> John was great to work with! He was patient and responsive and thought it took a while to get to the finished plan he stuck with us through the whole thing and gave us attention the whole time. He was great at giving us the right amount of pushback to our ideas to encourage us to think through what we wanted, develop new ideas, and ultimately come away with a plan that was truly our own and suited to our tastes and our home's space. Having his plans in place was a great benefit in working with and finding the right builder for our project as well as negotiating a price as there wasn't a lot of guesswork among the bidders. All of them were equally impressed with the plan as well. We're half way through completing our project now, and it's been so great to see it all come to life!

> The basement design service provided was very good for the price. John was professional and patient as we worked thru all the design details for our basement. He provided comments and recommendations that prompted us to think about design options we had not considered. Together we came up with a design that will provide a cozy retreat for the whole family. John provides an excellent value for design services. We really enjoyed working with John on our basement design and we look forward to the finished product.

> Working with John to complete our basement design was far easier than we would have imagined. Not to mention, he rethought and designed our space in way we never would have imagined! The space utilization was exactly what we were looking for and he even gave us everything we asked for on our initial design questionnaire. Even our designer said the plans were better that plans she had seen from large firm architects! We highly recommend John if you are looking to finish or redesign/reimagine your basement space. You won't regret it!

> Started to work with John in October of 2018 to design our basement. He was very responsive and helped to walk through the different steps along the way. He provided a few different design options to start and once my wife and I chose the basic design we worked with John to refine it to our liking. His design really maximized the basement space, much more so than what our builder was offering as a finished basement solution. Once we got to the final design, John provided an extremely good blueprint of the basement that was ready for submitting to our county's building department. I took on the challenge of doing all of the work myself and with John's design, and some homework on my part, the basement finishing passed all inspections the first time and turned out to be incredibly beautiful and well timed addition to our house. I would highly recommend working with John for your basement finishing project.

> I appreciate the feedback and it looks so nice Brian. It was a pleasure working with you as well. Thanks for allowing me to be of service to you.

> We recently had the pleasure of working with John on redesigning our awkwardly structured bathroom, and we couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, John's professionalism and expertise were evident in every aspect of the project.
>
> John was incredibly responsive throughout the entire process. He promptly answered our questions, addressed our concerns, and kept us updated on the project's progress. His communication skills made us feel confident and well-informed at every stage. John brought a wealth of creative ideas to the table. He not only listened to our vision but also suggested innovative alternatives that we hadn't considered. His ability to push back appropriately and present new options showcased his deep understanding of design and functionality.
>
> John's collaborative approach was a key factor in our satisfaction with the project. He not only valued our input but also seamlessly integrated our ideas into the final design. This commitment to incorporating our preferences ensured that the bathroom perfectly met our needs and reflected our vision.
>
> John's deliverables were top-notch. From detailed plans to 3D renderings, everything was presented professionally and clearly. This level of detail helped us visualize the outcome and ensured no surprises. John truly thought through every aspect of the redesign. His meticulous attention to detail resulted in a bathroom that is not only beautiful but also highly functional. He considered our lifestyle and needs, creating a space that works perfectly for us.
>
> Finally, we found John's services to be excellent value for the price charged. The quality of work and level of service we received far exceeded our expectations. John's redesign has transformed our bathroom into a space we love, and we couldn't be more satisfied.
>
> We wholeheartedly recommend John to anyone needing a skilled and thoughtful designer. His ability to blend creativity with practicality, professionalism, and responsiveness made our experience exceptional. Thank you, John, for turning our vision into reality!

> It was a pleasure working with Basement Finishing & Design. He was clear on what I needed to do so he could develop a design that met our needs. I framed based off the plans a number of years ago, but then life got in the way. This year we're finishing it and I'm excited to see the plans come true

**Comment from Basement Finishing & Design Service, INC:**

> Thanks and it was a pleasure working with you. I hope to see those final photos of that cool design.

