Shelley Clark-Glidewell, owner of Clark-Glidewell/Architect, LLC (CGA) is an architectural firm established in Charleston, SC in 1998. CGA specializes in custom one of a kind residential architecture. Our projects range from Kitchen and Master Bath renovations to historic restorations and renovations to new traditional and contemporary construction. Shelley has experience will many different types of homes with each project focusing on the individual client and their needs. As a registered architect, Shelley will provide her experience and foresight to the project, but ultimately it is the homeowner who lives in the house after construction is complete. It is their wishes that must be realized to complete the final product. Shelley has in depth preservation experience, along with Masters of Architecture degree concentrating in Historic Preservation from the University of Michigan. She has worked 27 years with homes in the Historic District and surrounding areas in Charleston, SC and Summerville, SC. She can help you navigate the ever looming city requirements and BAR (Board of Architectural Review). Shelley also has experience in the local ARB (Architectural Review Board) of Kiawah and Seabrook Islands, SC. Preservation is just one love, as Shelley can easily design new construction with a traditional or modern flair. And, sustainability is interwoven throughout her entire 33 year architectural career. Restoring an old home is the ultimate case for sustainability. (Shelley and her husband personally restored 3 homes in Charleston.) Using both old and new technologies together works best for all projects. Energy efficient and the most up to date technology is an important aspect of all designs. Detail, detail, detail is not just a mantra, but a follow through during the construction process.

Shelley is currently active in the following:

Downtown Charleston First Baptist School and Church. She is serving her 2nd (3 year) term on the FBS Board of Directors. Currently, she is the Owners Representative for the new High School building being constructed on James Island.

AIA CRAN (Custom Residential Architectural Network) Steering Committee

Preservation Society of Charleston

**★★★★★ — Jerry Smith, March 2018**

> We have used Shelley for multiple projects over 14 years. All have been downtown Charleston historic homes. We have found her to be knowledgable and easy to work with. Shelley can be flexible but will also make every effort to provide advise to ensure you understand the ramifications of the choices you wish to make. We have been extremely pleased with every experience and have come to consider Shelley a friend as well as a professional architect.

**Comment from Clark-Glidewell/Architect:**

> Thank you Jerry and Sharon! Thanks for being great clients and wonderful friends.

- [Plantation Home in Ravenel, SC Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/plantation-home-in-ravenel-sc-residence-pj-vj~2760549)
  - Location: Ravenel, SC
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: This project was modeled after historic Dean Hall Plantation in Beaufort, SC in both the exterior and the floor plan. The house was designed with children in mind as the clients have 4 children. (Grown children now, and I'm sure lots of grandchildren in the future will be running through this easy living home.) No drywall was used in the house. All walls, floors and ceilings are cypress that was cut and milled by the owners. Ten foot ceilings and large open rooms make this house wonderful for en…
- [Lowcountry Boathouse](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lowcountry-boathouse-pj-vj~2789815)

  - Description: This once in a lifetime project encompassed all of my loves! My love for 1930's Craftsman Architecture, Historic Preservation and who doesn't love a BOATHOUSE! On my first visit to this amazing plantation, I drove a mile after getting off the road, to see a lone chimney standing, with a small tree growing from the top, and open water where the original 1930's boathouse use to stand. After seeing the original photos, I knew this was going to be one of the most amazing projects Clark-Glidewell/Arc…
- [Downtown Charleston, SC Kitchen](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/downtown-charleston-sc-kitchen-pj-vj~2789787)
  - Location: Charleston, SC
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: This major kitchen renovation affected not only the kitchen but 3 adjacent rooms, Entry Foyer, Dining Room and Family Room. The Kitchen and Dining Room were divided by a traditional wall in the existing design. Removing the wall allowed for an open plan concept in a very traditional designed Charleston Single home. Exposed beams and masonry chimney make this a unique open kitchen. The owners decided to not have a fireplace and wrapped a large island around the existing brick chimney. The Dining…
- [The Crescent (West Ashley, SC)](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/the-crescent-west-ashley-sc-pj-vj~2760568)
  - Location: Charleston, SC

  - Description: Renovation of 2000 SF home with a 1200 SF addition and 1000 SF out building. Another home with family, children and pets in mind. A simple brick home with 4 rooms at each level was the existing condition. Adding the 1200 SF two story space to the side helped open the Living and Kitchen for a large entertaining space with a trellised porch at the rear. Reuse of eclectic materials was a favorite of the owner. The wood paneled wall in the Living Room was material reused from an old dairy farm from…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Need help with siding!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Looking to replace the siding with a darker color but can't figure out what to pick! Any ideas?

Ps- the green awnings will be taken down and a new door put in. Also replacing the roof with a black one.

A: Try cedar shakes. Don't paint the brick...just creates more maintenance.
