**Q: Does anybody know where to find a rug similar to this one?color combin** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: Whatever kind of rug you get -- pull it out from under the couches. There is not enough of the rug exposed. Rug's pretty colorful and the round detail is never going to line up correctly. Consider putting this rug under your table and maybe no rug under the couches. This way you balance out the colors better in the room. The wall art provides enough color for this area. Also the floor lamp is a little skimpy for the bulky furniture.

**Q: Kitchen Reno - Peninsula or No?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I currently have a small, L shaped kitchen that we will be renovating.  The biggest issue with my kitchen is that the stove is directly beside the sink and will definitely need to be moved.  I've been playing around with different designs and was thinking about changing the kitchen layout to be a line against the back wall and a peninsula instead of an L with an island.  My concern is that it would mean you would have to walk all the way around the peninsula to get 'in' to the kitchen area.  I'd be ok with it but I'm not sure if it would be bad for resale in the future.
I've attached some pictures of the current layout and the layout I was playing with.  I'd love to hear your opinions!  The first two are the current layout (not exact, but close enough), the last two are the peninsula design.

A: Reconsider the placement of the stove/oven next to the refrigerator. These two appliances work at cross purposes. Although both are probably well insulated it's still not a good idea - it also looks dumb, although I see it in a lot of floor plans. Maybe put a small cabinet in between or move the fridge to the opposite end near the wall. The two cabinet jutting out of the island are also not terribly attractive and should be flush with the rest of the island. Can they open on the "Kitchen" side?

**Q: Gallery wall or a silver framed mirror over buffet table** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I recently bought a beautiful silver framed mirror to hang over the buffet table..but i also like the gallery wall over it...i am unable to decide what will look better...any suggestions?

A: Your gallery wall pics are hung a little too high for the cabinet underneath. Either lower the pics or get a higher cabinet. As for the mirror -- hanging it depends on what is being reflected. Consider the scale of the mirror may also be too large for the cabinet.

**Q: kitchen slider - valance or what?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Please help pick valance or what and what color?  I'm terrible at decorating and worse with color.  Kitchen ceramic tile is beige with tint of yellow, walls same.  We need vertical blinds and a valance or what for the kitchen slider.  Any advice so appreciated.  We now have a glass top table with dark bronze chairs with beige seats in front of the slider.  Eventually going to remove carpet in living area.  Just beginning with our new house and I guess going for a casual cottage/beachy type feel for FL  The whole house is this off white with a pale yellow tint color and we plan to leave it for now in the kitchen dining living areas.  I have an old set of copper cookware above the cabinets over the microwave now.  That's about it, kind of boring.  Thank you in advance.

A: No valance please. If you don't need the privacy you might want to rethink the verticals, it's a look that has gone out of fashion (for good reason). If you want to add some oomph try framing the door by adding moulding around it. Painting the frames and the breakfast bar (on the living room side) in an interesting color will go a long way toward providing some much needed style. Putting a table in front of the sliders seems a little awkward.

**Q: What do you do about a messy kid's room?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My room was always an unadulterated disaster when I was growing up. My mother chalked it up to "creative kids are messy," though she did always want me to clean up. Do you have strict rules about messy bedrooms? What do you do if the sanitation level starts to leave a little or a lot to be desired? What solutions did you have for keeping even these parts of the house tidy? 
Share your tips!

A: Show them how it's done - clean with them. Give them the tools to keep things tidy. Let them shop  with you. Involve them in the process. Small cleaning chores depending on their age. Be specific about what you want. Don't just say: Clean your room. Applaud their efforts, if they actually made an effort. No rewards for cleaning - neatness should be its own reward. STop buying all that stuff - goes for grandparents too.

**Q: one long runner or multiple runners down hallway?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have left over carpet from the bedrooms and I wanted to have then cut, bound, and made into runners down the hall. I measured out what we have and its 12 feet long in material. The hall is 20 feet long. Should I go buy more carpet and have it stitched together to make one long runner or just go with two separate runners down the hall?

A: Why runners? The hall looks very narrow so in order for the runners to look good they would have to be even more narrow than the hall in order to expose the flooring. Decorate the walls for interest and forget about the runners.
