> My husband and I lost our home in the Palisades fire in 2025, and we hired Kevin on the spot after a phone call within a couple weeks of the disaster. We could just tell that he was the right person to get us home, and he came highly recommended by our amazing contractors. Kevin completely understood our goals, and we were able to move very quickly through the entire permitting and design process. He designed every inch of the house except the furniture. He came with us to all the vendors to choose the tile, marble, flooring, appliances, fixtures etc. We trusted him so completely that we preferred to have him lead the way on our selections, and we could not be more thrilled with the results. Kevin has a strong attention to detail, and we wanted to make sure all of the elements fit the style of the home and his overall vision. He is not only a genius architect, but he is also a great person. He is calm, kind, and compassionate. It has been such a pleasure working with him. We wholeheartedly recommend him.

> Kevin was an excellent partner in our first-time home remodel project. Not only did he design a beautiful space that meets the needs of our family, he also went above and beyond in supporting the build process. He was available to answer questions big or small and met with our contractor weekly to troubleshoot problems. Great design, great communication and really easy to work with - highly recommend Kevin.

> We first met Kevin as his tenants, living in a property he’d remodeled over a decade before, which still feels smart and fresh. When we embarked on a home renovation of our own, he was the first person we called.
>
> Our home is a 1928 Tudor that had been Frankensteined over the years with illegal additions and structures. We wanted to honor the original and bring it back to its former glory—just with modern features that would make it more livable.
>
> Kevin helped us achieve both what we wanted and what legally needed to be done, which weren’t always aligned given the size of the project. He led us step-by-step through permitting, where his knowledge of complicated city regulation and requirements saved us multiple headaches and false starts.
>
> Kevin is a literal wizard with space planning and layouts (the man does not waste an inch), but he’s also the kind of guy who knows and truly cares about the original details and history of a home. He led us through the initial phases of our design with patience and efficiency, always listening to our ideas, but never wasting our time (and money) when our ideas were, well, not-so-great. Even though our project was a to-the-studs renovation, Kevin helped us preserve, restore or replicate so many original details that our home ended up having \*more\* character than we started with.
>
> When it comes to the finishing details, he’s an excellent and honest collaborator. We knew we wanted a lot of bold and unique decisions with our tile, stone, lighting and paint, and came to him with strong ideas. Kevin was an amazing sounding-board for making and executing all of our left-of-center choices. He always offered his candid thoughts, and respected when we decided on something other than his recommendations. He didn’t disappear when construction started, remaining hands-on to ensure all of our materials were installed correctly and well. When the renovation threw a curve ball, he was always there to help us trouble shoot without losing our original vision.
>
> In an industry where everyone tries to do the least for the most, Kevin always looked out for us. He cared about protecting our budget, time and overall sanity in an inherently crazy process. And if that’s not enough, he also makes some pretty good jokes.
>
> If we had to do it all over again, Kevin would still be the first person we’d call—but because of how talented he is, we hope to never leave the home he helped us build.

> My husband and I had a great experience with Kevin. We hired him for a remodel and an addition to our 1930s Spanish-style home, and he seamlessly made our home more functional and spacious while also preserving many of the original details that we loved. It was very important to us to maintain the character of our home, and Kevin was really knowledgeable about how to do this while also adding on/updating the house to give us what we needed. This project was first time we had ever done any construction/remodeling, and Kevin walked us through every step of the way to make what could have been a totally overwhelming process feel stress-free and fun. We always felt like we could ask Kevin anything and knew he would give us honest and fair advice, including helping us find and select our contractor. Kevin’s attention to detail was invaluable during construction, and he did an excellent job working with our contractor (and communicating with us) to ensure that everything was executed according to our plans and up to his standards. We couldn’t be happier with Kevin’s work and loved working with him.

> We needed an architect who could update our 1930 Spanish style home while keeping true to the beautiful details that we love about the house. Kevin did an amazing job and exceeded all our expectations! We needed to update our kitchen, family room, dining room and master suite. Kevin's design drew inspiration from other parts of the house and seamlessly integrated them into the remodeled parts of the house. For example, he put in new arched entryways that match ones in the older part of the house, and kept the unusual molding and millwork patterns from the dining room in the newly updated family room. At the same time, he made our kitchen and master bath/closet modern and open. His attention to detail and friendly, open and responsive manner made the whole project easy and fun. Highly recommend!!

