In addition, the shape of the yard provided an interesting dynamic. I was able to create a three tier system with a walking path on top and a dry creek bed to connect the various elements. The pictures show a work in progress as the plants haven't been installed fully, but they were all chosen to be able to thrive in low water areas. - [Cozy Cottage Garden](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/cozy-cottage-garden-pj-vj~7075886) - Location: Salt Lake City, UT - Photos: 10 - Description: The homeowner for this project had limited mobility, so ease of access as well as maintenance was paramount in this design. Different areas were kept open and wide and the plants were chosen by their hardiness as well as beauty. I was able to use existing beds for the most part so the installation was also not difficult. - [Calming Traditional Design](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/calming-traditional-design-pj-vj~7074946) - Location: Cottonwood Heights, UT - Photos: 20 - Description: This project was already a well established yard and the homeowner did not want major alterations. But it was rather chaotic and disjointed. I was able to rearrange several of the plants currently in place as well as incorporate new ones into the already existing beds so the installation was not overly expensive or time consuming. The end product was much more unified and calming to look at as well as spend time in. - [Luxury Family Deck](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/luxury-family-deck-pj-vj~7075892) - Location: Herriman, UT - Photos: 10 - Description: The goal of this design was to make a seamless extension to the house that felt like just another great room to be in. It also needed to flow into the existing hardscaping. The location of the doors provided a bit of a challenge, but thinking a little outside the normal shape of a deck solved that. You can't even tell that the roofline had to be extended. - [Low Maintenance English Garden](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/low-maintenance-english-garden-pj-vj~7075890) - Location: Saratoga Springs, UT - Photos: 10 - Description: This design was especially fun. The steep slope to the fairly narrow backyard provided a bit of challenge since the owner needed to keep it as easy to access as possible. My favorite part was the side yard where we were able to put in a 'secret garden' that is both soothing to be in as well as easy to maintain. - [Mountain Meadow Garden](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mountain-meadow-garden-pj-vj~7075894) - Location: Cottonwood Heights, UT - Photos: 10 - Description: The owner loved the views on this property and wanted to take full advantage of them. A massive slope that leads directly into the house is always a challenge, but I was able to incorporate many paths and retaining walls to direct any runoff properly. The paths also allow access to the many smaller gardens on the different terraces for easy harvesting. - [Natural Rock Garden](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/natural-rock-garden-pj-vj~7075899) - Location: Bountiful, UT - Photos: 10 - Description: I love how this project turned out. The back yard was insanely steep and the owner was planning on doing all the work alone. So, I had to design a space that didn't require heavy machinery. Plus weeds had nearly overtaken the entire space. Now it is a beautiful area that also is fairly easy to access and maintain. - [Contemporary Craftsman Design](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/contemporary-craftsman-design-pj-vj~6844568) - Location: South Jordan, UT - Photos: 14 - Description: The architecture of this property was very unique and the owner wanted to extend that to the landscape. So, I was able to blend modern with craftsman. Hence the straight lines and sharp corners, but softened by the plant choice and location. Low maintenance was also a priority. - [Fun Family Traditional Design](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/fun-family-traditional-design-pj-vj~5327610) - Location: South Jordan, UT - Photos: 16 - Description: The owner wanted to keep things fairly straightforward but still have tons of space to entertain. The goal was to make it as function as possible so there are several sitting areas as well as spaces for play and just socializing. I was able to get a few before pictures on this one as well to show the transformation. - [Mountain Charm](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/mountain-charm-pj-vj~6033645) - Location: Salt Lake City, UT - Photos: 8 - Description: This property had an established landscape but it was in need of repair and revitalizing. Many of the plants were also succumbing to disease. I was able to reuse much of the existing area while renewing the spaces with proper care and plant choice. Another goal to was limit the noise from the surrounding area. - [Contemporary Design 2](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/contemporary-design-2-pj-vj~6540293) - Location: Provo, UT - Photos: 13 - Description: The owner wanted a minimalist modern design, but the shape of the property made that rather difficult. I was still able to create a unique space while accounting for the less than ideal slope and shape of the yard. I also need to not change any of the slope and utilize much of the existing plants and hardscaping. The owner wanted an inviting area to entertain neighbors and friends. I was able to squeeze in a courtyard as well a few other small seating areas. Space was a little tight, but the finished product is not cluttered in any way. This did prove challenging since their was a marked slope throughout the lawn. I was able to use strategic retaining walls to keep the wide areas as flat as possible. This allowed for good sightlines to watch children. In addition, water conservation was a must. On top of that, i was tasked with making it more modern than usual.
