Nathan and his team have been incredibly patient and nonjudgemental even when I know that they are not able to work as efficiently as possible- and have never once alluded to the added challenge. That level of trust is so vital, especially being out of state. If Nathan says something, or offers his opinion, you can trust it absolutely, whether is is expanding or reducing the scope of a project. Nathan has made design and material choices for us, and we have been completely happy with those choices- another way in which having him as our contractor lightens our load. > Our first project with Nathan was a couple years ago, and was quite extensive; bringing the home out of neglect and disrepair, including a new roof. This was not a glamourous job, but we received the level of care and attention to detail I would expect on a high end renovation. The cabinets have verigated dark and light striped wood. We knew hickory was activated, but these seem variegated with pattern. The provider say “we’ll hats hi kory, you never know what you’ll get!” But the display was nothing like that. What is you opinion? Thanks Brian A: Since you have the cabinets and your cabinet supplier doesn’t seem to be sympathetic, I’d talk to him about finishing the cabinets with a stain. Maybe tell him, in a nice and understanding way, that the display he showed you looked nothing like what you were delivered and while you understand that hickory is a very inconsistent wood you would really appreciate him staining the cabinets for you at no additional cost. I’d also ask for some pieces of the wood with samples of stain colors on them so you will know what to expect. This isn’t too much to ask. A stain and a clear coat will definitely help them out. Good luck! **Q: updating my living room** *(in Home Decorating)* I want to update my very large living room especially around the fireplace. I'm thinking of changing the drapes. The walls are neutral with white trim. Sofa, loveseat and chair on one side and a large TV and loveseat on the opposite side. We have a cathedral ceiling with two large brass chandeliers. A: Floor length light colored curtains will be the quickest way to brighten the space. Also, if its your fireplace you are looking to update, consider replacing the mantle with a more simple design, and white washing the stone (will need to white wash the rest of the stone in the room as well). **Q: Help with dining room design dilemma.** *(in Home Decorating)* Unsure of how to decorate this dining room based on layout with furniture. I'm referring to the basics..wall art, curtain length, area rug, etc. I lack ability to design or decorate. Note: getting navy farmhouse chairs for seating opposite bench seating. A: Consider removing the tables in the corners, and possibly replacing with corner shelves. I would do wall decor on the big wall behind the bench. The fixture you currently have is more pub style, a bigger, lower hanging chandelier will compliment the table and bench and give more of a dining room vibe. Before I had a full wall mirror over the vanity which was removed during the remodel. I have aligned the double sinks on one wall with a middle drawer unit for some piece of art. I have allotted for 4 sconces over the 98" vanity. Would you do the two mirrors over each sink and fill the space in between with art? Would you place 3 separate pieces of mirror and place a sculpture in between? If the separate mirrors, how high would you go? Am I limited in height by the door trim on the same wall? Would you place a full mirror with cut out for sconces? A: Double mirrors with low profile frames, and sconces to the top outsides, possibly one in center-top. **Q: feedback on kitchen design** *(in Appliances)* here is our latest kitchen design. (I know the cabinets adjacent to the range/oven are not usable but for those appliance dimensions, we can't come up with anything better.) the designer hasn't yet put this into 2020 so it's just a sketch for now. will this be a nice and functional kitchen? A: A lot of times kitchen designs are very dependant on the footprint of the area you have to work with and what you need to make it function for your family. This looks to me like you are doing just that. I definitely like the smaller range, that’s a good decision. The only two recommendations I have is to turn the island in line with the sink base cabinets and make it rectangular. Keep walking space around the island in mind, it looks like you already are. Secondly, I’d remove the steam oven and limit the island to a microwave cubby, double trash pull out, and drawer stacks.
