### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Morten Asfeldt, June 2020**

> I have worked with Les Wold and his crew for the past year to design a net-zero clubhouse for our local ski club. Working with Les and the rest of the Effect Homes Builders team has been a pleasure. They are quick to communicate, listen to our ideas and needs, and provide great ideas and solutions. If you are building a home or other building, I recommend Effect Home Builders.

**Comment from Effect Home Builders Ltd.:**

> Thank you for the kind words Morten. We enjoyed working with you and your team!

> We’ve had the pleasure of providing professional architectural photography services for Effect Homes over many years. During that time we’ve been consistently impressed with their professionalism and dedication to building beautiful custom homes that meet the very individual needs of each client. The happy homeowners we’ve met are a true testament to the attention to detail, build quality and friendly service that the Effect team is known for. We highly recommend Effect as a top choice to anyone considering a custom build in the Edmonton region.

**★★★★★ — Ken Stadt, Sept. 2019**

> We hired Effect Home Builders for a near complete rebuild of our 1945 Edmonton home. They took it down to bare studs, dug an addition, and did a stunning job rebuilding it to modern, energy-efficient standards, and to a sweet design by architect Tai Ziola. We found Effect honest, realistic, and transparent in their estimates and billing. Effect's staff were good communicators throughout the project, and finished on-budget and on-time. Our gas and power use have dropped by half, despite the house being 35% larger. We enjoy the comfort and functionality; the neighbors (and us!) enjoy the look.

> It was a pleasure working with you. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity!

> Effect Homes completed our home in 2016. We are extremely pleased with our amazing home! Effect was involved with out architects from the very beginning and brought our vision to life. Their approach was professional and meticulous every step of the way. The attention to detail was amazing. Everyone at Effect truly cares about their work and the level of integrity is second to none! The subcontractors they choose are the best in the business. Many thanks to all at Effect Homes for building our sanctuary!!

**★★★★★ — Waygood's Kitchens Inc, Oct. 2017**

> We have been working with Effect Home Builders going on a few years now and are always amazed and excited when new plans come into our office for our staff at Waygood's Kitchens Inc to review. From the moment we receive plans and have our first sit down design consultation with Effect's in house designer/project manager, Sydney Bond, the level of detail and intricate planning is present. This level of detail and planning does not stop here, the pride taken throughout every step of the build is second to none. Their homes carry stylish modern designs, unheard of energy efficient ratings and flawless finishing overseen by the particular eyes of Effect's site superintendents. Not only do they carry the Mike Holmes approved brand they also carry the Waygood's Kitchens Inc approval for one of the finest custom home builders around.

**★★★★★ — thirdstone inc. \[^\], June 2017**

> Modern house design requires discipline and rigour. To fully realise the design, these same characteristics are required from the builder. As a design consultant, I am impressed with Effect's commitment to excellence and dedication to their projects. The entire team at Effect Homes demonstrates great leadership skills and construction knowledge on all our projects. The dedication to their profession is founded on the very principles of sustainability.
>
> Effect Home Builder’s dictum of “living exactly the way you want to” aligns with our philosophy on designing homes that are fully tailored to the homeowners needs. This methodology is critical to the success of custom designed projects.
>
> I look forward to our continued work together...

> We have worked with effect home builders on 2 or 3 of their amazing show homes. The quality standards of their homes are second to none! They continue to provide new innovations and technologies to their homes that the "average" builder will not! If you are looking for a home that is as unique as you are contact Effect home builders today...Les will look after you!

**★★★★★ — Ian MacGillivray, Oct. 2016**

> While Effect has not built a home for us (yet!), we have spent lots of time in their homes and have friends who own and love their Effect Homes. Excellent craftmanship, detail, comfort, and unique extras that you don't find from regular builders. I've also known one of the owners for many years and he's one of the most trustworthy, authentic fellows I know and is highly respected in the community.

**★★★★★ — Chris Chandra, Sept. 2016**

> Effect Home Builders designed and built us a beautiful energy efficient home. This green home is extremely quiet (on a busy street), comfortable (no A/C required), includes a solar PV system (super cheap utilities) and was rated Built Green Platinum. Everything we wanted, and the staff at Effect are awesome too! Thanks gu

> We had Effect renovate our home and were truly impressed! They were professional, easy to work with and clearly explained the renovation process. They helped us select durable materials and took extra steps to ensure everything was installed properly. The results were stunning. We enjoyed living in the beautiful space until deciding to move to accommodate our growing family. We definitely recommend Effect for anyone considering a renovation!

