> We have used Simply Stone on many kitchen and bath projects for granite countertops. Their sales people treat our clients very well and are very helpful in the process. The installers are excellent! Very precise in their work and want the job to look great when they are finished with the installation. There was one instance where the installer noticed a very minor scratch, to the point of you had to look at it from a certain angle with the light just right, to notice it. The installer tried his best to buff out the spot and still was not happy with the results. He did not hesitate and took the top back to the shop and had it fixed. Most companies would have left it as is and hope no one picked up on the scratch. That is the kind of top service Simply Stone provides.

> Can't say enough about the experience we had - it was outstanding. We had our entire kitchen redone including cabinets, counter tops and flooring. The design was perfect, the service was impeccable and the people were amazing.  We visited other companies in the Carroll County area who claimed to be able to handle our job. But there always seemed to be something missing. And we were tired of high pressure sales tactics and sales people who didn't really listen. Simply Stone ended up being our last stop. **Q: Brick Fireplace Help - w/ pictures** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi all! I have a brick fireplace I would like to look more modern. Our style is clean lines & contemporary. Any ideas on how to upgrade this? White paint - is that too country? Dark grey paint - will it make the room too dark? Stone - how does one do this in an affordable way?

A: Here is a before and after using lightweight concrete wall panels.  These panels are designed to be easily installed by any DIY'er and can be colored anything you want.  You can purchase concrete stain and do as much or as little coloring as you want and the coloring can be changed at any time.

**Q: Please, need help with our tiny kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We recently purchased an older, smaller, house and have a very limited budget for remodeling.  We haven't moved in yet, but would like a kitchen facelift to be one of our first projects.  I like the cupboards. They appear to be oak, and are in very good condition.  The floor is the original maple hardwood and is also in good condition.  The stove is old and we will be replacing it with a gas range.  Should we go with stainless steel?  That would probably mean replacing the refrigerator since it is white and we would want them to match, right? Or would white appliances look better because of the small space?  There isn't a lot of counter or storage space for a microwave; should we consider installing an over the range microwave?  (it would not vent outside).  Also, I would love to replace the countertop, but that may not be in the budget this time around.   I am not good at decorating, and have a very difficult time visualizing what a finished project will look like.   I would sincerely appreciate any facelift suggestions - wall color, backsplash, cabinet hardware, window treatment, appliances, etc.., even suggestions for a new countertop.  I have included several photos for reference.  Thank you fellow Houzzers!

A: If you do want to replace your countertops with granite or quartz go to a local fabricator that does their own work.  They will have remnant pieces large enough for your kitchen.  This will save you money and you should be able to get a really nice exotic granite installed for $1500 or less.  If you catch them when they are slow you should be able to talk them down to $1000-$1200.
If you do decide to replace your countertop with granite I suggest picking out the granite before you decide any other colors.  Its a whole lot easier to match paint and fabric colors to granite than to find granite (especially remnant pieces) to match a pre decided color scheme.
