## Community Q&A

**Q: Formal living room/playroom at my entryway??** *(in Home Decorating)*

In my dreams, I have a warm and welcoming entryway with high ceilings that flows into the home.
In my reality, I have low ceilings that lead directly into a playroom/exercise room followed by a dining area. 
For the past 5 years,  I’ve thought about what could make this area great and am left uncertain. I do think the idea was probably to have a formal living room followed by dining room table -no toys, no elliptical machine! As is, we always eat in our kitchen nook where there natural light and a view so the dining set is just for show. Or potential holidays. 
While I would love something practical but I’m sick of it being a cluttered mess! I’ve considered turning the first half into somewhat of a game room with shuffleboard and foosball but I’m sure that would make the clutter worse! 
Would love your thoughts!!

A: Dining room & living room is the answer and you need a comprehensive furnishing plan with well scaled furniture. This will absolutely solve your problem. Space is cute and has great light.

**Q: Front Door Dilemma** *(in Polls)*

What should I do with this door to update it? The rest of the house is white trim and the stairs will be too. (Ignore the deadbolt, it will be black. We are mid project)

**Q: Decorating Home Gym** *(in Home Decorating)*

I just converted my upstairs loft room to a home gym and it is looking very bland and boring. I want to add some color and interest. I want it to look luxurious and nice as it is an open space and right at the top of the stairs. Looking to add wall art, a plant, and maybe a mirror between the mirrors. Let me know what would look good and where in the room. Could the room support some sort of small console table to put waters and towels on

A: I would love to see a very dark paint color on the double window wall to start. Something to give the illusion of gym.

**Q: Paint Sheens for trim** *(in Paint)*

We are going to paint our family room and kitchen in Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace.  I am debating whether which sheens I should use.  Baseboard is presently stained.
I am thinking of painting walls and ceiling either matte or eggshell and wondering if I can paint baseboard in eggshell or do I need to step up to satin or semi-gloss?  They are presently stained.
What is the trend today?  Are trends towards less sheen.

A: Semi gloss for wood trim. Matte finishes  ake the wood look chalky and not as sophisticated.

**Q: Chrome vs. Black Hardware - Bathroom Reno** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi there, we are in the process of renovating a medium sized en suite.

The vision: standing shower with white 24x28 marble-look tiles (glass hinged door), same marble-look white floors and painted white walls... WALNUT double sink vanity with white quartz countertop... large single mirror with two vanity lights above each sink.

Doing some design research, everyone suggests black hardware, but I genuinely think it may be a little too much for the space, and partner prefers a more modern/sleek look rather than midcentury modern. 

Question: Could I get away with chrome hardware and a few matte black accents/accessories instead, or will that clash? Ie. soap and toothbrush holders, maybe a small vase somewhere, decor, a black line art paining etc.? Opinions and suggestions are welcome!