**★★★★★ — Jason G, May 2024**

> I feel very fortunate to have found John’s service on the Internet. The process of measuring and design took several months, but the quality of the design was so good, I didn’t mind spending the extra time to get things right. Getting involved in the design process also made me feel very confident that I would be very happy with the final design. It turned out that the township I lived in required an engineering drawing signed off by an architect, and when my contractor submitted the drawing for a permit, they accepted it no questions asked. The contractor printed the drawing to scale, backed it with a foam board, and using it for the project throughout. Definitely got my money’s worth, I can’t wait for the project to be finished!

**Comment from Basement Finishing & Design Service, INC:**

> Thanks for that Jason and that's amazing my drawings are that good to satisfy the township without an engineer. I hope you send final photos.

**★★★★★ — Jacob Lamm, April 2024**

>
> Highly Recommend !

**Comment from Basement Finishing & Design Service, INC:**

  - Description: A wonderful compact design in a basement space under 800 sq. ft. As the designer, I was lucky to find the furnace and water heater already tucked off to the side under the top of the stairs. I also made modifications to the stairway adding in the landing you see in this finished photos. This allowed the code required width of 36" to work. Without this, it was a builder error. ## Community Q&A

**Q: how long will you take to finish basement?** *(in Photo Questions)*

My house is closing March 15
And it is in Maryland heights

A: I do only professional designs for basement finishing; plans to build from. Although I'm here in Saint Louis, I provide this design service nationally and in Canada. Contractors normally take 3-4 months in construction.

**Q: Buttresses in basement** *(in Before & After)*

We had a design dilemma as to how to incorporate these concrete buttresses into our lower level rec room. They were necessary as this room is an addition to the original foundation. Turned out great, just gave our contractor free reign!
you would never know they weren't meant to be there. (Note: TV will be mounted on barn board so it is more evenly placed and still some painting left to complete.)

A: Great job hiding the concrete bench walls as I see them called. Clever built-ins! These are not really a buttress but work in a similar way I believe. It appears this area of the basement may have been a crawl space at one point and the bench walls are added to support footings and to then lower the floor in most cases. Just a guess viewing the limited photos. FYI: Attached is an image of typical buttress walls in a basement. Who was the clever contractor? If anyone needs a professional design for any basement to look as nice also hiding buttress walls, bench walls, post, beams, ducts or you name it, just contact me.

**Q: Check out the photos and information we just posted on this fantastic custom wine cellar.** *(in Post to Followers)*

Check out the photos and information we just posted on this fantastic custom wine cellar.

A: Love that gothic look; not sure I would have offset the two arches that much and do hope it's tempered glass so close to the pool table. Nice floor and ceilings as well.

**Q: Help with the front exterior. Porch? Door color?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

1\. We were having the entry floor tiled and low and behold the door had been leaking. Dampness everywhere. We need a new front door. I'd like to get away from the maroon we had. Any color ideas?
2\. We've always wanted a covered porch or something along that line. Any ideas? We just can't seem to come up with any ideas that work. Thanks!

A: (kmkane above) said it best although there's allot of good ideas here. Fixing the leak can take place with a covered front porch design and I could design such as well. The house is dated and it's a simple design currently and without curb appeal. The bay on the left can be updated using a wood look that can be painted with faux techniques to look like wood grain also on the entire front door and side light. But the right side of the house front, the large gable end should all be part of a front porch to door with stone between the two boring windows. Adding an all wood look yet in Trek Decking material http://www.trexrainescape.com/ using stone columns.

But if the budget is too tight, the image I put up will give an idea of what could be done as a face lift and just to emulate the idea. Maybe instead of shutters, consider replacing the windows with wider ones and or with an arch over them. This idea does require some new framing and roofing but you'll get your front door covered too. But you have a huge front yard, why not enjoy it on a large front porch with wide steps leading up to the main entry?

**Q: Flooring** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the name of this tile?

A: Thanks for responding to this question.

**Q: Craft table** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where can I purchase the craft table?

A: This table could be made by a Formica countertop shop I'd think.