> As a first time home-remodeler guy, I was all worried and junk at the thought of someone coming into my house, putting a sledgehammer in the wall, and making my living room look like an Andy Gump. But that's when I met Kevin Oreck - calm, professional, and more handsome than Kevin Costner in Dancing With Wolves. His work exceeded me and my family's expectations and now my wife and I can poop in peace (at the same time). THANK YOU KEVIN ORECK ARCHITECT INC!!

> When we met Kevin we were looking for a way to add a master suite onto our 1940's home, which had multiple awkward additions tacked on over the years by previous owners. Kevin came up with a cohesive floor plan that feels twice as big even though we only added 400 square feet. The flow and proportions are perfect and the house is now filled with light. Kevin was always available and our project ended up being completed slightly ahead of schedule. His taste is impeccable and he was conscientious of our budget throughout planning and construction.

**★★★★★ — ordeaux, Jan. 2016**

> Kevin is everything you want in an architect. When it came time to expanding our house, we sat down with Kevin and told him that we were looking to add a second floor in order for our girls to each have their own bedroom and for us to have a proper master bedroom. Kevin came back to us with two plans for adding a floor, but an even better plan for expanding out on the back of our house, staying on one floor. He didn't push this idea, but it was immediately apparent to us that his plan was the plan to go with – a fluid design that delivered on everything we wanted. Going forward, Kevin was meticulous throughout the entire process, always in communication with us, always available. He'd give his opinion but it was always up to us to make the decision. His taste is impeccable, though, and invariably the choices he offered up were spot on, both stylistically and budgetarily. In short, hire Kevin. You will not be sorry.

**★★★★★ — crojas1221, Jan. 2016**

> We had a new house built on a small lot with the goal of getting something that combined traditional elements with modern aesthetic. I wouldn't have been able to dream up a better home. Kevin works creatively, efficiently and so competently that a process that should have been a nightmare was actually a pleasure.

**★★★★★ — court\_peters, Jan. 2016**

> Kevin transformed our tiny, disjointed home into a beautiful and functional masterpiece. He provided us with the open space and modern amenities we needed, while preserving the character and charm of our beloved 1920's traditional. His thorough design, attentive approach to construction administration, and up-to-date knowledge of the city permitting process were invaluable. We can't imagine planning, enduring, and completing our project without him! Kevin was a pleasure to work with, and I highly recommend him to anyone seeking architectural services.

**★★★★★ — peterkarp, Jan. 2016**

> We hired Kevin to do a remodel and addition. His attention to detail and thoroughness from beginning to end were exemplary. He transformed our 1940's box house into a contemporary open floored plan that brought the outside beauty into the house. His aesthetic meshed with ours which made everything even better. He would liaise with the contractor in weekly meetings to make sure that that all the work was being done to his standard. He was a pleasure to work with.

**★★★★★ — studio7353, Jan. 2016**

> We hired Kevin Oreck to build our house from the ground up on a complex lot with a tight budget. Kevin's talent, creativity, knowledge, patience and communication skills resulted in a home that exceeded our expectations and was completed on time and within our budget.
> Throughout the entire process Kevin was a joy to work with. He listened and understood our needs and was able to maintain the integrity of the design and keep costs under control in the face of unforeseen issues that are a part of any building project. Kevin's demeanor along with excellent problem-solving, communication and organizational skills allowed him to work effectively and efficiently not only with us, but with our contractor, sub-contractors, city inspectors, Building and Safety Dept, City Planning, etc. Years later, we still look back fondly on working with Kevin to realize our dream home. We have and will continue to recommended Kevin Oreck to all our friends and family.

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: This is a new house and separate garage/recreation room designed to replace one lost in the Palisades Fire. Though similar in footprint and size to the original house, the design is completely different; in addition to being much nicer, it was also designed to be much more fire-resistant. This is one of the very first homes to be completed after the fire. Landscape is currently being installed.

  - Photos: 25
  - Description: This English cottage style house was originally built in 1928, but had been negatively altered since. All windows were replaced with aluminum ones, and an incompatible addition was constructed at the rear. A separate recreation room was also built behind the detached garage. The recreation room, and the rear addition to the house were removed. Access to the garden was through the laundry room. The laundry room was relocated, and the kitchen was completely remodeled and opened up to the garden wi…

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 14
  - Description: This is a really nice Spanish style home built in the 30's that had been inappropriately remodeled in the 80's. Our goal was to integrate the remodeled portions with the rest of the house, both physically and stylistically. The family room in particular, which was added in the 80's, was disconnected from the rest of the house, and was very Southwestern in style.
- [Campbell Drive](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/campbell-drive-pj-vj~1349103)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This new home was built for an artist, his wife who is a food stylist, and their young son. The design was complicated by an extremely narrow lot (39 feet) and limited budget. Windows were located to provide light and views of the gardens without compromising privacy from the houses immediately adjacent. Through the center of the house is a 40 foot long band of high windows affording views of the sky and treetops from the living and dining rooms, and kitchen. Below these windows the ceiling fram…

