> We hired Douglas Allen Custom Homes and Remodeling to build a large one-story extension to the back of our house. This almost doubled the size of our house. We are so pleased with the results! From the very beginning we could tell that the owner, Doug Smith, was someone we could trust. He worked very hard to make sure we were happy and well-informed every step of the way. He told us it would take about 4 months to build the extension.  (We almost didn’t believe this because another company told us it would take 9 months.) The foundation was laid in August and we were moving our stuff in by Thanksgiving! We had workers at the house practically every week. His work crews and assistants were all friendly and very skilled at their various jobs.  Doug’s assistant, Josh, was awesome!  He is a jack of all trades and an all around great guy. We enjoyed having him around, as well as many of the other workers that worked on our house.  Any issues that came up were addressed and corrected promptly. We really appreciate their attention to detail and willingness to do whatever was needed to get the job done to our expectations.

> My wife & I were looking to have our bathrooms updated in our home. We wanted to remove a tub/shower combo in our master & replace it with a walk-in shower. We also wanted to replace the guest bath tub/shower with similar set up. We first contacted one of those companies that does the tub/shower replacement by covering your existing with a prefab unit &  for the walk in a complete tear out. Their price came back & they pushed my wife really hard to agree on the spot & they would then guarantee the price.

We also got to pick out our tub & all the fixtures along with real ceramic tile for both baths, no cheap fiberglass. We were saving so much we had him replace the flooring in our master. We did all of this for less than what the other company wanted for just the walk-in shower. Of course it was not completed in one day like the fiberglass guys promise but we were very happy with the scheduling & completion for both baths. > Doug ad his crews were great.  We did a renovation of our home that included some complex structural issues as we decided mid project to add on square footage.  It required adding reinforcement with overhead beams after knocking down some walls.  The demo and installation worked very smooth and they all performed as trust worthy pros.  Doug also installed new kitchen appliances and cabinets and completely repainted the inside of the house.  All the wooden floors were replaced, hand scraped and stained to look just like we wanted. The house is much more open now, all painted and feels like a new house.  I would definitely use Doug and his crew for any future Reno or build job.

**Q: Extra large format tiles on bathroom walls** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are adding 24"x48" porcelain tiles to two bathrooms  - Shale moon by Italgraniti. They will go on the entire two walls of the shower in bathrooms that have 10' ceilings and 8'x8' and 8'x7'. I chose the large format tiles to create a smooth seamless look. I requested vertical stacking but now wonder if they should go horizontal to help widen the space. I've read lots of posts with pictures of bathrooms that have 12"x24" wall tiles. Do the same principles (re widening space w/horizontal layout e.g.) apply with extra large format tiles?

A: This shower is about 12’ wide

**Q: brassna kitchen faucets** *(in Kitchens)*

Anyone familiar with this brand? Have one and love it, hate it? Wondering of they are too good to be true at half the price of other brass faucets...

A: DO NOT BUY FROM BRASSNA!  They have zero customer service. I had issues with 2 of their faucets and could not reach anyone. They are cheaply made garbage.

**Q: sink isn’t centered with window** *(in Remodeling)*

Help! This is different than the rendering, and now after cabinets were installed the sink isn’t centered? What are your thoughts? It will be a farmhouse sink , do you think this is ok or will need to be fixed somehow? It’s off by approx 5 inches or so

**Q: I have a vent-a-hood I want to install it over a gas range** *(in Polls)*

The manufacture recommends 24 inches I want it to go 32-36 inch above any recommendations?

A: Shannon, the filters are needed for recirculating vent hoods where they cannot be vented to the exterior of the home

**Q: does my microwave look too big?** *(in Appliances)*

Does my microwave look too big?  My GC did built a little shelf underneath for me but I feel like it sticks outs a lot and looks odd.  Should I go get a smaller one? This one’s only 1.4 cu ft to begin with.

A: Your cabinetmaker should have built the cabinet to accommodate the microwave. We do it all the time.

**Q: Has anyone used EnduroShield glass coating for new glass shower doors?** *(in Polls)*

Wondering if anyone has used the EnduroShield glass coating product for their shower doors. The upcharge is approximately $145 and comes with a 10-year warranty. This shower is just for my husband and I and we do not mind using a squeegee. His thoughts are to just use Rain x and clean like we always have to save the money. Would love to hear from anyone who has used EnduroSheild and whether or not they thought the extra money was worth it.

A: Yes I've used it several times but Shower Guard is better
