> I have worked with Courtney on many projects as her cabinetry/millwork vendor. Her drawings are always very accurate and detailed, with everything thought out in the design, making my job that much easier! She is willing to be flexible if things have to change during the construction process, as they often do, and she handles any changes that arise with a sense of calm and optimism, which is a great attitude to have in this business. She has a wealth of knowledge about many aspects of interior design, materials selections, and construction. Her designs are both aesthetically pleasing as well as functional, and I would recommend her to any of my clients or friends- I look forward to working with her more in the future!

> What can I say? I threw a last minute house staging project her way. When I say last minute, it was last minute. She had less than 12 hours to do the job. And boy did they deliver. The team worked very well and late in the night. I could tell she cared about her work, its quality and all. I would hire them again in a heart beat.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Help Please! Need Color Suggestions!** *(in Paint)*

I am so color challenged! We just bought a house and I love it but the color thing is an issue. It has a unified space with a subtly separated kitchen. It has both East and West windows but quite dark times of day. The walls are bumpy textured and its a smaller living room dining combo. I have bought like ten samples and dislike them including some of the Magnolia line like Americana Egg and Emmies Room and Magnolia Green as well as a lot of Benjamin Moore colors like Mountain Air, Mist. I intended to paint it all white but the whites that I tried made the room look way smaller. Then with colors the light does strange things to the paint. When we bought it the room already had like five different colors lol so i dont think I'm the first to struggle with this.
I am going for light and bright and happy. I like light aquas, peaches and greens. I tend to like the boho or scandi minimalist style but also like bright calm colors. I also like to decorate with plants. The floor is beige tile and some orangy tiger wood. Help please?

A: I can see your challenge here. My go-to white paint is Benjamin Moore's distant gray. It is a really neutral white that doesn't have any cool or warm undertones. I would use that as your general paint color throughout.
It looks like you do have an opportunity to paint the dining wood an accent color if you wanted to. Check out farrow and ball, their colors are stunning and you can't go wrong. A little pricey but worth it for a small area.
To add color in the areas painted white I would accessorize with plants and statement artwork. You could even have the kids paint a few brush strokes or a simple geometric shape on a large canvas to create a chic, Scandinavian-inspired minimalist piece. Hope this helps!

**Q: Should bedrooms have ceiling light fixtures?** *(in Building a Home)*

We’re building a home and I feel like the bedrooms will not need decorative ceiling lights, only recessed lighting, since these hardly ever get used.
What is considered “normal”?

A: Forget "normal" - go with how you want the space to function and feel. I would always recommend recessed lighting for general use and cleaning purposes on its own switch. From there you want to start to layer.

A: You could either go with a central ceiling light, larger chandeliers or pendants are great for this. If you are worried about ceiling height and walking clearance you can place it above the base of the bed to get a little more height. You will want to add a switch next to your bed to turn this off. I would also pair nightstand lamps for reading/task lighting next to the bed.
B: Wall sconces are also a great option and are available in so many styles. If you are just going with these next to the bed I would stick with a more statement piece. Again you will want a switch paired with each for easy on/off next to the bed.

Since you are in the early stages I would hardware as many lighting sources as possible as they will feel more luxe than retrofitted switches and extension cords.

**Q: a la carte designer NJ** *(in Landscape Design)*

I need help selecting outdoor furniture. Any recommendations on a designer who can provide a la carte design services?

A: We'd be happy to help! I offer a service where we select everything for you to purchase and track on your own or a white glove service where we place orders (pass along trade discounts), warehouse all items, and complete the job in one delivery/reveal.

**Q: fireplace suggestions?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Want white clean farmhouse look but don’t know what to do about this chimney. Any advice?? Greatly appreciated ❤️

A: This room has so much potential! For the classic, fresh farmhouse look I would do the following; paint the existing brick white, spray paint the metal on the fireplace black with heat resistant paint, add a wooden mantle to add a bit of warmth and protect your tv from melting and lastly take shiplap up to your ceiling to accentuate the height of your space. You want to conceal any mechanical elements if possible. I would change your speakers to lower-profile ones or a bar that could be inset in the new shiplap and covered with a grille.

**Q: Quartz counters -anyone choose honed or matte?** *(in Home Decorating)*

Personally I like the hinged granite but we need to go quartz. I have seen some companies offer their version of a honed finish or matte. I wasn't paying attention to brands when I was there so I'm looking for recommendations... Some I hated the finish and some were quite natural looking. Anyone have a honed or matte quartz that can share their experience and maybe even photos? Thanks

A: I have used a matte finish on quartz and it's turned out really well. The matte finish tends to look similar to the classic gloss without the shine. I would be careful with going dark and matte since you will see fingerprints on matte. I have not used a honed finish for primary spaces like a kitchen. This does have some texture to it and is better suited for accent areas. All companies have slight variations, I would get a few samples and bring them into the space to see how you like it first. Hope this helps!

**Q: trying to find the right white paint for custom vanity w/ carrara floo** *(in Bathrooms)*

Dont want bright white but want fresh crisp & clean look

A: White dove could work as well but it does have some warmer undertones depending on your lighting.
