We read reviews of local businesses, contacted 6, interviewed 3 and chose Legacy Renovations. The bid was a factor but not the most important one. The personnel made a huge impression. That began with Wendy, our initial contact and the beating heart of the company. Much of our business was conducted through an interactive website, although there were plenty of face-to-face meetings. Questions posted were quickly answered, but Wendy was an amazing hand holder, anxiety calming, font of information for 2 newbies who had never tackled such a huge project. > When Justin, the President of LR, inspected the house to propose their bid, he was the only contractor who spied potential problem areas and explained clearly how they could impact the job. He posed intelligent questions to us about the house and work we had already done on it. As he inspected the house, he came to an independent conclusion that the "bones" of the house were good, and we could concentrate on its aesthetics. > One of the big reasons we chose LR was consultant Brittany. My choices of style and color are suspect, and I needed guidance. Brittany helped us achieve a jewel box of a home that isn't glitzy or gaudy. Even our disagreements were good natured and friendly. For instance: she convinced me to get black fixtures for the house. No way, I thought, BLACK? Then I noticed all the iron antiques from my great-grandparents and realized how the black fixtures would enhance them. Perfect! Every time I walk into my dining room and see that black chandelier I am dazzled. > Jon took over as project manager and kept the work going as quick as possible. We wish we knew the names of all the people who gutted our home (that was traumatic!) and turned her back into a beauty. Ian and Alex and Ginny were part of the crew that worked long hours and even on Sundays to get us back into our home as soon as possible. We rented a cabin for 3 months on the other side of town and came by every day to pick up mail and packages. Often someone was working past 8pm or as early as 6am (our neighbors eagerly gave us updates of comings and goings.) We were so impressed by the work ethic; and Glen's questions were not only tolerated but welcomed and our requests were honored. > In a project this size there will always be snafus and miscommunications. We had to adapt to situations. We chose the worst possible time to renovate. Supply shortages, price increases...the crew of LR recovered by finding alternate vendors or Brittany finding wiser choices. Despite all the obstacles and challenges LR completed our project $40 under budget and we started moving into our house a week ahead of schedule. Justin had some great ideas for improving our kitchen, guest bath and master bath. We widened some doors, put in a new entrance into the master bath, changed a shower/tub to a shower, and later decided to paint the interior of the entire house and to add hardwood flooring in addition to tile in the two bathrooms. Brittany was great to work with and helped me make updated and functional design choices. We chose this company to interview because the design and construction process on their website seemed so organized and reasonable. It worked well. Anytime I messaged the designer, owner, financial person or project manager, I received a return message that day or the following day. The company was quick to take care of on site problems when they arose. They often went above and beyond to help ensure we stayed within budget and never proposed anything unreasonable. It’s totally understandable that things were taking longer but it would have been easier if we had a better idea of the expanded timeline. Also, to go along with the timeline, again the pandemic had much to do with the fact that Legacy was understaffed. One of the major reasons we were drawn to Legacy was because they had contractors actually on staff but there were many days when progress was not made due to lack of staff. It was a challenge to them because, during the middle of the renovation, COVID-19 precautions caused them to stop work for several weeks. We appreciated the use of the co-construct program, which enabled us to keep up with the work process, make selections, and give and receive feedback on the work progress. During the construction, we made some changes to the plan and added some additional features. Legacy was able to cope with those changes, and their cost for modifications was reasonable. They responded quickly to our questions and also took steps to ensure that they met all of the specifications of the contract. All of their employees were pleasant and easy to work with. In some cases, some of their subcontractors performed work that needed correction. Legacy made sure those corrections were accomplished to our satisfaction.
