA Fence height restriction is 4’. But privacy screens aren’t restricted in size. A: This could work. Perhaps on a smaller scale. **Q: Curb Appeal - Landscaping Update** *(in Landscape Design)* I'm looking for some ideas for an update to my front yard that might help the house look a bit less stark (especially on the side by the driveway). It's pretty much a blank slate at this point and I'm not sure where to start, other than that I am not loving the lawn. Does anyone have suggestions? I'm in the Pacific Northwest (Zone 8) and the house faces West. Is hiring a landscape designer worth it? A: Personally I think it is totally worth it to hire a designer. You can meet with a designer and get some ideas without actually hiring a designer. Perhaps meet with a few. In regards to the house, I would suggest having a path that goes from the front door to the street.