**★★★★★ — dianav454, March 2016**

> The idea of building a custom home is daunting and nerve-wracking, as generally what you hear are people's horror stories of working with shoddy builders. When we embarked on the process of building our dream home, we were nervous, and we wanted to make sure we did our due diligence to prevent any issues from occurring down the road.
>
> Effect Homes stood out from other companies that we had researched because of their green building practices, reputation, and overall willingness to discuss our plans and address all of our questions and concerns. When we first met with Les, we could tell that he was genuine and sincere, and that as a company they truly care about building quality homes. We met several times with Les and Dale prior to proceeding with the project, and they were always patient and willing to provide any information we needed.
>
> From a budget perspective, they were honest and up front. There were no surprises, and any changes that we requested throughout the process were always outlined on paper with a dollar amount provided so that we knew exactly what we were paying for.
>
> The building process was fairly seamless, any issues that came up were dealt with promptly by Dave and Will. Effect was respectful to our neighbors, which is important with infills in mature neighborhoods. We were provided access to the home upon request, and we felt included throughout the entire process. Sydney proved to be invaluable during the selection process; even though we had a very clear idea of what we wanted. We quickly realized how overwhelming it can be with so many different options for flooring, fixtures and other design elements available. Sydney helped us narrow our focus and ultimately select products that aligned with our vision and budget.
>
> We have now been in our home for just over 6 months, and we could not be happier. The quality and workmanship are evident to us and everyone who has come to our home. Although we plan for this to be our forever home, if in the future we decide to build again, we would definitely choose Effect Homes.

**★★★★★ — tim\_heins, Feb. 2016**

> (if you wish to see pictures and read about our home google search: The Chronicles of Aspen Acres. This home won the Alberta Home Builders Association 2015 Green Home Award)
>
> After 10 years of planning and research, my wife and I learned that the single most important decision we would make about building our dream home was the choice of builder to make that dream come true.
>
> From the first meeting in November of 2012 through to the completion of our new home at Aspen Acres in August of 2014, the management and staff at Effect Home Builders demonstrated time and again their singular focus on excellence in every aspect of their service and product delivery.
>
> They have an excellent network of quality professionals and service providers that provided us with everything we needed to design our home, to achieve our energy efficient goals and objectives and to have a finished product that truly represents our dream come true.
>
> As our Project Manager they demonstrated the highest level of care and concern for our budgetary requirements. When choices had to be made they provided the information we needed to understand what choice was a best fit for our needs.
>
> Effect Homes Ltd. is an R2000 certified builder and is actively involved in the promotion and construction of energy efficient homes and buildings. There are many builders and most will sell you whatever you want at whatever price you are willing to pay; there only a handful of builders in any given marketplace who have the passion, knowledge and expertise to deliver on energy efficiency competently - Effect Home Builders is one of those few companies in our region.
>
> Our home was a "keep it simple stupid" passive solar home project with a defined and limited budget. What we ended up with a home that achieved Canada Energuide Platinum certification with a score of 93 at the same time as it embodied all of the custom home specifics to suit our personal tastes and living design choices.
>
> It has been just over one year since we moved into our home. The after care and warranty service of Effect Home Builders is second to no-one. They dealt with the annual inspection efficiently and in a timely manner. We asked for assistance with a couple of items after-the-fact and they were there for us to get it done.
>
> So the bottom line is the project came in on time, on budget and we have a beautiful custom home that is an award winning energy efficient home - could we have asked more? I don't think so. Do you want the same? I think you should talk to Effect Homes. I know they will take care of you just the same way they took care of us.

  - Description: Because the Federal style of architecture pre-dates Prairie development, it’s rare to see this form of home in the West, making it a privilege to see this example of historic design. Prominent details of this style are seen in all aspects from the catches on the exterior shutters to the symmetry of the stacked windows. This theme is strictly followed as you enter the home. The plan layout of the common areas, bedrooms, and bathrooms was borrowed from what is normally seen in Federal architecture…