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: This new home was designed as a family-friendly “stealth modern”. The exterior is an unassuming traditional form, but the interior is modern, with concrete floors on the lower level and simple trim. It includes 4 bedrooms, an office, and family room. Despite the narrow lot, the house also has an outdoor living room with built-in grill and firepit.
- [Alta View Drive](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/alta-view-drive-pj-vj~1350615)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This one-story 50’s home was dark, non-descript, and took no advantage of views, especially of the unbuilt hillside behind it. In the course of the remodel, the house was torn down to a just a few walls. Around 1,250 square feet were added with a new second story that includes a master suite and second bedroom. Each room has a distinct view, with the angled roofs of the house emphasizing the hill behind.

  - Location: Beverly Hills, CA

  - Description: This one-story 50’s home was awkwardly arranged and non-descript. The small kitchen was located far from the family room at the front of the house, and much space was wasted with corridors. In the course of the remodel, the house was torn down to framing. Around 400 square feet were added at the side and front of the house to avoid shrinking the back yard. The large eat-in kitchen was built as an addition to the side adjacent to the family room. The master suite was built at the front of the hou…

  - Description: This 2,275 sq. ft. 30’s Cape Cod Colonial had been badly remodeled in the 50’s. A large family room of incompatible style was added to the back which rendered the center of the house dark and unused. The master bedroom upstairs was long and narrow, with low ceilings. In the course of the remodel, the house was stripped down to the first floor framing and an additional 707 square feet were added. A new family room with a covered porch was added to the first floor. The staircase was moved to the m…

  - Description: This 1950's post and beam home had good bones, but had fallen into disrepair and was very awkwardly laid-out. we relocated the entry, expanded the cramped galley kitchen into an unused dark space, and opened it to the view, and replaced the sliding windows that obstructed the view with large expanses of glass. The house was also made much more energy-efficient through insulation,a polyurethane 'cool roof', and solar panels. Phase two is underway, which will remodel the lower two floors.

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: This small 1926 home by noted architect John Byers had beautiful details at the front of the house, but suffered from a cramped kitchen and an attached garage that cut the house off from the back yard. A new detached garage was built at the rear of the lot and 1,163 square feet were added to the house in the form of a larger kitchen opening onto a new family room, and a new master suite above. Original details were matched throughout the house. Tilework was custom-designed by the architect using…

  - Location: Beverly Hills, CA

  - Description: This 20’s Spanish home was run-down, but had great details such as frescoed ceilings and carved woodwork. The existing home was completely restored and 1,161 square feet were added in a matching style. The entire property was re-landscaped, and a new pool house was built adjacent to the new pool.

  - Location: Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
  - Photos: 12
  - Description: This house was originally a cramped, ugly house from the 50's situated on a beautiful 1.4 acre lot with views of San Pedro Harbor and the ocean. It was not clear where the entry of this house was, and people often knocked on the laundry room door. We added around 800 square feet to the house, and completely reconfigured it to take advantage of the views and the landscape. And now you can find the front door. Landscape by Schwentker Watts Design.
- [Lausanne Road](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/lausanne-road-pj-vj~1350813)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This house was built in1938 by Paul Williams, a very significant architect; however the property had fallen into disrepair. Little square footage was added, but the entire house was restored in the regency style appropriate to the original design. The kitchen was originally one of several smaller rooms designed for staff. This was converted into a large kitchen with a level of detail matching the rest of the house. The master suite was also extensively remodeled.
- [Esther Avenue](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/esther-avenue-pj-vj~1350655)
  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: A master suite was added onto the back and side of this small 50’s bungalow, and the interior layout was dramatically altered. Originally upon entering the house one faced a blank wall and had to walk through the living room to enter the family room (a previous addition). The dated kitchen was isolated in its own room. The house had little connection to the outdoors. In this remodel the kitchen was flipped to the other side of the house and opened to the family room. Now when entering the house…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Thank you! Beautiful kitchen! What is the paint color on the cabinets?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Sorry, I think we picked that color on the fly; it's not in my records. But it was 11 years ago...

**Q: Name of the cabinets, tile and counter top?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The cabinets were custom-designed by me. The counters are 'Roman Travertine', and the tile is 'Dakota' in the 4 Seasons line by Gainey. Hope that helps!
